Also listing a new recipe (to me) that I am going to make with my garden produce, as a holiday gift for my baskets. Using what you have is not only economical, but tasty and fun as well!
I am a huge fan of the fall scents. I try to have scented candles on hand all the time. If no candles - think about making your own potpourri. So simple - you can use what spices you have and truly like with water - and simmer. The house will smell heavenly.
I have not done this yet, as I have yeast. But I have heard that many have and that it works. Makes sense!
Sweet and Sour Sauce
Click on the pictures to be able to read better. I know the copy is light and I apologize. I am making this for the holiday baskets this year. Everyone I know likes sweet and sour sauce - so it is a winner. It is a water bath recipe.
It is pretty easy and I have everything I need on hand.
Take care my friends and use what you have to make life good.
No need to spend a fortune to have a good life.
I made mussels marinara last night for dinner with my garden tomatoes, basil and parsley. It was my first time making it and it came out delicious. I will defiantly be making it again. I got the mussels on sale too. Trying to use up every little bit of our garden produce. My dehydrator is running almost every day.
ReplyDeleteThose tomatoes sure are nice to have. I love fresh ones so much.
DeleteI am not a mussel person - but I do bet that was good.
Good morning, Thanks for the recipes. The sweet and sour sauce sounds great! Great gift ideas.
ReplyDeleteYes mam - my thinking too. It is surely on my list to make for gifts. I may can in half pints.
DeleteEnjoy
zucchini and tomato season!! have found a few recipes to put up, favorites are zucchni relish and green tomato relish...thanks for the recipe, Cheryl, for the sweet and sour sauce
ReplyDeleteYUM - those are 2 favorites. I love green tomato relish so much - I can eat it with a spoon!!! Zucchini relish is better than using cukes to me.
DeleteYou are more than welcome!
Always great to use homemade.
ReplyDeleteI agree 100%
DeleteI am going to try that citrus scent.
ReplyDeleteI have been using it for several years. Hope you like it.
DeleteI am allergic to oranges but just bought a big bag of utility lemons. I prefer to use Meyer lemons for zest or candied peel but after I juice these ones I will use the peels to make myself a cleaner - I've spotted a few tiny ants in the kitchen recently so this will help to keep them at bay!
ReplyDeleteYou could make with lemons, limes, grapefruit skins - any would work.
DeleteIt should help your problem.
I have yeast to but that recipe is going to be written down, just in case.
ReplyDeleteI know. Me too - you never know!
DeleteThe orange cleaner is the bomb! I have several gallons of it as I use it for cleaning as well as weed control. Lemons work very well too, and I have tossed in grapefruit skins if I have them.
ReplyDeleteIt sure does work and it smells so fresh
DeleteWe make the orange cleaner too, Cheryl. That sweet and sour sauce sounds so good!
ReplyDeleteI know, I can't wait to make it. I have a feeling it will be another requested item!
DeleteI saved this page for the thing about citrus peels alone...we never get that many at one time. But still, would like to try it.
ReplyDeleteKeep them in a airtight bag until you have enough. Or just make a small batch of it - like a pint jar or 1/2 pint.
