JUST A Word

Well, the year is almost over.  WOW!  Do you make resolutions?  I haven't done that in ages - as they were never met fully and I always felt frustrated.  Most of us resolve to do something that we should have been doing all along any way - and we didn't do it and probably still won't!!!!  Just saying 'it' doesn't make it so!!  LOL

I like to pick a word for the year.  Something that I will strive for and hopefully follow though with.  It is not a resolution - but a thought for the year.  A word to strive for each day to make life better not just for me but for others as well.

I think my word for 2021 is LIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!

There have been some storms this year for everyone.  We have just had to pick ourselves up and put on our big girl panties and get on with it.  That is what we do!  Make the best of a bad situation.  The choice is yours - you can continue to moan, worry and feel stressed and put life on hold OR you can dance despite the rain!!

LIVE - what do I mean?  Well, I am going to enjoy the food, enjoy the drink.  I am going to spend more time in nature and enjoy it.  I am going make my home even more of a sanctuary to be happy in.  I am going to work harder at being a good person who listens, gives, and shares.  I am going to LOVE this life I have been given.  I am going to DO more good for others.  I want to do at least one random act of kindness each week.  I want to walk, move and exercise more.  I want to be happy.
I want to LIVE LIFE FULLY - I REFUSE to spend the year afraid of the what ifs.  (Yes I am careful and cautious around others - that doesn't mean I can't LIVE).
Living is experiencing and sharing.

For me (just my feelings) being afraid is having less faith than I should.  I am a spiritual person and I KNOW God has this.  If I doubt God - I have nothing.  To think that I have more power over my body and soul than God does is pretty outrageous to me.  When my day comes - my day comes.  God has already assigned that day and it will happen when it is supposed to.  His will be done.
SOOOOOOO until then I want to LIVE to the fullest!!!!!!!!

That old Dr. Suess was a smart old guy!!!!  Life is never easy - it is downright hard and painful sometimes - but it SURE is worth it.  I have had a lot of loss and hurt - but I am so happy I got to have the people in my life and the experiences I had with them.  What a gift.  They were worth it all.

I know everyone may not agree with my thinking and that is OK.  You are entitled to your opinion, just as I am.
As for me - I choose to LIVE bigger and better this coming year.  I will not let others burst my bubble.  I will not let others bring me down.
I will LIVE and enjoy life!

Do you make resolutions or choose a word for the year?  Do you have goals for 2021?

  1. I completely agree with this outlook Cheryl. Any resolutions have been the usual, lose weight, pay off debt etc. etc - now, I think I just want to live each month deliberately and thoughtfully. There is no point in looking too far ahead at the moment, I just try to get on with things day by day and really appreciate all that have and all the people that I have in my life.
    All the best for 2021.

    1. Aahhh thanks. Hon, I figured I have tried it the other way and it sucked! So be as positive as can be - it spreads to others and we all can share happiness.

  3. Well, I just simply love it! I do pick a word each year and had already chosen, Listen, as that isn't one of my strongest points. I alienate people that way and often miss out on the very important things they want to share. However, your Live, encompasses listening and so much more. So, I still have time to change my word. Many years ago, when I was actually young, an older co-worker said "young lady, any day you can put your feet on the floor is a good day". Well, I heard but kinda thought he was silly but it stuck with me. Funny how time works....I never forgot that..and now think he was a pretty smart man! See, I did listen then...lol!

    1. Listen is great. That is something that most of us don't do really well! I try - but minds wonder.
Boy oh boy was that guy right. It is indeed a good day to wake and have feet hit the floor.
Mom used to say the older you get the faster it goes. I used to think she was silly!! Weellllll, not so much any more. Time seems to fly.
So let's enjoy it and make the best of it!

    1. Thank you - trust me, I was not always like that. It took the right person coming into my life many years ago to change my outlook on everything!! When I became truly happy with me and my life - things turned around.

  5. I have a different tactic. I choose 10 Birthday resolutions during my birth month and these aren't the usual lose weight, pay off debt. This years included be nicer to my spouse and a better advocate for my mom (who is in a nursing home.) Thye are more reminders to get it better. At the end of the year I focu on what I learned from the past year. I have chosen a word of the year before but came up empty a few years ago and haven't tried again.

