The Best Laid Plans..........

You have all heard that quote - the best laid plans of mice and men.....
Sure seems to be true some days!

My goodness, I had all kinds of plans for the last half of my week.  Grocery store on Wednesday morning to do a good stock up on odds and ends.  A trip to Menard's - for all kinds of house stuff on Thursday as well as stopping at Meijer (across the road from Menard's).
The world had other plans!!!!

Got up and ready to leave early on Wed. for grocery and my Blazer wouldn't start.  Now I know myself, it wasn't the battery - it tried to start.  It wasn't out of gas - had plenty.  I cracked the hood and looked around and checked oil and antifreeze, etc. and checked connections.    That is about my expert limit!!  LOL

Looked over fence and neighbor was sitting outside - so I yelled over the fence - he came to look.  Well, the 2 main things he could think of required changing out 2 parts.  We went and got them and he put them on and NOPE no start.  At least they are now replaced and new (they were original 2002)  - so should last for continued years.  We got a work manual for my vehicle and it said to do all he had done.  This went on for many hours!  UGH!!  Poor guy.

                                                             Nope not mine - LOL!

All the while he was working on things and trouble shooting I tried to stay busy ad keep out of the way.  I did a ton of cleaning and straightening in the garage - made a tremendous pile of trash.  Moved my old gas grill and it came apart!!!!  (I haven't used in prob. 3 yrs.)
Cleaned out the back end of Blazer - I have a plastic milk crate with oil, wiper fluid, jumper cables, antifreeze, etc.   Went to move it - and it crumbles into a million pieces!!  Sigh!
Found another and got stuff transferred and cleaned up the mess of the old one.
Set down in the chair I have outside the garage and the seat split!
Standing on cement all day and my back was killing me.
Geesh - what a day!
A real comedy of errors.  Some days you just have to laugh.
I am just thankful I was at home when this happened.

Finally had to break down and call AAA for a tow to repair shop.  Neighbor took me up there so we could tell them what all had been done.  He uses this place and they know him.
They gave me a sort of decent 'guess-timate' which wasn't bad - but said they wouldn't get to it till at least Monday.
Funny, I rarely go any where, maybe leave one day a week - but someone telling you you can't - changes it up!!!!!!!  Hate the thought of not having a car - just in case.
Neighbor offered to let me ride to WM super store (cringe) with him this morning.  I guess I will go - even though I don't like WM. (need to look for canned cat food).

Got a call - they were already looking at it and it may be much simpler than we all thought.  The shop  thought they knew the problem and it takes a computer thingy to measure whatever - after installing the new doohickey.
How is that for technical???!!!!!
Fingers crossed it is the easy fix and MAYBE I will get it back today or tomorrow!

My best laid plans sure went to heck!!!!!!!!!!!!
Such is life here in the big city!!

Some days the universe wins!  That is OK too.
New day - new beginnings.
This my friends is why we are frugal - you never know what may happen.

LAUGH - it makes things better
Have a great day!!!!!!

  1. So sorry you're having to deal with this. It is those kinds of days that make me miss my handyman even more, and I give thanks for all that he did for me. But, you did learn a lot during that time in the garage -- about the things that have been neglected too long and needed your attention. Look at what you accomplished in just a couple of hours!!!! Smile, and make it a great day. The sun is shining here (though it's really cold). Go out an conquer!

    1. You betcha! My sweet G was a mechanic to boot - so he knew everything about the vehicles. I learned a little along the way. Yes indeed, everyday is a day of missing, but some are more than others.
I guess things breaking is just part of life. We deal.
I did get a lot done and saw so much more to do - so I was accomplished! The Blazer will be in good order and that makes me happy too.
It is shining here as well although chilly - it is a good day!

  2. Ugh! If it can go wrong it will go wrong at the worst possible moment is what my Dad always used to say. I know what you mean about now having the car in the driveway. We are the same. I hope it is inexpensive and is done soon!

    1. Murphey's Law - something to it!
I am glad it happened here - so it could have been much worse. They have called and already started working on it, so that is wonderful.
I just wanted to go out - no real pressing needs. I am good.

