Happy Sunday to all. Happy Father's Day to all the dads out there (American Father's Day). This evening summer becomes official in the northern hemisphere. To think all this hotness has been spring!! LOL
Lightening bugs (fireflies) and hummingbirds are visiting a lot. I love seeing lightening bugs!
We had about 4 really nice days and I got a lot done outdoors. Then heat and humidity returned. There was quite a storm front that came through on Friday night. Luckily here, I only had rain and some downed branches. We got almost 3" of rain over night. Some areas got up to 7"! There was a lot of nasty stuff going on around the state - just thankful to have missed that.
Now the tulip tree leaves have started falling just in the past few days. They fall like it is fall for about a month! UGH - it sure makes a mess.
My west coast friends came in town and we got to visit on 2 different days and hopefully we get to get together again this coming week before they head out on their journey again. It was like sitting down and having conversation with friends I had sat with a million times. They came baring gifts - what a surprise. She made me a lovely afghan and other lovelies, home canned salmon and other surprises! We also went out to eat one evening. It was lovely.
Lilies and more lilies - they are going crazy! My week:
- Cut a lot of mint
- Finally got 'most' of the big flowerbed weeded. Oh my - what a job.
- Mowed and trimmed - front to back
- Power washed and power washed some more!!!!! Did the back of the house and the back of garage (both face N). The garage was awful - but now both are nice and white. It had been almost 3 years since I did it the last time. Power washing is addictive - you keep finding things to clean!!!!! I did a lot - still more to do. And YES - I did it all by myself!!!!!!! My arms and back were sure tired and I have been having hand cramps all week! LOL - but worth it.
- Did a couple small repair projects outdoors
- Had to wash windows after power washing
- I went to the feed store and got some bird seed and squirrel corn. I also got a new watering can - which has been needed for a while
- I started a butt end of Romain lettuce in water - it has grown and starting to get roots
- Ran to Kroger for salad supplies. I broke my rule and bought a watermelon already (seedless, nice size - 2.99). I lucked out - it is sweet and tasty
- I fried up a bunch of chicken pieces. I kept out enough for a couple of meals and the rest went into the freezer for homemade 'heat ad eat' chicken!
- Basics - cleaning, making tea, doing laundry - even fresh air some mornings
Meals this past week:
Corn on cob, grilled zucchini and fresh veggies
Cheese and crackers and fresh fruit (busy day)
Ham sandwich and bowl of soup beans (from freezer)
Double cheese burger (homemade) and chips
Cheese and tomato quesadilla
Mexican food and margarita (evening out)
Fried chicken and mixed fresh veggies with dressing
How was your week? Did you get any projects done? Any deals? What is happening in your area?
My garden has a grown a lot in the past few weeks - just starting to get some buds for things! How are your gardens doing?
I hope you all have a lovely, safe and healthy week.
Blessings from my humble little home to yours.
I will bless the Lord at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth. My soul makes its boast in the Lord; let the afflicted hear and be glad. O magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt His name together!
Psalms 34:1-3
Pressure washing is so satisfying. we have wooden porches and it cleans them right up. Your new afghan is beautiful. So many pretty colors.
ReplyDeleteIt is - things look all bright and new when you get done!
DeleteI love it - the colors are gorgeous!
I love power washing too but it is so hard on my right arm. We came home on Friday from two weeks away. It is good for my husband to get real rest for his brain injury several times each year. Now it is time to get back to work! Tropical depression Claudette the s going over us since late last night so we have had a ton of rain and it is quite chilly today.
ReplyDeleteIt does wear out your arms, back and hands!
DeleteGlad you got to get away and enjoy some rest and relaxation!!!
Oh stay safe - hope you don't get any damage. Will keep you in prayer.
The Afghan is very pretty. You’ve been busy. Weeding the garden would have done me in, and you pressure washed, too???you are tough!
ReplyDeleteGot to do what a girls got to do! LOL
DeleteYesterday and today I have done NOTHING!
The afghan is lovely! You have sweet friends.
ReplyDeleteYes, summer arrives here tonight and the forecast is for 3C(37F), can you believe it? My yard is fairly sheltered so I'm not covering anything but it really has been a weird spring.
Ah weeding, it just never ends does it? As someone in my FB gardening group said, a weed is just a plant...in a place you don't want it. I've never pressure washed anything but having seen it in action I'm sure it isn't the easiest task. Good on you for getting it done.
I do have sweet friends!
DeleteWOW that is pretty darn cold for the first night of summer. It has surely been crazy this year.
That is a good explanation for a weed! LOL
It is a job - but rewarding when when done.
Have a good week.
My mom always said that a weed was just a perennial gone amok.
DeleteThat's a good one too!
DeleteWow, that last garden pic is beautiful! Is that your garden? Your afghan is lovely ~ so soft and cozy-looking, too. I'm so glad you got to meet up with your on-line friends :) and had such a wonderful time.
