Thursday Random Thoughts & Tips

Another day to ramble.  Some days I have nothing particular on my mind - just random thoughts.  Here are a few things - as my mind just roams around!!

Pretties from the yard.  Pretty yesterday and pretty today - who knows after that.  So very windy and rainy and after tonight we have 2 or 3 nights of below freezing.   Eeeeerrrrr!  Happens every spring.  I will cover the daffodils - hoping to save them!

You know I add water to dish soap and shampoo.  This is blue Dawn and water mixed with a little vinegar.  Vinegar helps cut grease and adds sparkle.  The vinegar sure turns that Dawn a pretty color!

'Gnome' is where the heart is!!!!  My garden flag at the moment.  I have to admit - when I make a trip to the garden center/feed store I have to get a new flag each time.  I love them!  They just say happy and hello!

I got these a month or so ago at Big Lots for 2.99 for a really big bag.  I love cheesy puffs and these sounded yummy.  Well, they are pretty darn warm for my palette.  Soooo, not being one to waste things, I have ground them up into a powder and I add a bit to mac and cheese or as a topping on casserole or as an add-on on pizza.  It gives just a taste of the jalapeno flavor and tiny bit of zip, but not too hot.  There is always a way to re-use things in a new way!

Some of my dry storage for the kitchen.  It keep some often used items handy and it looks pretty as well.  I love all the old jars - and they sure are useful.  Found that little cabinet at a yard sale several years back - it just said 'buy me'!

Through my door.  Momma and Fluffy sunning and sending you all kisses for a wonderful weekend!

Have a nice and lovely day!

  1. Clever with the cheese puffs. I like your cupboard with the old jars. You would think that with the nice fur coats the cats would prefer shade; I guess every creature craves that rejuvenating spring sunshine! Nothing poking through the snow in my neck of the woods. Soon though.

    1. Thanks.
I think we all need our Vit. D. The kitties sure do love the sunshine when they can get - especially in the spring. Now summer, when it gets so hot - they will find shade.
Soon!!! Spring is on the way!

  2. Thank you for the tips today, Cheryl. I love your vintage jar display... artistic and practical! So much nicer than washed out plastic peanut butter jars. LOL! Beautiful kitties, too. --Elise

  4. Excellent way to use the just too hot cheese puffs. Turn it into seasoning! Cute picture of the kitties enjoying the sun. We just got back from the Urban Farmer's eye appointment in Carmel and that wind is really sharp. Pretty flowers! My daffies are up but we don't have any forsythia. It is always so pretty in the spring.

    2. You would be proud of me. I opened a can of peas dated 2016 and served them for lunch. They were actually very good. I will use the rest in the chicken dog food.

  5. Oh, I love your little cabinet. I have my (few) jars on display on the kitchen cupboard and a few smaller ones hidden in the pantry cupboard.

Love the photos of the cats too! Enjoy the sun.

No sun today - just biting wind. Looking forward to sun again soon.

  7. Repurposing always helps stretch things. A couple that I do almost as routine, add 1 Tbsp of vinegar or lemon juice to 1 c. of milk and let it sit for about 10 minutes = ready-made buttermilk for your pancakes, biscuits, or (for me) Irish Soda Bread. Those last few crackers in the box get crushed and added to my container of bread crumbs -- saltines, Ritz, wheat thins, anything but Triscuits. They don't work as well. I also re-use prescription bottles for holding valuables in my home safe. Bills roll nicely for storage and change can be sorted for storing in an appropriate sized bottle. NOTE: I don't keep a ton of change on hand, but like to have a small amount, just in case -- one regular-sized bottle of each? Plus, if I have any collectable coins, they go in a separate bottle. Jewelry can also be stored in those bottles. They save so much space that way.

    1. I have made much buttermilk that way. Sure always grind the crackers into crumbs. Works good for cookies or cereal as well - good on ice cream or pudding.

What wonderful ideas for pill bottles. Some of those are new to me. Smart thinking. Good camouflage as well!!!!
      Thanks

Love the flowers!! Our bulbs are still very short so we don't have anything blooming just yet. What are the tall yellow flowers?

I have garden flags I change every month or so. I suppose it's time to take my rainbow pot of gold down and put my tulips up.

Since we're this and thating, I'll tell you that I'm reading a book called A Square Meal. It's about food in America between the world wars. Very interesting. I so wish my MIL was around so I could ask questions. She was born in 1920 so she'd remember the depression and such. Alas, she passed a couple of years ago, just shy of 100. Our greatest generation sure saw a lot!

We're planning to do some yard work this weekend. We never got around to cleaning the outside windows and screens so that really needs doing! I like little signs and yard art so I have painting to do. I can't wait to put my new to us garage sale cushions on the patio furniture. I still can't believe the woman gave them to us for free! Gotta love the last hours of a garage sale!! Not only are they in great condition, it's a pattern I would've chosen!!

    Well, I'll see you Sunday!!

    1. The other flowers are from the forsythia bush.
The flags just brighten up a house. I love yard art as well!

Book sounds interesting. Yes, out greatest generation sure did go through and experience a lot. I bet we lost more common sense with them than what is left of this earth!!!!
Cool on the free cushions. My favorite kind of thing!

    Stay well, Mary
