A Pretty, A Fun, A Creative

Happy Tuesday to all.  Hope you are all well and doing good.  It is a wet morning here.  We had rain overnight and it is still misting out.  The temps when getting up were still in the 60'sF.  It will get close to 70 today, then it appears that temps will be slowly dropping the next few days.  I guess it is time. Sigh!!

I am so tired this morning.  I slept last night, but starting at about 2AM I managed to wake and look at the clock EVERY half hour!  I went right back to sleep, but each time I slept I dreamed some of the craziest dreams.  I dreamt of people I haven't even thought about in decades and just weird things.   My mind was very active, for sure.  The covers were a mess this morning, so I must have moved a lot too.  I do believe today may be a short nap day!  You ever have one of those nights?

This was Sunday evening at sunset.  So pretty - but look at that cloud formation in the center.  It really was strange looking, which is why I took the picture.  I looked out and saw that 'funnel' looking cloud and had to grab the camera.  Last night was gorgeous as well - it looked like mountains with pinks and oranges behind them.  Yeah, we don't have mountains nor hills where I am!  Such beauty - the best art right outside.
Click on the picture to see it larger.

This is my kitchen clock.  I 'inherited' this from a neighbor that passed a couple years back.  This summer her BIL was finally letting go of her things and he knew what a cat lover I am.  What you can't see is that the tongue moves back and forth every second.  It is such a fun addition and a reminder of Rosemary.  Isn't it fun?
It reminds me of the old Felix the cat clocks!!!

I told you in Sunday wrap-up about cleaning the filter in the bathroom faucet.  Well, for a long time the kitchen sink seemed to have low pressure.  I couldn't understand as nothing has been changed underneath the sink.  I decided to try and remove the filter from it - NOPE, that wasn't happening.  So, I got a little creative.  I took a small juice glass and put vinegar in it.  Then I place a rubber band over faucet and wrapped it a time or two - then placed the little glass over the end of the faucet (to cover the filter part on spicket) and wrapped the rubber band around it.  Clear as mud now?  LOL.  I forgot to take a picture.
Anyway, I left it that way for about 3 hours while I worked outside.  Came in and removed and turned on the water - after a few sputters I had full flow of water again!  My pressure at least doubled.  I guess it was really clogged up as well.
Sometimes we may think things are all messed up - and just a little creative thinking can remedy the problem with NO money spent!
Have you got any FREE fixes that worked for you around the house that saved having to hire help or buy something new??  Inquiring minds need to know!!

Well, I guess I need to get busy.  I truly need to sew - I keep talking myself out if it!  Sometimes I can be such a procrastinator - that is one of the things about me I need to work on!

Wishing you all a great day.  Stay safe and stay healthy and be productive!

  1. I also was having issues with my kitchen faucet. What with all the water outage and sediment, the little aerator got clogged. I took it off. Boy, is that a learning curve, using un-aerated water! The water came flying out so fast it bounced out of the sink onto me and the floor! :D

My phone service returned yesterday - out since Sept 27th. The Boil Water advisory was lifted after lunch. So we're kinda back to normal, except for all those poor folks who lost their homes and all possessions and are now living in tents in the mud. There's snow in the forecast, I wonder what they will do? Where can they go? ... and the bridges and roads that got washed away, that's not back to normal yet.

That's a neat sky picture you have there. We've had some beautiful sunrise clouds, just as pink as roses! :)

    1. It is hard to fathom all you are going through! Very sorry you are going through this!

    2. Thanks. What I went through is *nothing*, just inconvenience. It's those poor folks who lost it all, even some family and pets got swept away, now they have Troubles to face. I cannot imagine.... Prayers for them, donations to the groups that minister to the unfortunate, supporting local business and local charity, I don't know what more to do. One of the local animal shelters lost everything (but they had already removed all the animals, thank heaven) and the local FoodBank got demolished.

    3. Oh Mary, I bet that was funny to see. Yes, it comes out quickly without a little something to slow it down. Hey, at least you have water and now are done with boil alert. Glad your phone service is back.
I cannot fathom what all those other folks are going through. There at least be FEMA trailers or something - not just a tent. I know some people choose to live that way daily (homeless), but unless it is a choice, no one should have to.
I sure hope someone can set up a trailer or something for a food pantry. I know people from all over are donating goods and money. Prayers for everyone.

    4. One thing I've often wondered... I've read suggestions about "A Bug-Out-Bag" - in case you have to evacuate your home suddenly - like fire or earthquake. Things you *must* have - like identification, policy numbers and contacts, medications. But that's no guarantee that your Bug-Out-Bag will make it through a crisis like a flood or fire. If I were rescued from the roof of my house after swimming into my attic to get there, would I actually have my driver license and social security card with me? How could I prove who I am? Will my brain work well enough to remember my son's phone number?

That's the kind of thought that comes when you're sitting in the dark during such a thing as this flood. And I don't have answers.

