A Tisket A Tasket......

Easter is upon us in a few days.  Many are observing holy week.  Things will not be the same this year.  No big family dinners.  No church services in groups.  No going out and showing off the new Easter clothes.
BUT Easter isn't cancelled!!!!!  The reason for the day NEEDS to be celebrated.  We can fix our meals for ourselves - and maybe share with a lonely neighbor. (Call them and advise you are leaving dinner outside their door for them to pick-up).
Read your Bible and PRAY.  Watch an Easter service on TV.  Put on those fancy duds and feel good about yourself and look pretty for the day.
Dinner can be anything - it doesn't have to be the traditional Easter meal.
Set a pretty table and enjoy.  Cut some pretty flowers from the yard and make a centerpiece.
THERE are MANY WAYS to make the day special!!!!!

Color some eggs - even if it is just you at home!  They make us smile.  You can use natural things to color.  Beet juice, onion skins, black tea, grape juice, etc.  Kool-Aid can be used.  OR you can just use parkers and draw cute little goofy faces on your eggs!  Have a little fun.

Dinner - can be anything.
Frittatas, crepes, roast and veggies, fried rice, lo-mein, lasagna, chicken, potato salad, coleslaw, deviled eggs, easy rolls, grill outside...………….  the list goes on and on.
This makes approx. 5-6 rolls.  Dip batter into muffin tins (lightly greased).  Bake at 350^ for about 15 minutes.
I am making these this weekend!  I haven't done them before - but have been told they taste much like old fashioned yeast rolls!!!!!!!!

Dessert can be fun - doesn't have to be fancy.
ANYTHING dipped in chocolate is great.
You can dip cookies, rice krispy treats, chunks of cakes, brownies, even potato chips in melted chocolate!
Use some canned fruit and make some sort of shortcake with a simple yellow cake mix or butter cake.
Bake little ice cream cone cakes.  Place batter in flat bottom ice cream cones (in a muffin pan).  Fill about 2/3 up and bake as you would cupcakes.  Make pretty colored cupcakes.
This is a yummy recipe - different yet yummy.  Very reminiscent of pecan pie!!!!!!  OH MY!!!!!

Different doesn't mean canceled!
Get up and have a nice breakfast.  Worship in your way.  Fix a nice dinner and eat at the table, made to look pretty.  Put on the pretty dress or outfit.  Talk with your family and friends.  Share some goodies with someone else.
YOU need to make the day a lovely celebration.  The day is already SPECIAL!

  1. I LOVE pecan pie but I don't make it often as it is a little bit of a pain to make. Those muffins look so good and easy to make. I think I'll try them soon. Thank you!

    1. Same here. It is my favorite pie - but just a bit too much to do very often. These can be made and frozen too. Your welcome

  2. I have a ham defrosting now. I'm making our traditional Easter meal. Ham, scalloped potatoes, Watergate salad, and steamed veggies. We started this meal many years ago and it was one that my family started expecting! My mom is gone now, my brother is in Cali, but now it's tradition. The best part is that it's easy and fairly cheap!

No Easter clothes tho. It's gonna be cold so we'll be wearing something warm with thick socks!!

I like to make hot cross buns on Good Friday but I have a can of whack em biscuits that need using. I might make hot cross whack ems instead! I bet they still taste good with a little something inside and icing on top. I don't have currents but I can sub raisins.

Love your thinking - a little improvising and you have something fun and special.

  3. Happy Easter week! I have set a pretty table, my easter tablecloth and a flower pot of tulips. We are probably going to have turkey breast and all the trimmings. Looking forward to it.

  4. It will be very strange not having a family get together. I will be calling them all instead. In February I went to the store to get clearance Valentine's candy. They had started putting out some Easter candy so I grabbed a few items, jellybeans, peeps and chocolate bunnies. My daughter asked if she could stuff the eggs for the egg hunt. We always use Valentines candy for it. We will color eggs on Easter morning. We never use a kit. I have a whole chicken that I saved for Easter. We will have all the sides. Usually we have ham but I never got one. We will watch mass online. My youngest daughter and I always make Easter cookies and we decorate them on Easter with the whole family. We will do it just us this year. No yard work on Easter. Maybe a long walk or bike ride. We will still be playing games. There are games you can play online with people in other locations so my sister and I said we will do it with our kids. Have a wonderful Holy week and Easter. Stay healthy.

  6. I'm thinking of making peanut butter eggs for Easter, but I don't have any graham cracker crumbs. My grandmother used to make them for us. I'll have to see what I can come up with. I've made the rolls before, but it has been a long time ago. I might make them soon too. I'm having to ration my flour these days. I love your ideas for making this Easter special. Just because we have to stay at home doesn't mean we cannot celebrate. :)

    1. Peanut butter eggs sound yummy.
It IS a special day and we NEED to treat it as such any way we can. Staying home should not take away from the specialness of the day.

  7. It was a toss up between making a pumpkin pie and a rhubarb sponge pie. Rhubarb sponge pie won as I need to use up items in the freezer.

    God bless.

  8. Thanks for the tips and recipes. They sound yummy. I may try them both.
It was my daughter's birthday this week, and she wanted to try the cupcake cones. They were fun, but they kept talking over
There were no spiral hams in the store, so I bought a small sliced ham and will make some sides. We'll color some eggs and make some bunny sugar cookies.
Hope you have a blessed Easter.

    2. Next time try scrunching some foil around the bottoms of the cones in a muffin tin - it keeps them standing upright.
Sounds like you will have all the normal goodies.
      Welcome! Enjoy

  9. I made the dinner rolls for Easter dinner and DH and I both thought they were fantastic! Perfect for 2 people since the recipe only makes 6. This has definitely been added to my recipe box! Thank you for sharing a good, quick recipe.
