Friday - and Shop Small Saturday

Howdy doody to all this morning.  I hope you all had a lovely Thanksgiving yesterday.  Or maybe you are celebrating today or tomorrow or even Sunday - whatever you do ENJOY.
I had a super day with family.  It is always nice catching up with everyone.  Yesterday, I felt like a couple of barriers were broken as well.  I have a couple of nephew-in-laws that hardly ever talk to me or anyone.  Yesterday I had great talks and laughs with both.  It sure didn't go unnoticed!
I also had a tiny gr.gr. niece that doesn't make up to hardly anyone other than mom & dad & grandparents - grab ahold and cling to me most of the day!!  She kept telling me 'I love you' and hugging and giving smooches.  We played a lot too!  LOVED IT!

It is cold this morning.  I have been out and fed all of the creatures out there.  I have a small turkey breast in the oven.  It appears I am the only one in the neighborhood that is up!  Many are gone for the weekend, and the rest have dark houses and days off today.  Surprisingly none seem to be out shopping this morning.
Just a reminder that tomorrow is considered shop small Saturday!  I hope more people take advantage of the smaller shops this season and actually, always.  Small ethnic groceries, boutiques, craft bazaars, small antique shops, indoor farm markets, bakeries, restaurants, etc.
It is so important to those small businesses.  It is actually their bread and butter, so to speak.  They need the sales to take care of their families - not to just get richer as the huge retail shops do!
Little shops on Main Street sure do deserve your business.

For me today - it is NO SPEND Friday!!  I have no intentions of going out shopping today at all.  It is Black Friday here, tons of sales and deals - and TONS of crowds and people!  Too peopley for me!!
I will be staying in and keeping warm and working on projects.

Christmas is 26 days from now!!  Yep, it is just around the corner.  It really is hard to believe.
Are you ready?  I am not - at least not completely.  I still need a few gifts for kiddos and some items to make.  I got some ideas yesterday, for 2 or 3 kiddos that I just couldn't decide on.  Now I have a better idea.

So just help out a small business this holiday season if you possibly can.  It means so much to their families.  Let us all try to 'shop small' all year round when can.

Hope you are all warm and safe - and have a super weekend.

  1. Glad you had a good Thanksgiving Day, Cheryl. Mine was lovely, the food and the company were delightful. Had to get out early this morning as butter and milk were all used up. It's awfully cold and I can bake cookies today, a toasty warm thing to do. Then tomorrow I could "shop small" shops, local places. At least that's my plan. Getting anything for daughter-in-law is a challenge. She loves to shop so I always give money, but that's a poor gift for under the tree, so I want some pretty somethings. In the past I've given her little earrings and such, but far as I can tell they are never used... so it's time to change direction. Puzzle.

We could use prayer for a teen named Ariel who was in a car wreck and broken up pretty badly inside and out (a drunk driver hit her).

    1. Sounds like yours was wonderful as well. That is great. I just love the fellowship of family.
I baked a small turkey breast and it warmed the house nicely. I have a t-shirt and sweatshirt on, but was still chilly, so put on a zip up sweatshirt too! The house is warm, but I have a chill.
Sometimes we have to change up our shopping ways for others. If they don't use things, a new direction is called for.
Oh that poor girl. That is so sad. Prayers said for Ariel. People just don't think about their actions at times.

  2. I don't shop during peak times, a little too chaotic for me and I just give food gifts like chocolates, gourmet jams, spices, condiments etc...Just looking forward to the new Black Friday videos of the shoppers fighting, swearing, hitting, trampling, ramming each other with their carts...good times.

    1. I stay out of stores during these big shopping days. You may be disappointed. I saw the malls and stores on the news this morning and they were all pretty quiet and void of people.
Not sure why anyone would find violence entertaining! Sad

  3. Nice you had fun with family and bridged some gaps. We had a quiet day at home. Frost this morning. We’ve put out two ferrel cat boxes this year to shelter anyone who needs it.
I did get a good deal on my eyeglasses, it being Black Friday. Didn’t even have it in mind when we went to the p.o. to mail a package back East. The cost of the frames and lenses was greatly reduced for my new progressive lenses, yay! I think it was a God-thing.
Glad you’re keeping warm at home with the kits and have some good turkey to munch on.

    1. Sounds like a nice day at home. It has been flurrying here all day.
That is great about the eye glasses. They sure are expensive - so any deal would be wonderful. I do believe we are put in some places for a reason!
Thanks - I am happy with my kitties in my little house.

  4. It is the best when we get to hang out with the littles! Our grandson was so much fun yesterday and talked and talked. Seems the 'he eats everything and everything' is over though.

I ordered a number of gifts from family friends company today and I love spending money with those we know and know they only sell the best.

    1. Oh the littles are just the best part of any get together. Such sweetness. Glad you got to have such a nice time.
How nice to celebrate your friend's business by ordering. That is pretty nice.

    God bless.

    1. Thank you. I sure did enjoy it. Her mommy said kids are like animals - they know who is good and who isn't. Made my heart swell. I just love them all so much.

  8. I supported my Local Quilt Shop with a sizeable order Friday evening. I've gone through 340 yards of fabric this year sewing for Sleep in Heavenly Peace kids. I will donate quilts as long as I can afford the ingredients :-) I also ordered a bunch of quilting thread I can't get locally.

    Happy small business Saturday !!!

    1. What a wonderful thing to do!! I love that - I remember Frances did Project Linus. I just love that kind of thing. Great job and nice to help out the local shop as well. Win-win.

  9. Sounds like a wonderful day with your family.
I found the mall very busy here in Bismarck, but stand-alone stores weren't as bad. I've done well with my shopping and will spend part of the day relaxing at the hotel.

    1. It was a great day!
Maybe we have more malls in our city - it just didn't look like 'normal' this year from what I saw. News even said it was down.
Hope you have enjoyed your visit and glad you got to shop somewhere different.

  10. Your Thanksgiving sounds lovely and I am glad that you broke down those barriers and had such a good time. :) I am currently waiting for Jeff to get off work so that we can head down to our craft fair here in town. Everyone selling there is local and make lovely things whether it be food or craft items. I think we may even grab a late lunch since both a family-owned Mexican food and a family-owned butcher's shop that makes specialty meat items will be there today.

    1. Thanks. That sounds like a fun day to me. I really do love craft fairs and bazaars - just haven't gotten to many in the past few years. The food sounds right up my alley! I love Mexican food - probably my favorite. Have fun!