ReplyDeleteHa! ha! about your "alien" watering can - I can definitely see it!
In spite of an "excessive heat warning" the past week, we've had lovely weather! If you'd like to see what I mean, just turn on the PGA golf tourney that's being played in San Diego right now :)
I bet you're so proud of how your house and garage look now that you've power-washed them. You've got muscles ;). Sorry about the hand cramps, though.
Bless you, Cheryl~
Thank you - that is part of the large flowerbed in my back. Tons of lilies, many haven't bloomed yet and echinacea to bloom and tons of phlox - not yet bloomed. It will be pretty when they bloom. I love purple flowers.
DeleteGlad you had lovely weather.
It does make me feel good to be getting some MUCH neglected things done. I just have to get busy and do it.
Blessings.
Forgot to mention how lucky/blessed you are to have lightening bugs there!!! My DH has never seen one :*(. Hope to remedy that one day :)
ReplyDeleteWOW - tonight they were just thick out in my back. I just figured they were every where. I learned something new.
DeleteYour new afghan is gorgeous! You are blessed with good friends. Alien watering can...funny! Power washers are a good thing. Gripping that wand and nozzle had to be hard on your hands as well as the rest of your body. We have one but it is not very powerful. One of the sheds needs to have all the green stuff blasted off it. Weeding goes on and on here on the Westside of Indy. Sounds like you are getting your beds cleaned out. Haven't seen any lightning bugs around here but we seldom go out in the yard after dusk. The Urban Farmer is very allergic to mosquito bites so it's best to avoid the creatures when you can. I think the first few days of the week are cooler.
ReplyDeleteI am blessed for sure. Such lovely people.
DeleteGlad to know I am not the only one who has/had green buildings!
I watch them out the window - I am not out after dark. You know mosquitos have not been around much here so far and that surprises me with the heat and rain. I guess I shouldn't brag - that always jinxes me!
Looking forward to those cooler days again.
I was trying to figure out why we have never pressure washed anything, then I remembered we only get 4 inches of rain per year.
ReplyDeleteWell I tell you if anyone ever got lost in my neighborhood, they could have at least told the direction of North!!! LOL
DeleteThat is the side that gets green.
It also really cleans dirt and washes away the discoloring on wood. You can make old wood look new again.
4 inches sure isn't much. WOW. We had 3" in Friday nights storm!
Glad you had a good time with your west coast friends, and on two different occasions no less. And that afghan is beautiful, gonna come in handy on those chilly nights. We spent the weekend just trying to stay cool. We're baking in this heat wave. Will be glad to see it go. I love your alien watering can. Hopefully he comes in peace. LOL
ReplyDeleteThanks. It sure is pretty and yes it will be warm.
DeletePretty darn hot here as well - looking forward to a cool down.
LOL - well the little alien says made in USA so I hope he comes in peace!!!
Love the afghan. What beautiful colors. Happy you had a good visit. We have a power washer too. I just need to get my act together and use it. lol. Take care.
ReplyDeleteThey are just lovely colors. So feminine.
DeleteIt really is addictive once you start cleaning - you just keep finding things to clean!
Glad you made it through the storms last night. The afternoon line that produced a lot of hail completely missed me. Last night, pup woke me up around 11:00 barking ferociously and then my NWS CODE RED weather alert went off and we ended up spending about 45 minutes in the lower level. All damage is north of me (storm track shifted more easterly and so we were spared any significant damage). You are definitely blessed to have such kind friends. Glad to know you had good times with them. I didn't get much of anything done last week with the heat and humidity, other than a thorough refrigerator clean-out. Plans this week include a thorough cleaning of my laundry area and reorganizing my supplies, and I need to get on my garage -- it's out of control, and I need to pull bins that haven't been touched since I moved here 5 years ago. Time to weed and donate.
ReplyDeleteGlad you didn't get damage. Storms can sure be scary no matter how many times you have them.
DeleteGood friends are a true blessing from God.
Good job on the thorough frig clean out. I really need to do that again - so many partial containers in there!
Sounds like you have good and productive plans this week as well. Staying in and working is best in this heat and humidity.
Take care.
Lovely afgan, so happy you got to spend time with friends, and power washing is addictive, I love it!
ReplyDeleteThank you. Friends are such a gift.
DeleteIt is very addictive!!!!!
That is one of the tasks Harvey finally accomplished this weekend along with finally washing the windows today. The house is now squeaky clean on the outside.
ReplyDeleteOhhh, such a beautiful afghan.
God bless.
It sure looks so pretty when all clean and bright. It is quite a job, but worth every bit of it.
DeleteIt is pretty, isn't it?
Blessings
I have your alien watering can's blue twin. He said, "Take me to your water barrel!" It's an invasion! LOL!
ReplyDeleteOh that is funny. I guess they did have red and blue as well - not sure why I picked green. Well mine sits right next to the water barrel - hope it is happy!!!!
