Thankful Thursday

Morning all.  Well, our streak of good weather came to a screeching halt!  I woke up to 60'sF two days ago, and today it was 32F.  The grass is white!!!  Well crud, I guess I knew it had to happen sooner than later!
Now playing in my neighborhood - "it's beginning to look like Christmas".
We set a record of not having a freeze yet this late in November of 100 years!  Well, so much for records.
At least the snow is only on the grass right now.  Streets and sidewalks look clear.
More snow tonight - but none of this will last too long, as it warms some this weekend.

I had a couple posts in mind for today - one on stretching food, the other on being happy where you live, but have decided to just take a day to be thankful.
So many people have gone through so much this year and have lost much - if not everything.  I cannot fathom.  We all have lost people over the years, but here we are - OUR job isn't done!

So many little things that we just never think about and take for granted - flip and switch and have light.  Turn a knob and have hot water.  A place to lay our heads at night (inside).  Food, no matter how simple it may be, to eat.  A snuggle from a pet.  Friends and family to love and love us back.  Money to pay our bills.

I look out my window this morning, and it looks pretty.  The white of the snow and my neighbor has a bright yellow tree that looks to be glowing.  Where I sit at the moment, that is what I see.  That one burst of color!  Do I like snow?  Not really - but is part of nature and it is all necessary and to be expected.

I went out to feed the birds and squirrels this morning and Licorice too!  He didn't seem happy!  He has lived his whole life outside and should be used to it.  The neighbors have insulated boxes for the kitties, but I think Licorice must feel he hit the lottery!  After eating a bit ((under car out of the snow) he went to the greenhouse and curled up in his blankies - no wind or snow in there (and no one to share with)!!!  I snuck the rest of his food through the kitty door.  He knows a good thing when he sees it!!!!  LOL

No matter what you put your hands to today, take time to be thankful for everything - big and small.  Whether you sit in a cozy place like above with a cup of coffee, or you bake, or you sew, or you just curl up and read - do it with a thankful heart.

Stay safe everyone.  I know snow is hitting many areas.  Stay warm and stay the wonderful folks you are.  I am thankful to have you in my life.

Have a blessed day.

  1. It's pretty windy and chilly here (20's) but no snow. We do need to always remember that there is suffering all around us and we shouldn't take anything for granted. Enjoy the rest of your week!

    1. Really no snow? I figured you would have some already. Lucky you. Yes, no matter what our problems, there is someone with a worse set of problems. Life can change in a second!
      Thank you - you too!

  2. I'm thankful that the last storm skirted past us, and we ended up with just an inch or so more snow. It did blow around a lot and there were drifts, but this small town I live in had their plows out all day yesterday clearing things up.
It is cold here -13C/9F and we're in for some colder weather next week. I'm grateful for a comfortable home and a good car when I need to run errands. Life is definitely much easier than it was many years ago.

    1. Glad it wasn't worse. It is nice when you have good road teams to take care of things. That is cold!!! Brrrr
A comfortable home and a good car are such a blessing. Stay warm!

  3. Good morning! We got just a little of the white stuff overnight -- enough to cover the gardens, but the grass was too wet for it to stick. We had mostly rain yesterday, most mixed with some sleet or light snow. But, we're expecting more heavy wet snow mid-morning thru late afternoon, expected to accumulate maybe 2". Like you, it is a time to be thankful, and today I was extra thankful for my daughter and her crochet skills. For Mother's Day, she made me a scarf to go with my winter coat and it certainly came in handy this morning!

    1. Yes, we have more coming later today and tonight - 1 1/2" or so. It won't last too long.
Oh I bet that scarf felt nice - bundled in love as well!!
      Stay safe and warm.

  4. The weather was bound to change...after all, it is November. I got up about 2:30 a.m. to let the dogs out and it was till 41 degrees. When the Farmer let the dogs out at 8:00 a.m., Jacob decided he didn't want any part of the white stuff and tried to come back in. Nope, gotta go out and potty! Licorice landed a good place to live!

So many things to be grateful for...good food, a warm house, a hot shower, the ability to read and understand (especially the Scriptures). Doing laundry today and very grateful that I don't have to schlep the clothes to the laundromat. My plan is to finish hemming some pants (the bane of short people!,) and I am grateful for my sewing machine. Actually I am grateful for folks who donate to the charity shops. Have you priced retail clothes lately? Yikes! I especially grateful for bloggers like you who put lots of time into a blog post and draw us all together. This is how we learn and encourage one another.

We had turkey sausage gravy this morning over eggs, toast (for the Farmer, and fried turnips with onion and a Cubanelle. Seemed like a good day to have a hearty breakfast. The Farmer made a hamburger based soup yesterday with lots of veg. Plenty left for today and it will be good to have hot soup on a day like this.

Stay warm with the kitties! The dogs look forward to our afternoon cuddle on the couch with a warm blanket. So do I!

    1. I don't blame the doggies - do you? LOL
Licorice is the neighbor's cat - but they had one that picked on him a lot, so he kind of ended here. No one to bother him, unless mean cat shows up - then I chase it away!

Oh clothes are so expensive. Yes, thank goodness for thrift shops. Thank you - it just makes life a little better. Nice to have a lot of friends (even though we haven't met). I definitely feel friendships here.
Sounds like a good breakfast on a cold day. I have soup cooking right now. Seems like a soup day to me.
      Thanks - you stay warm.

  6. All true and spot on. It's easy and human nature to take modern conveniences for granted. In many parts of the world too many folks can't find any food, clean water, power, shelter, clothing. I read that if the internet went out for say eight hours, there are urban areas that would probably fall into chaos and yelling at the sky over loss of cell phone service. People in western countries have much to be thankful for.

    1. We sure do. I sure wouldn't mind if the Internet went down - it would be quiet in my view. But I know what you are saying - people are so spoiled and want instant gratification.

  15. The streets are totally clear...in the neighborhood they are dry...main roads were still damp...but I was thankful for that. I don't think a day goes by that I don't wonder how our ancestors made it through illnesses/aging process without what we have today. Washers, and dryers, and a whole lot more I won't name on here.

    1. It was amazing this morning. Last night it was snowing as it got dark (hard), got up early this morning and it was gone! Much to do about nothing it seems!!!
Just think about how your mom did without a lot, then go back even further. It truly is amazing how spoiled we are - and we love it.
Good to have you stop by. Stay safe and sending hugs!!!!