  3. It sounds like you have some good neighbours. My first reaction would have been to call the garage and have the car towed.

At least the garage got some clearing out. :)

  5. Way back when we were homeschooling, I was supposed to take my children on a field trip but our van wouldn’t start. It wasn’t a big problem and my husband fixed it when he got home from work.
So on Saturday, we drove as a family to Woolaroc, where the homeschool group met on the day my van wouldn’t start.
The drive up there was much longer and many more winding roads than I knew about and I would of been nervous and miserable if I’d driven my children all by myself.
We had a great time as a family on the trip and I was so thankful I did not drive.
Car trouble is never fun but I’m not aggravated by it and I wonder if God just has a better plan me anyway

Hope your trouble is no big deal.

    1. Exactly what I was thinking. What MIGHT have happened had I went out yesterday? Who knows. Part of the plan.
Glad you got through that with no problems. I can't imagine having a carload of kids and something going wrong.
It is getting fixed and that will be another part that is good to go for the duration. I'm ok!

  6. I have a Subaru Outback and a GMC Sierra truck. Truck has several problems caused by squirrels or rats chewing on the wiring. It is still in the shop. Hate to think of selling it because I like to have a truck for the times I need to haul something. My friend has a 2002 Jimmy that he bought new.

    1. Oh no - that is awful. All my critters and (knock wood) never had a problem like that!
I know things happen - we just get frustrated when they do.
Trucks are nice - I got rid of my last one too.
      Somedays I miss it.

  7. What a day! Seems some days we are the windshield, other days we are the bug! You definitely had a bug day! So sorry! But I agree, God had other plans. It may have kept you from some bad things. You are blessed with good neighbors, good attitude and a great sense of humor.
Perhaps this applies..as I often say, it makes you appreciate the good days more! Wishing you many more good ones!

I am blessed beyond measure. I have to laugh about it, it makes it easier to get through it.
Should get it back Friday - they called and said it is fixed and I asked them to change the oil too - so I will be all good.
Those good ones are gifts, and honestly there are more of them than bad!

  9. A computer thingy after installing the doohickey? Ha Ha still laughing at that one. You have a very nice neighbor who took the time to help you even if he couldn't fix it. Hopefully by now it's all fixed and you have your blazer back. When something like that happens we always say God just did not want us to go out that day and he made sure we didn't by keeping us home. He always knows what's best for us.

Yes indeed, God had other plans, so I have to say thank you to Him - who knows what the day might have brought.

  11. Cars are a necessary evil! Happy for you that it was an easy fix. It's nice to have a mechanic you can trust (and a good neighbor willing to help out). You've heard the old joke: Man makes plans, God laughs. Look at all you accomplished, tho, while waiting!

    1. You are so right. Got to have my vehicle - lost without it.
Funny how I never thought about a mechanic in years past - as hubby was one - now I am glad to someone to trust.
Yes indeed, God had different plans.

  12. I know it was a frustrating situation for you, but I had to laugh at your continuous comedy of errors...seems like everything you touched fell apart!! haha. You are a good writer! Sounds like you have an incredible neighbor---he must be retired to have been home. I don't have anyone like that on my street. Just call AAA!

Hope your car is back and now you can plan another day for all your errands! Did you find the cat food at wally world?

  13. I had to laugh when your chair seat split ;p. Hope you didn't get hurt when it did that. Guess you didn't need that gas grill anyway, right? ;-). Hopefully, the repair will be easier than first thought and cost less to do.
Praise God, you found canned cat food at Wally Weird! =^.^=
Glad you could laugh and not get all bent outta shape.
    Take care,

    1. Hey, I laughed too. You sometimes either laugh or you cry. Crying helps nothing.
I got it back yesterday afternoon and less than I figured!!
I was thrilled to find the cat food. I will remember to go back there in the future.
      Thanks!

Goodness you sound like you had a day like I"m having today. This morning wasn't bad but this afternoon? Whatever I tried to do just went sideways!!..I do hope your car is an easy and not too expensive fix. I also do not like the idea of not having a car at the ready it makes me feel like Im trapped...
