Hello and happy mid-week! It is a cold morning and a frosty one here! About 10* colder than yesterday morning. I guess compared to many places it could be called chilly, but yuck on the heavy frost. The sun is shining, and the birds are singing. Licorice had his breakfast and then went to do a walk-about! Bits is sitting here next to me bathing (he is sitting like a people!). My house is warm. So really a good day here in my book!
Today I thought I would show this little chart I came across about de-cluttering.
Click on the picture to enlarge for easier reading.
This is a good chart to use for APRIL de-clutter. Many are just starting their spring cleaning and de-clutter. I don't care how much I do, there is always something I come across that needs to be organized.
Now I know some of the items on the chart may take a lot longer (in some homes) than it says. But it is a guide to use. You can change activities to different days, you can spend just a few minutes, you can spend a day. It just gives us things to think about that we may ignore on a regular basis!
A drawer, a closet shelf, a closet floor, a box, a clothes rack, a bureau or dresser, the laundry area, the toy box, a cabinet, a pantry shelf...............
Start somewhere and do something each day. You may not have a thing to get rid of, but you can straighten and sort and organize.
Take 15 minutes or a few hours - whatever you need each day. Just do a little and get a lot done. Baby steps!
Come May, pretty much everyone will be spending their free time outdoors. April is still a month of ups and downs in weather - so use those down days to organize inside.
No one but you may know what you accomplished, but that is OK. Every time I open a drawer or cabinet that is all organized and cleaned out - I smile. It makes me happy - so it was a good job done.
If you have items to go - perhaps you can sell them or give away on Free cycle pages or donate - and bless someone else. You make yourself happy clearing it out and another happy by donating. That is a good thing.
Have a super day to all.
Spring IS coming!!!! I promise!
Decluttering seems to be an ongoing process. The games drawer was recently organized by removing the appliance/equipment manuals. They were placed in a magazine holder & put in a closet. Now the games drawer is just that, holding score sheets, cards, crib board, etc. The cupboards over the fridge hold large serving bowls, vases, candle holders, pitchers. That was decluttered over the winter. There were bowls I've never used. Items that need to go are placed in a basement area. When fundraising garage sales (library, lodge, further ed) are posted, the items are taken there. It's a good feeling to donate unused items.
ReplyDeleteIt sure does! Never ending.
DeleteIt sounds like you have made a good start in the organization. Love that you just need a good sale to donate it all to. It is a good feeling.
I plan on putting anything to get rid of on my curb with a FREE sign. I just get overwhelmed and I hate doing a garage sale. Pay it Forward!!
ReplyDeleteLove it! We put things out front and sometimes the alley and it is always taken. One man's trash is another's treasure!!!
DeleteLove the decluttering calendar! Cute little graphics! I am all about lists and charts. Do you know the source? I would post it on Instagram if I could give credit. We have been doing some decluttering but not near enough. I'm sure you all know what I mean.
ReplyDeleteBits is quite a sweet little fellow! Is he getting along okay being an only cat?
It certainly is a beautiful day. We have a return to go back to Costco and about three other stops while we are out.
I am a list maker - so this works for me! I saw it posted by a friend of FB - not sure the source.
DeleteHe is quite the sweetheart. I am his friend!!! He loves following me and talking to me. He sleeps with me too. He loves visiting his friend Licorice through the door!
It is pretty for sure. Nice to see the sun.
I am waiting waiting waiting for our local charity shop to repoen after that wretched hurricane. It seems they had severe damage to their building and repair work is ongoing. I have a basket full of things for them when they reopen - I've heard that will be in April, but that's just a rumor. Every day or so I put something else into my basket and I really need a second basket! It's becoming a Pile of Stuff rather than a basketful. :)

I am glad they are getting things back in order - and how wonderful that you (and I bet others) will be donating. It is good to do something daily - it just frees us up a little at a time and helps someone else.
DeleteI came back from my winter vacation and the first thing I did was go through my dresser drawers and closet to declutter clothing. I brought back several items from my thrift shopping and needed the room. I did the same thing here at my daughter's, and also tackled my craft items. It's amazing how those last drawers didn't bother me before I left, but sure did now. Perspective!
ReplyDeleteSomething I have gotten into the habit of doing, twice a year on or around April 1 and November 1, is to pull the stove and fridge out to clean behind them. With pets in the house, there is always lots of fur, plus toys, and usually a few spills too.
I love the graphic and will make a copy for myself. Thanks!
It is funny how things change our perspective. Bring items in - things go out - a good method.
DeleteGood idea on the stove and frig.
Sure hope this helps several people.
I love this, and I made a copy to go on my fridge!
ReplyDeleteYou go girl! Love it!
DeleteI love that chart!
ReplyDeleteWhenever I set about to declutter I ask myself how can I make this work better for me? Somehow that makes the decisions easier and I don't get stuck in endless debates on whether I should keep something.
Right? That is kind of what I thought too. It gives us ideas and tasks to accomplish. Even if just a few minutes a day - it makes it very relatable.
DeleteThat's a really good chart. Some people get overwhelmed about where to start and then tackle too much at once, or leave it until another day that never comes.
ReplyDeleteI am helping my friend whose father died last year, her mother had sister had already died. So she is on her own and goodness there is so much including many magazines and papers going back to the 1960's. It's encouraged me to do more decluttering of things I never use or even look at.
I thought so too. De-cluttering can be very overwhelming. When you have had to do that process after a death - it sure puts your home and things in perspective. I have helped with that before and what a job. Yet, I still keep stuff and don't understand why! Always more to go. Small steps eventually make big progress.
DeleteWhat a cute chart. I am starting my spring cleaning the beginning of April. First is the kitchen and I am sure I will find a few more items to donate. I might even try to sell a few items as well.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
It sure seems there is always something. It always amazes me, just how much stuff we keep. Best of luck.
DeleteThis is a great plan. Since our daughter and granddaughter moved in, the clutter is CRAZY around here. They plan to move into their new addition in a few months, and I look forward to getting my side of the house back in order!!!
ReplyDeleteI bet it is hectic with another family living there. Stuff, there is always lots of tuff, isn't there? You use that little chart, regardless of when, and get it all back in order in no time!
DeleteI love to declutter by category only. LOOOOOOVE it. That said, whatever works for someone else is also very cool for them. Love that for them.
ReplyDeleteYep, there are so many ways. Do what works for you!
