Happy Sunday to all - where ever you may be!
Did you change your clocks? UGH! I sure didn't get that extra hour sleep that "they" keep telling us about. If you have pets - odds are you didn't either!!! Amazing how they can't read a clock - breakfast time is breakfast time! My internal clock works that way too. I wake up at the same time (even if Coogy didn't pat my face & give kisses) - and according to the clock it was an hour earlier!
My biggest gripe is that it will now get dark at an earlier hour. Not a fan!!!
We have had some pretty chilly temps this past week. Got that heavy frost and first freeze of the year. They trees are turning. That is many of them are - I still see so much green. I have one tree that has colored leaves and my maple is as green as can be. All the pretty flowers are now gone.
It does appear that there will be warmer temps this coming week. Doesn't look like any lows in the 30's for a week or so. That is fine with me - every day that we put off winter is one less in my book!!!
Another quiet week here for the most part.
- I did go out the first of week (warmer) and got all the heat stuff hooked up for the cats. Also got the water bowls plugged in - so no freezing.
- Worked on clearing more of the garden stuff out
- Got one rain barrel emptied and put away for the winter, I will do the 2nd one this week. It is up against the house so nothing froze
- I did run to feed store and got bird seed and squirrel corn for the next while
- While out, I stopped at the bank and got enough allowance and holiday money to last me into the new year
- Across from feed store is a super Kroger - ran in to get OTC meds. They had a B1G1 on herbs and vitamins. I also got a couple bottles of artificial tears eye drops, my Restful Legs (for RLS) , and got 1,000 count of Tylenol and Ibuprofen each for 9.99. I think I am good with all OTC stuff for quite a while. I didn't buy groceries, but looked and they had a boatload of turkeys. MEIJER has turkeys this week for .33/lb. (limit 2). I sure wish I had more room. Can't buy lunchmeat that cheap.
- Froze 2 meals of chili for another time
- My neighbor mowed my front yard and outback for probably last time. He only mowed to mulch leaves. I will do my back this week probably
- Started pulling out fabrics to use for kids quilts/blankies
- No groceries purchased
- Kept seeing a Popeye's ad all week - was in the mood. Made my own less the biscuits. I am sure it was better than store bought!
- All the normal stuff - laundry in cold, hanging most clothes to air dry, minimal heat, cooking from home, using Soda Stream & juice, using leftovers......
Meals this past week:
Chili mac with cheese
Sauteed Brussel sprouts with bacon/onion and a salad
Chili and crackers & butter
Fish stick and fresh veggie soft tacos (used lettuce, toms, and sliced radish, cheese and cocktail sauce)
Baked chicken, red beans & rice and home canned slaw
Beans & rice, sausage patties and sliced toms & radish
Mex. chicken & spaghetti (from freezer), garlic toast and salad
SNACKS: Fruit, banana smoothie, cheese slices & crackers
How was your week? Love hearing what everyone has been doing.
I hope you all have a lovely and safe and healthy week ahead. Keep preparing, playing and praying.
Blessings from my humble little home to you and yours!
So Hubby set the clocks back last night around ten and then we were like, okay it's only 9 PM and we can stay up! Silly old people. I woke up at 5:45 just starving but went back to sleep. I love buttered crackers! I grew up eating them that way. I made oven fried chicken one night. It was so good! Our hickory trees are glowing gold now. We have tulip poplars in our woods. I need to look for them. The prettiest leaves I have seen were in the Walmart parking lot. LOL.
ReplyDeleteThe last of the plants have been put to bed for the winter and I took some cuttings of the tomato plants which have now rooted in a glass on the kitchen window sill. We will see how that goes.
Earlier in the week I mentioned the free coffee and iBotta items we got. Well yesterday I got up and opened the iBotta app and I had a $15 rebate on a whole turkey. So we went to Walmart and picked up a Butterball turkey for 57 cents! There were also 4 more freebies on the app. After we were home and I uploaded my receipts I cashed out another $32. We have gotten back $60 in two weeks now. I feel blessed! And somehow we got that gobbler in the freezer! Publix has turkeys next week for .39 but I do not like their turkeys. Likely all the rest of the stores will require a $35 purchase to get the low sale price. Then I wonder if it was worth it and if I really saved any money.
It is supposed to be 74 here on Tuesday and then back to cold. I am going to change my menu plan to a grill out night. Have a good week!
Mom always served buttered crackers with chili and that is still a favorite. Chicken must have been the thing this week!
DeleteWOW good for you on all the FREE goodies. That is wonderful. Meijer has the cheapest turkeys and you don't have to have a minimum purchase. Just a limit of 2 turkeys.
