Donning the Public Service Hat Today!

Just a couple reminders today.  My PSA for the week!

Well, it is that stinking time of the year that many of us have to change our clocks!!!!  Grrr - UGH! Yes, I hate changing the clocks.  To those in charge - LEAVE THEM ALONE!!!!!!!!
Make sure you fall back on the clocks this weekend.  Best to take care of the clocks before heading to bed on Saturday night.
I hate when the changes happen.  It not only takes me time to get used to the change - but animals don't look at clocks and they are all on the same old schedule.  Their inner clocks don't change (neither does mine).  This goes for farm animals to pets.  I realize back in the day they had a reason for this - today it truly serves no GOOD purpose.
Yeah thinking that adding an hour of daylight on to the beginning of day and taking one from the end makes a difference is just illogical!  IMO
                                                                        (not my picture)

Item #2
Heads up in case you aren't aware.  The price of stamps increases again on January 22, 2023. They will go up to .63 each.  Now is the time to stock up on Forever stamps at the lower price.  You can get holiday stamps, flag and different designs.
I know we all moan and groan about the increase - but it is still a bargain to be able to send a letter or card across the country, in a few days for the price!

Item#3
Just a reminder that open healthcare enrollment is now upon us.  You can sign up or makes changes for the 2023 year - now through December 15, in the U.S.  Make sure you make changes or sign up now to avoid any penalties and save dollars (hopefully).

Life happens, things happen, and we have to adjust.  We wake up each morning and go on.......that is what we need to do.  You can adjust and restart as many times as needed.
Some days are harder than others - but all days God gives are gifts.
I hope you all stay well and make the best of each day.
(Clarye hope you are doing well).

Have a good one!!!!!

  1. My Grandparents used to stay up until 2 AM to change their clocks and no one could convince them that they could just do it before going to bed Saturday night. I completed my health insurance sign up yesterday and got much better insurance for 2023 so take a look around before you just sign up for the same thing you have now. Thanks for the reminder about the stamp increase. I think we will pick another roll next time we ae at the P.O.

    Happy Wednesday!

    1. That is funny on your grandparents. Glad you got a better rate!
I will be getting another 100 soon.

  2. Yup, leave the time alone! As a child I remember daylight savings time and then for a few years we didn't have it. Now we have it again. Ugh!

We stay with the Insurance provider we have had for several years. You can't answer your phone or go to the mailbox without companies screaming " pick me, pick me!". The Farmer had the news on this morning and the political ads were thick. Such a lovely way to start your day. Not!

I think I will buy stamps the next time we are at Costco. We don't mail a lot these days so those stamps will last a good long while.

    1. I have been with the same provider for about 3 years now. Yep, I get tons of stuff every day in the mail.
I am over the political ads - all over TV - doesn't have to be news.
I usually enjoy the morning news - but you are right - enough is enough. Funny they think that will sway people.

  3. A stamp is 95p here (for first class) and out clocks altered last weekend and yes, I am struggling with it, I do every year.

    1. Oh gosh, you are ahead of us on changing the clock. It always takes a while to get used to it.

    2. Cheryl,We can’t even stock up on stamps as they will be changing since the Queen’s death.
Every week our fuel prices are going up. £1.87 per litre now.
One USA gallon is 3.79 approx litre so $7.087 per gallon (ouch)
      Less going out now.

    3. Seriously - you can't use the older stamps, when they change to new ones? That is crazy. Oh my that is expensive. I don't go out that much - but would sure curb it even more if I had to pay that!

    4. We can use older stamps, however the regular, everyday ones that just show the queen's head and say 1st or 2nd (class) need to be exchanged for barcoded ones. The special edition, picture ones are still good to use, no matter how old they are.

    5. Well, I learned something new today. Thanks for explaining

  4. It's funny. 1hour and my body adjusts instantly. Traveling 2 time zones for 2 hours? Not at all!

  5. Add me to the time change haters! No matter which way it goes, it takes me a full week to adjust. If I might add to the PSA lol, check your smoke and carbon monoxide detector batteries!

Yes, I must stock up on stamps! I'm a relic that still sends cards. I agree about the price. The only time I really feel the increase is when I buy my Christmas stamps.

I checked the ads this morning and it looks like I'll only need milk and bananas. I can get those at the dairy. Everything else was junk. Sodas, frozen pizza, cakes, etc. Aldi had Butterball turkeys for $1.07 lb. but by the time I can get there, they'll be gone. I'll have hubs check on Monday night. They might get more then. We're getting low on eggs so I was hoping for those. I think we can hold out another week and then do our monthly Trader Joe's run.

    1. I meant to post that about checking batteries and furnace filters too. Thanks
I mail about everything. I mail lots of cards at holidays and I still write checks and mail my bills.
I saw the $1.07 lb. for Butterball too. Not a bad price. Gee, aren't you the positive one!!!!! LOL You may get one!
      Betterto check than not.

  6. No Daylight Savings in AZ. Yipee!! But I feel ya! Thanks for the heads' up on everything, Cheryl. We'll have to stock up on stamps. We're heading our soon for Senior Day at Safeway. BTW, there's an unadvertised digital coupon for 39 cent per pound bananas.

Good luck shopping - find lots of bargains. Good deal on bananas!

