Living with Purpose

Stay at home moms, home makers, retired, widows, whatever the situation - we often question ourselves and our lives.  What am I accomplishing?  Why?  How am I making a difference?  I feel pretty confident that most everyone has asked these questions and had these feelings.  It is NORMAL - really!
We need to live our lives with purpose - it doesn't have to be anything drastic or huge - just simple purpose each day.  That will make each day a value to YOU.  You are already a value to others.

Use each day for some good.  Helping others, being kind, a soft word, a lovely smile, a joke, caring for children or others.  We need a purpose each day.  For years I had a purpose - to take care of my husband who was disabled.  When he passed - I was lost.  What was my purpose?  I am a work in progress on this.  I take care of animals - they depend on me.  I write and try to help others.  I do what I can for neighbors and family.  Little things!  I know there is more to accomplish - but each day has purpose.

Set a goal and work at it.  Quit finding distractions.  Turn off the TV, put down the phone and the computer.  Media is our biggest downfall - it is a rabbit hole!!!!!!  Take a walk, actually TALK to someone, get fresh air and sunshine (even in the cold), clean a drawer or closet, fill a box with discards, educate yourself and your mind - just do something each day.

Make your home pleasant.  Doesn't have to cost anything.  Move things around.  Use a pretty tablecloth.  Let in fresh air and sunshine.  Get a bouquet of flowers for yourself!  Light a favorite scented candle.  Change pillows, bedding, etc.

We often keep busy because of habits.  Our day can be over, and we wonder what did I do?  Well, we get in a rut of doing the same things every day - and often that is just what they are - THINGS!  We get used to our days being the same.  Same old routine every single day!  It is time to jazz it up a bit.  I read about some people (w/no kids) who CLEAN every day - how did it get dirty over night??  Seriously.  It is a habit.  Not that cleaning is a negative habit - but it can be a habit that just uses your time.  Step outside the comfort zone and do something different!

Get fresh air and sunshine every day!  I am outside every single day of the year at least 4 - 5 times.  Doesn't matter the weather.  I do believe there is much to be said about fresh air and sun.  It really does help keep one healthy and active.

Give thanks every morning - first thing.  Give thanks every evening - last thing.   Whether you pray, meditate, have affirmations, whatever you do - do it consistently.  Whatever you believe in, is your business - I just think that placing those thankful moments out into the world makes it a better place.  I believe our thoughts and gestures DO affect the universe.  It can't hurt!!!  BE THANKFUL.

Be grateful for everything every day!!!!!!!  No matter how big or small it is.  Don't be envious of others.
Have humility in all you do.  Be humble in knowing that you are just a fleck of dust in this big old universe - AND you ARE here!!!!!!!  Isn't that something?  The world needs one of you!
No matter what our situation is - we are here for a reason.
We have all gone through our own WORST days and yet here we are.  We survived them.

Life has kicked us in the britches, it has knocked us down, it has disappointed, it has made us cry AND it has been wonderous, beautiful and full of laughter and joy!  It sure is a mixed bag of emotions and events.  They are all important.

So I say we all need to challenge ourselves each day.  Expand your mind.  Open your heart.  Step outside the box.  Make each day the BEST it can possibly be.  This is something that each and every one of us needs to do.  I know I do.
LIVE WITH PURPOSE!!!!!!

  1. I try to be grateful for everything- big and small- everyday. Some days I am better at it then I am at other times. I do try to be kind and do unexpected things for others. You never know how something small will make a big impact on someone's life. Hugs- Diana

    1. You are so right. I think we are an extension of God and our actions represent Him. A kind word could save a life today. A smile could be the only kindness someone sees today. Little things are big things.
      Bless you!

  2. Ohh Cheryl, you are in the same spot I am... THIS is EXACTLY what I am trying to do now every day... Slow down and LIVE and doesn't have to be something HUGE... For years I wondered what my purpose is.. Afterall, I am disabled, I can't do a lot so what is my real purpose and then I realized, for how much my physical condition stops me I am here to care for others. I am at my best when I have someone or something to care for..

My purpose is to help my husband, be his wife, his care taker, his friend.. To make our home a warm, inviting, safe place full of love.

To care for the animals entrusted to me...and yes, to be grateful for all we have even though we are lacking in some major needs we still have A LOT more than some and for this I am eternally grateful..

    Wonderful post!

    1. Thank you so much for your testimonial!!!! I love when others share their stories, because we all learn.
It takes time to figure out purpose and I guess maybe some never do.
Your life with your husband and home sounds wonderful. You are doing what makes you happy and what you are SUPPOSED to be doing right now.
I have found my purpose has changed - and I am dealing with that. BUT caring and nurturing will always be a big part of my life.
I love you say "we still have a LOT more than some". Isn't that the truth? We may be poor to some - but we are 'rich' to others. Life is all about perspective and what we do with it!
      Thank you and continued blessings.

    1. So happy you have found your way here.
I became widowed In Apr. 2019 after 33 years together. It was not expected, so it was quite a shock. I am slowly finding my way.
I used to do a lot of genealogy work and need to get back into it. Good for you on keeping busy. That is fantastic. Sounds like you have a lot of interests.
Hope you stick around. We enjoy having new folks teach us new things!
      Have a great week

  4. What timing! I'd been up all night for no particular reason other than general insomnia. It happens. But at my age, lack of sleep can truly effect my perspective of things. Just before dawn I read this blog post and then slept 5-1/2 hours! Peace can be elusive these days. So, thank you, Cheryl. You are a true blessing. SO glad I found your blog. --Elise

  5. Another excellent post and conversation! I try to be mindful and kind when interacting with others. It seems there is always someone or a situation that needs prayer. Many times a kind word or smile can make a big difference in a person's day and we are unaware of it. I hope Miss Sylvia sticks around. This is a good place to be!

  7. About the time that Covid started to become anti-whatever, I had decided that I had had enough of the negativity and name calling. Thus each day I do a Facebook post talking about my walk, add a quote on something (I have done hope, love, courage, compassion, joy and am now doing contentment) and tell my friends how that quote speaks to me. I never realized how many people on my friends list just waited to read what I had to say. Humbling to say the least as I even have people stop me on the street to say thanks.

We all need to reach out more, to be content, and to enjoy this day to day life we are undergoing right now.

    God bless.

    1. Love it. Good for you for spreading the joy and beauty and love life has to give.
Pretty much the main reason I stay away from politics and health related issues (current issues). I want things to be positive and I want people to have a peaceful place to go every day.
We each need to do our own little bit - it can change things!!! Thank you!!
      Blessings

  10. I think sometimes we put our lives on hold waiting for something big to happen. Maybe something big isn't going to happen. Maybe this is it. Enjoy the little things and appreciate all of life's little moments. And the big ones too, when they happen. Time goes by too fast, so stop waiting for something big to happen and just live each day, and enjoy each day, and what that day has to offer. And be grateful. Always grateful.

    1. Absolutely! Great advice and words. Life itself is a pretty BIG thing - so it should be enjoyed each day. Those little things just may be the big things. A hug, a smile a kind word - can be pretty special.

  11. Beautiful. Soup simmering, sweet music etc. A great day...Reaching out to others when possible even simply with life giving words written or said. Spending time with the Lord hearing His voice.

So many running around and not noticing the blessings before them, contentment is a Gift and we can make that Gift happen if we sit still, not compare and just notice our blessings.

    1. YES mam! Every moment of every day is a gift and should be enough.
There is so much commotion in the world and in people's lives they forget to just be still.
Listening and paying attention is so important. God speaks to us always.
