Lessons Learned (?)

I have been reflecting a lot recently - as I am sure many have been.  Did you learn any lessons this past year?  Was it an awakening?  I learned and found myself being more grateful and aware of the small things.

I keep hearing people say - "I can't wait till things get back to normal."  NOT ME - I really didn't like all of 'normal'.  I see SOME things as much better now.
SURE I want people to be healthy - but there will always be disease and death.
SURE I want people to be able to get back to work and thrive - but many will just continue on with bad habits.
SURE there are things that we need to get back - church meetings, freely going about, working, socializing, HUGS, etc.

I see people have learned that they can survive on so much less than they thought
I see people have learned to cook from home
I see people have learned to have 'family time' again and sit down to dinner together and play together
I see we have learned that children can learn any where (many have home schooled for decades).
I see people are learning to garden and preserve
I see families helping one another
I see the public doing good deeds and helping others when they can
I see neighbors being kind and helping one another
I see people learning to be resourceful and recycle and getting creative
I see many employers have realized they can still provide work for people - but from their homes
I see people spending less
I see people realizing that being prepared IS important
I see people finally being grateful for all the LITTLE things (most are bigger than we think)

I really DO see a lot of positive.  I know many think I am Miss Pollyanna - well that is OK with me.  I'd rather look at the positive than negative.  I know bad stuff happens - it has happened to me too - but we can't quit.  We can't give up.  We have to keep marching forward and onward.
I will live my life in the most positive way I can to keep my mental health and the joy in my life.
You should too!

There will always be people who try their darndest to suck the joy out of the world.  Some CHOOSE to moan and groan and complain and never see good.  Those people are miserable and many are lonely.  I feel sorry for them and I pray for them.  God has this - give your worries and your concerns to Him.  YOUR job is to promote good and happiness and love upon the earth.

I hope we all choose to LIVE our best lives in the new year.
I will talk with you tomorrow!  Have a blessed day!

PS - these past couple weeks have been for reflecting and thinking about life.  Next week will back to normal!

  1. You know I do too. This last year was hard and the future few months it will continue, but I saw many good things come out of this crisis.

    1. We have to look and be aware - but the good has been there.

  2. Amen indeed! Preach it sister. It's amazing how profound
common sense sounds. It's taught so little nowadays.
I enjoy your blog, no matter the topic it's always interesting.

  3. Agree, As I age and semi retire with little income I have let go of the jealousy and envy I have had of others more fortunate than me, and the last year I have come to terms with enjoying every little bit of life. The small things like reading a book that I didn't
enjoy but was thought provoking, the pleasure of savouring a nice cup of tea each morning. LIVING well is going to be my 2021.

    1. YAY! Those tiny things are BIG! The smell of fresh cut grass and singing of a bird, because I can smell and hear!!! A warm bed...... there are just so many things that we take for granted. They are all wonderful!
Looking forward to a good year!

  4. I really wonder what exactly normal is. I do know that my normal is not what others would consider to be normal. Actually, other than the wearing of masks this past year has been pretty much my normal. I freeze, can, make sure my pantry is stocked, read, knit, sew, and have our boys come to visit. Not much changed this year, other than me reaching out to those in need.

    God bless.

    1. Jackie I am the same. I am pretty much a homebody any how so this year hasn't really been different, except like you said masks! Life hasn't changed a lot for me - I guess that shows we may fair better during hard times than most!
      Blessings

  5. Well said Cheryl. I agree with so much of what you said - I have been very pleasantly surprised with how well so many have coped and how so many of them have stepped up to help others. I just hope that we all remember these lessons as we move into 2021.

  6. This year did not bother me as much as it did others as I usually live this way on a regular basis. I stay home unless I need to buy groceries, I don't spend money to pass the time, I always plan ahead and have adequate supplies in my home, I always entertain myself and not depend on material things for entertainment, and I always try to help others. Maybe that is why this year has not bothered me. I do feel bad for the people who have lost their jobs and livlihood. But we all have to continue on being able to help ourselves and not bitter at what life has afforded us. Maybe living as a widow, I have learned just how precious life is and plan to enjoy it. Your positivity is wonderful and I am so glad you are coping. God Bless and Happy New Year!!!!

    1. We live so much the same. 2019 was a horrible year to me and nothing much could surpass that. I just try to make the best of any given situation. It seems many of us have been in training for this year for ages!!!!
      God bless.

  7. A wonderful post. My life didn’t change all that much except for being able to see my family and missing actual personal touch and hugs......that is the worse. I did go out occasionally and abiding by COVID protocols. I was content knowing that I could go and do things and had a choice. I did not like it when we were really closed down and restricted. I saw no reason why our local state parks were closed and we could not walk there or sit on a bench......but I got over this and moved on. Hopefully life will be able to open up so that peoples lives can get back to normal and kids to school, etc.
Happy New YearNd thank you for your insights and wisdom.

    1. So many of us have lived this quiet life for a while. We had some business that had to close and schooling was at home. We had no lock downs here - where you couldn't go out - we just used good judgement.
I do miss seeing a lot of the family and hugging. Eventually!
Stay safe my friend and thanks for being here.

  8. What is "normal, anyway? ha! The Urban Farmer and I are homebodies and the worst thing back in the late winter and spring was not being able to select our own groceries. Sounds like a minor problem to some people but we didn't have jobs to worry about or school age children in the home. These have certainly been trying times and I feel for the folks who have lost loved ones, jobs and businesses.

The Urban Farmer just listened to Jim on Fox59 weather and he said it will be 50 degrees tomorrow. We are having some strange weather. The chickens will be happy tho as three of them have been molting and have bare skin. Poor girls!

    Happy New Year!

  9. I did a comment yesterday but it must have gone off into cyber space somewhere. I have been accused of being a Pollyanna also. You know but whatever, got to have a positive outlook or what else is there? Love You.