    2. I did find some good bargains. There was a limit of 6, but O Organics frozen veggies, shelf price of $3.49 per bag (!!!) had a digital coupon of $1.49 each. No signage in store. Land O' Lakes whipped butter at $2.99 per tub was less than a smaller tub of Country Crock margarine. And I found marked down pork (2 pkgs.). We also spoke to a knowledgeable employee at Cal Ranch store and are saving about 1/2 on dog food for Blue going with his recommendation of what he feeds his own dogs. Fingers crossed. --Elise

    3. YAY - you did great! What a good price on the veggies!!!!! $2 off a bag!!!! Hope the dog food works out!

  7. We don't change our clocks, and we rise and go to bed following the sun. Much less stressful. Being retired, we have very few places that we have to be at a set time. The ones that we do have to be on time for we adjust the appt. time to "our" time when we write it on the calendar. Didn't miss an appt. all year. I, too, have never understood the logic of taking an hour of daylight off the morning and adding it to the evening. Permanent DST would mean sunrise at nearly 9:00 a.m. in the winter here. Studies have shown that the human body is inherently wired to sleep when it is dark and be awake when it it light and that messing with that rhythm is harmful.
The last time I bought stamps they were $.47. I still have over 200. I use maybe a dozen a year.
Our health insurance is going to go up $84/year, and the dental premium is staying the same. Husband had read that the Medicare Part B premium is to go down because the Alzheimer's drug that caused it to increase drastically last year is a failure. We'll see. Health (incl Medicare) and dental insurance is by far our largest expense, followed closely by income taxes

    1. Well, aren't you the smart one! I never really thought about not changing the clocks - but if you don't go out much that makes sense. The one in the car will be right this time - as I never changed it in the spring!
You have had those stamps a while - but hey, they are still good. That is great.
I think my health is about $136 + Medicare. Still much better than I was paying under the supposed cheaper health care act. That was a rip and I had horrible coverage. It sure would be nice if Medicare went down - since SS is going up. Now that would be a win-win.

  8. I totally agree with leaving the clocks alone! I wouldn't mess with the clocks if my husband wasn't still working. It always messes me up ALOT and by the time I get sort of used to it, it's time to turn them back. We haven't needed this DST for years, so why do they do it?! I think some of us know why! It really messes up my animals on the farm and also my small rescue animals at the beginning of this change in November. I think they adjust better and quicker than I do though. I try to do it slowly with the time change for them so they adjust easier. The looks I get is..."Hey you're late, or hey, you're early". As you said, they have their little internal time clocks and they work really well!
Yep, stamps are moving along again with price hikes as with everything else. Buy when you can for everything you use as it appears that not anytime soon will prices stay the same or decrease. Don't forget your pets and livestock. Food may be an issue in the future for them as well. It stores well in a container unopened and kept in a cool, dark, dry place. As I say, ride the waves the best that you can and teach others to surf those too. Grow a garden with any ground you have or use containers. Every little bit helps. God Bless and may HE show us the WAY.

    1. I don't get the messing with the clocks TODAY either.
My kitties have always stayed on their own schedule - which means by the clock I will be getting up earlier now. That is OK - I do it every year. I don't really get an extra hour of sleep!!!!
Yep, now is the time to stock up on what you can. I don't 'need' anything - but keep going out to the store. I always come home with something that I forget I might need to stock.
You have that right - we need to teach and preach far and wide - hoping others will listen. Ride the waves is a good analogy. He will show us the way - IF we listen!

  10. I’m looking forward to the time change because it will mean I get up an hour “earlier”.
The cats don’t agree with the time change effect on meal time!
I’ll have check my stamp stash. I very rarely use stamps, and a few years ago stopped sending Christmas cards and nothing bad happened ;) so I quit sending them.

    1. My cats will not agree with different mealtime either! I don't mind the hour earlier getting up - I seem to get more done - just messes with my body.
LOL - I still send cards - just not as many. I know a lot of people who don't send them any longer.

  11. Since I'm Canadian and I live in Saskatchewan, none of those items affects me. Good thing because this whole spring forward, fall back, just confuses me. What it does is change the times of the shows I like to watch so I have to double check my PVR settings. Small price to pay!

    1. I am glad you don't have to be bothered with these things. It confuses ALL of us! It is just silly.
My shows stay the same - if 8PM before - still 8PM - but the rest of it is annoying!

  12. I am with Maebeme, we don't have to worry about time changes because Saskatchewan stays at the same time all year around. It does interfere with my evening television watching though.

    God bless.

    1. Weird how it affects the timing of TV shows in Canada but not in US. I guess many shows are produced in US.
Glad you don't have to change things.

  13. I guess I better get some more stamps. I do write letters and send cards during the year.

The clock change always messed up the pets' eating schedule and the kids' sleeping. I don't like. I really don't see how it benefits anyone.

  14. Good morning Cheryl, I'm ok thanks just plodding along trying to keep busy. Still adjusting to preparing meals for one but I'm getting there. Our stamps in England are changing to new design that has a bar code. You can send them back to the Royal mail and swap old for new. Seems like everything is breaking past week. Phone. Fence panels but it's a learning curve on how to go about fixing thing's for myself. Glad to hear that your peepers ( eye's ) are doing good ☺

    1. Hi there. Good to hear from you. You have been on my mind.
It is most definitely a learning curve and it takes a long while to get used to. It seems things break in groups - it is never just one thing! It is very frustrating, but you can do it. If you need help, do not feel bad asking for it.
Take care and be kind to yourself.