    5. I often read about bug out bags too. I don't live in an area where one would probably have to leave - except for fire. My animals would be my first thought - not ID. I have never made one either.
You make some very good points. I don't know what you would do. EVERYTHING is gone - how do you start anew? I think it is something maybe we all need to contemplate.

    6. There are some good prepper and survivalist sites available regarding this, my favorite is the Canadian Prepper, he has a very informative youtube channel.

  2. Good job on the kitchen tap. It was likely a calcium build-up - I've used the same method (though just a bag) on a shower head. It takes a few hours but the difference is drastic.
    Lovely sunset photo!

    1. Thanks - I have heard of that with the shower - so just figured I give it a go. It is worth a little time.
Thanks you - it sure was pretty in real life.

  3. My cute coffee cup clock stopped working- had for 30 years, no salvaging it. It bothers me because it was on the wall on the kitchen I could see without entering the kitchen. I tried all things to get it working. Good for you for handling a fix yourself.

    1. Oh shucks - what a shame. A cute clock is just a fun thing to have. It brings a smile each time I see mine.
Thanks, I just hate hiring someone if I can manage myself.
Glad to have you stop by!!!

  4. I love that clock! I've always wanted one of those old cat clocks. Google is my best friend when it comes to trying to fix things, there so many things I wouldn't know how to do without looking it up. I'm up almost every single hour, every two on good nights courtesy of my toddler (good chance he's autistic just not diagnosed yet).

    1. There are so many things we can do ourselves if we just try. You Tube shows about anything you can imagine - and then there is just our good old imagination!
Sorry you have to get up so much at nights. Doesn't make one feel rested. I have no idea why I did that, it sure was aggravating.

  5. Your restless night might be your subconscious trying to tell you something. The world is in a precarious state now, the US, Britain and France did the genius move of damning us to WW3 by giving Ukraine the go ahead on long range missiles. Today Ukraine hit Russian territory with ATACMS and Putin lowered the bar for the use of tactical nukes. Get your preps ready, just in case.

    1. Truthfully something I ate probably. My preps are always up to date - just because I have always been that way. Not really a prepper - just someone who likes to be prepared.
We do not talk about politics or world political problems here - this is a safe place. Thank you for refraining in the future.

  6. Great fix!!! I love how you had a go at resolving an issue, so resourceful!!!
That sure is a pretty sunset, we have had some lovely ones lately as well.
My sleeping is dreadful, at the most I get four hours in one go. My sleeping in done in two shifts during the night, or on some bad nights just the one. I hope this was just a one-off for you and not a regular thing.
That clock is so cute, that a lovely thing to remind you of a person that meant something to you. What a blessed life you have!!!

    1. Oh Louise thank you. I do feel blessed indeed. I have some wonderful neighbors and great family and friends.
Well, I just try things until I get a fix! Some work and some don't.
I usually wake and look at the clock a lot during the night - and back to sleep easily. The dreams were the weird thing for me. Sure, I normally dream - but these were bazaar and exhausting! Hopefully it was just a strange night.

  7. We have used that same method on our shower head. Just used a sandwich bag though.

I have some crayons left from when I worked in a school with the younger grades and have used those to touch up scratches. Works not too badly.

    God bless.

    1. Vinegar sure has a lot of uses!
Good idea! I used to have one of those furniture crayons - but heck, regular crayons would work fine. Thanks.

  8. The sunset is beautiful! Great capture! Today was very nice and I had the door to the screened porch open while our guests were here. They have lived in Florida long enough to dislike cold weather. They are staying with other relatives until after Thanksgiving. It was such a joy to see them and hug their necks. My niece has my mom's 1950's silver Christmas tree. Her son found a color wheel for her at an antique show. Mommy had a color wheel for the tree and was probably lost over the years.

It's amazing what vinegar will do, particularly with our hard Indianapolis water.

You are not the only one who sleeps in sections, I call it. Some nights I sleep several hours, some a few hours at a time. Of course the dogs call out to go potty. Not too bad as long as one can go back to sleep.

The clock is so cute and especially meaningful as a reminder of your neighbor.

We are all for free fixes! Often we will find something to use that we have tucked away for a some day use. I'm like my mother was, "you might need that someday". She didn't save junk, just things that could be of value to someone.

    1. Glad you had such a good visit!!! That is great.
I had a couple windows open today - it was lovely out.
I want a silver tree!!!! I remember we had one for 1 year and mom hated it, so it never went back up. I wish I had it and a color wheel - what fun.
Oh I am that way too - keep it in case!!! Soon as you throw it away you will need it!!!!

  9. Does the end of the faucet spicket screw off? If so, you may have loosened it enough to clean the rest of it out. Sometimes, mine had little rocks in it, so I would screw off the end and remove the screen and clean it with a toothbrush.
My ex declared we needed a plumber when the water spewed out sideways. I made him wait until I could unscrew it. All the little rocks were making the water go sideways.

    1. It is supposed to screw off - but it is stuck, which is why I did it this way. It is working great now. I screwed off the one in the bath and scrubbed it.
It is amazing the build up from hard water.
