De-Clutter CHECK-IN

Remember at the first of the month, we all decided to take the de-clutter challenge?  Today is check-in day!!!!!!
I know there are several who are thinking of moving, folks who have inherited things, and those who (like me) are just looking to lighten the load.

HOW IS IT GOING???
I have many things boxed up and ready to donate.  I seemed to get side tracked some this month with doing some home maintenance (outside) and gardening.  I didn't get as much done as I intended.  We all know that saying about "the best laid plans.....".
I am not giving up and I am not stopping.

I was told over the weekend that 3 neighbors are planning on having yard sales this coming weekend, in case I was interested.  I thought about it - but I think I will pass.  Temps will be back to 90*, and a week isn't enough time for me to get it all done and priced.  Oh boy, do I have the excuses!!!!!!  LOL

I figure  even though I go slow at this, it is getting done.  I have much yet to do - but I will eventually get there.
I have many items that I cherish and love, and I really want to be able to show those off and enjoy them more.  I have much that is JUST HERE - that I don't love.  It needs to go.  There is no reason to have things that don't make us happy or joyful.

Please let us know how your venture is going.
Have you been able to purge items or are you still collecting?
Have you been consistently working on it or are you slowed by summer chores too?

BE HAPPY - DE-CLUTTER!!!!!

  1. Well, you already know we got rid of our freezer. Yay!! But yesterday we cleaned out both bedrooms and got rid of so much stuff and it looks so much better. I still have things to o and get rid of, but this is a step in the right direction.

  2. I have been cleaning out my closet! I got rid of several scarves and several pairs of shoes. I folded T shirt and put in a drawer to free up a lot of space. I also replaced some robes and pajamas that were VERY old, worn, and stained. Those went straight in the trash! Almost anything I ever do is a little at a time but over time things do get done! I am refinishing doors in my home- 15 total including closets and front door- one at a time- I am on number 5!

    1. So right. I love doing projects in small increments - it make it seem less intimating.

Good for you on the closet clean out - you are doing great. WOW that's a big job on the doors, but they will be so nice when you get done.
      Keep on truckin'!!!

  3. I've been on a mission all summer long! Forget spring cleaning, I've discovered that there's something about summer that makes me want to strip my house down to the bare necessities. I've already dropped off one trunkload at the thrift store, and I've started a second pile. I need to go through my closet and my daughter's toybox (wish me luck on THAT!), and then I'll start tackling the nightmare that is our laundry room and then our basement (it's baaaaaaaaaad. The worst part is that it's mostly my husband's stuff, so I'm not sure how effective I can be there. I may end up doing what amounts to a bunch of reorganization of his collection of technology cords that haven't been used since the late 90's, etc). There's something so satisfying about getting rid of the things you don't need.

    1. Good work!!!!! On the toy box - just wait till she isn't around, and get rid of things she hasn't played with in ages. I bet she won't even notice.

As far your hubs stuff - GOOD LUCK WITH THAT!!!!! Ugh. Maybe you can rearrange in totes or something. My basement is my worst as well. It seems things just get designated to "the pit".
Best of luck - it's a tough job.

  4. Well, two goals for me:
    1. Get eBay and other selling sites up and running again.
    2. Revamp sewing and craft room.

Goal 1 is begun but not finished.
Goal 2 is almost done. Nothing like having company to put the craft room back in order!

Adding a third goal now, Goal 3. Dust and re-sort items in fluorescent rock room (hubby's room so will take some patience as he is not a neat-nik and I am).

    1. You go girl! I have never used selling sites at all. They truthfully scare me - unless I am purchasing something that comes via mail. I just won't do any of the neighbor sites - too much meanness in the world!

Company can always get you motivated!! You can come work on my craft room!!

Men don't usually get in as much of a hurry to organize or de-clutter as women. Good luck!

  5. I'm slowly purging... I try to take a box a week to the local thrift. I have a box of toys to go out today!

    1. I think you are doing good. We 'acquire' so many things on top of what we already have at times, and it is just difficult.
Good going on a box a week! That is fantastic.

  6. My decluttering has been going slow but I am still moving forward. I donated quite a bit and have things set aside that are higher value for my cousin's new resale shop that he is opening.

    1. Slow and steady - that is fine.
How cool on a new shop - that will be fun.

  7. I can't remember who posted a challenge for August about tossing/donating stuff. It was the 1 item on the first, 2 on the second, etc. to 31 on the thirty first. I started that today and talked my best friend with hoarding tendencies into it!! Her husband is teasing that she can't do it so she wants to prove him wrong!!

    1. That would be a lot of stuff by the end of the month! WOW. Good luck to you and also to your friend. Hope she succeeds. She may find it liberating.