    Thank you for the encouragement.

    1. What a wonderful idea. I really like that. We all do what we can and what we need to - to become happier and better people. There sure is no one way. Bless you.
      Thanks for being here!

  6. I don't make New Year's resolutions, but tend to just make decisions about changes to make in my life when the mood strikes. For the past year, I have been striving to simplify my life. Thanks to the CCP bio-terrorism lockdowns, my simplification got a big boost.
I recently read a very good book entitled "Essentialism: The Disciplined Pursuit of Less" by Greg McKeown. His basic message is that we need to get down to what is essential in our lives and lose the rest. What actually is essential is unique to each person. The book is written from a corporate executive's point of view and uses a lot of workplace examples, but there is a lot there that applies to anyone at any stage of life.
Since I read the Essentialism book, I have been discerning what is essential in my life, and I have already taken some steps to eliminate what is not. More purging of belongings is happening today. I already go out much less. Unfulfilling relationships have been stepped back.
I want this all to lead to a narrower but deeper life where the things I do and own have true meaning for me. I want to be able to focus on my husband for the time we have left together. I am focusing on my making my home even more of a sanctuary for us. This is essential for our physical and mental health. I am already seeing positive results and hope to see even more good come from the changes.

    1. LOVE IT! We all need to re-examine life. We do and have so much that is not needed and takes away from life instead of improving it. This kind of goes along with what I plan on posting about today.
Good for you for taking the steps necessary to make YOU happy!

  7. His will be done, indeed! You have hit on the basis of peace. He is in charge and while I may prefer another outcome, I know His plans are not my plans, His way not my way. We had quite an experience one day this week. We were driving home on Rockville Road and a fella turned from a side street right in front of us and I could see his head was turned the opposite direction, not even glancing our way. The Urban Farmer stood on the brakes on our 21 year old car so consequently we have no brakes now. The hand of Elohim protected us from certain injury and maybe even death.

Making New Year's resolutions is basically an exercise in futility (for me). A word for the year, or even the month makes much better sense. I do know that I'm not getting any younger and it is vital that good health practices are very important. Decluttering is another ongoing task. I had mentioned that my sister-in-law had passed away and I don't envy her sons cleaning out her house as well as the garage that my brother kept adding on to. He built modified super sprint race cars and also worked on small airplanes. He would get damaged planes, rebuilt them and sell them. I have cleaned out three houses after the owners passed away and that is almost a fulltime job.

Warm temps with rain...almost like a March day! Thought about going to Meijer (just 3 miles down the road) but may stay in and work around here. We were at Meijer the other day and I saw on the clearance shelves "Buy 1 Get 3 Free" on the small containers of hand sanitizer. One of the buyers obviously overbought. I had purchased some cheap ones at Walmart so didn't need any more.

Love the poster...yes, dance in the rain! My youngest daughter knows three fellas who share an apartment. Two of them are positive and far more successful and happy than the one who is always whining. Of course we need to remember what Elohim did to the Israelites when they complained and kvetched.

    1. I am so glad you averted a near disaster! Your hubby was obviously paying attention and you had a powerful hand and protective arm around you!
It is difficult to have to clean someone's home out for sure. I and my siblings did our parents home - almost 60 years of stuff! I didn't help with my IL's home this summer - I feel for those who did - it was full!
These are little reminders to get stuff gone now and keep just what I really need! So much clutter.
Positive ways and positive people seem to be much happier. Why not be positive?

  8. I don't do resolutions either, as I tended to drop them by week 3 or so when life got too busy. I haven't ever chosen a word either, but I do have some goals for 2021. I want to continue the process of cleaning out the house, ridding myself of items that I no longer need nor want - most of it will be donated so someone else can use it. I plan to use my time to continue to learn and challenge my mind and body and if I lose a bit of weight as a result that's all good. :) And if everything goes well, I'm hopeful I'll be able to take a trip this fall.

    Take care and stay well!

    1. Great goals! Love the idea of donating things to bless someone else. We often forget - one man's things can surely bless another.
I want to learn and challenge my mind as well. We are never to a point that we shouldn't be learning something new every day. My Daddy always challenged me on that - learning something every single day!
I sure hope you get to take your trip!!!!
