  1. Just a tip...if anyone is making spice blends, such as taco seasoning, look for bulk sources of spices. They literally cost pennies on the dollar. You can buy as much or AS LITTLE as you wish. (Bulk does not necessarily mean large quantities). In the western US, you will find bulk spices at Winco and Fred Meyer (Kroger) stores. I have also seen spices at Smith's (also Kroger) but I don't know if all Smith's stores sell them. Fred Meyer and Smith's are in the natural foods section and all Wincos have large bulk foods departments. Do not be put off by the posted prices, which are shown in pounds. You will only be buying a tiny fraction of an ounce, and you'll be spending pennies.

Another place to look is in the ethnic foods aisle in many supermarkets. Mexican and Asian spices are usually packaged in cellophane envelopes and found hanging above the canned goods. You will be surprised how many spices (things you use every day) are categorized as ethnic.

At Winco, you will find spice jars for sale underneath the spices themselves. When my mother-in-law died, I poured out all of her stale spices, washed the jars and now refill them in bulk.

    1. My Kroger's don't sell bulk stuff - I wish they did. Ethnic stores are most often where I get a good deal on spices. So much cheaper.
I used to have a health food store close by that sold spices in bulk - you are right - small amounts don't cost a lot.

      Thanks for the tips!!!

  3. I especially like the cream of anything soup. So many bad ingredients in most canned products. We have purchased bulk spices at a Indian grocery that used to be on 38th Street. There is one just down the road from us now. Spices make all the difference in cooking.

    1. The cream of soup - is great! You can make any kind you want - chicken, broccoli, asparagus, cheese, anything.
I go to a a Hispanic store here on the south side (actually a couple good ones).
I agree - seasoning can change everything.

  4. I have made my own condensed milk for years now and will never buy another can.

I also make my own condensed tomato soup. Hmmm, so good with home grown tomatoes.

I need to try the onion soup one. I was worried that there would be too much salt but your recipe doesn't have any.

    God bless.

    1. Oh, I hope you do. Please feel free to go back to the beginning - we have been having fun for a long time.
You have a great weekend as well and stay safe.

I love my country, but despise this fireworks weekend. It scares so many animals and people. I wish we could silently celebrate!

  9. I need to try that French dressing. My boss made some dressing that had catchup and onion and oil...I tried it just to be polite but was hooked. I did not ask her for the recipe then. Just always meant to but by the time I remembered she could not remember what I was talking about. I just absolutely loved it.