Spending $35 now - sure wouldn't take long!
I think tomorrow is upper 60's - then a bit cooler rest of the week - but not bad.
Hope you have another great week!
Just been kind of hanging out this past week. DH has been hunting. It's over now, YEA. He did get a little forked horn about 60lbs of meat that he shared with his hunting buddy. I cleaned my freezer and found things I need to use up. We went to a Meat sale yesterday in a small town about 30 miles from here. Definitely got some good deals. Sometimes I don't know if it's really a good thing or not taking into consideration the travel time. But oh well. The weather has turned cold here 36 this morning. 41 for the high today. Do you have a recipe that you use for the Red Beans and Rice dish? I started my no sew blanket but had help from the kitties so I put it away for the time being. I'll finish it up this week. Have a blessed day.
ReplyDeleteSo glad he got a deer. Nice to have shared. If you got really good deals - I would say it was worth the drive. 30 miles isn't that far.
DeleteWOW that is cold for you and your area. It is really pretty here today, a little chill but sunny.
This time I just used boxed red beans and rice (like Zatarain's)sp. It is really zingy and doesn't make too much. I will look up my own red beans & rice recipe again. I know it was posted on here a long time back. I will check for you.
Kitties do love to help with blanket making!!!! I have made several over the years and seemed there was always a cat right in the middle of everything. LOL - They just want to help Mommy!!!!!
Have a fantastic day.
Thanks for your kind words on Sasha's passing. I know that time will help temper the sadness, and I'll be able to remember him with joy of having him be in our lives for so long.
ReplyDeleteI've read a few blogs where the writers have mentioned red beans and rice. I've never seen it in a box here but I've found a recipe and will add the ingredients to my grocery list for next week. I so enjoyed it when we were in New Orleans...oh my, it was three years ago. Now that brings back wonderful memories.
Take care, stay well.
Oh you are welcome. It is so difficult to lose a pet - they are our babies. They give us wonderful memories to hold n our hearts.
DeleteZatarain's brand is really good and ALDI sells their own brand. I love making it from scratch, but it makes a bunch.
I bet New Orleans was a grand time. I have never been, but have heard many a fun story about it.
lad to give you a fun thought to reminisce about!!!
Have a good week.
Cheryl, can I just say I LOVE your Sunday Roundups? I really, really do. And yes, I remembered we "fell back" in the middle of the night, but (like you) my body clock takes awhile to make the adjustment. Thankfully, this should be the last year of it as we move to AZ next spring.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of thankful, I spent a lot of this week focused on the countless things I have to be grateful for. Including easy to throw together soups using leftover meats, veggies and frozen (thawed) homemade broth; a big pot with a loaf of bread provides several hot & healthy meals for us.
Glad to hear there are plenty of turkeys in your area and at low per pound prices. Sorry you didn't have room in the freezer to tuck a few into it, but it sounds like you're pretty well covered! --Elise
P.S. Don't you just love fall color in the landscape?
Thanks! What a neat thing to hear.
DeleteI sure wish we would stop doing this. Out state govt. talks about it every year and that is as far as it goes. I really like Daylight Savings Time myself.
We should be grateful for all those kinds of things. It is so wonderful that you can go in and find this and that and make wonderful meals. It sounds scrumptious.
I wish I had room - but heck it's just me - so I have more than enough here.
The colors of fall are beautiful. I do love them and the fresh brisk air. Not too fond of what comes after!!! LOL
Have a great week.
Loved your prayer and the little pictured prayer :D
ReplyDeleteThank you. The picture took me back to my childhood!
DeleteI wish everyone could get along and be nice -- seems so easy!
Have a great week
The prayer is perfect! Thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteButtered crackers with chili! So yummy! We had a Mississippi pot roast for the Sabbath and have about half of it left. Will make burrito bowls tomorrow and I have plenty of rice left for the bowls.
That is an excellent price for a turkey, if a person had any room in the freezer.
Not crazy about the time change either. We went to bed too early last night and got up at dark o'clock.
Hope Abi and Remi are doing well. They are in my daily prayers.
Mmmm the pot roast sounds good. As do the bowls - I love bowl meals.
DeleteThe days seem sooooo long now. UGH
Yes that is an excellent price - like the old days! And people were worried!
The girls are doing well thank you. Remi had her first sleep away (for fun - not a hospital) the other day with her grammy. I guess she had a ball. It is amazing that when Cincy figured out they were being treated all wrong - how things changed. They still have medical issues of course, but daily life is good and they are happy babies. Thank you for your prayers!!!!
Sounds like a good week for you, Cheryl. Turkey for 33 cents a pound is a steal! You’re right you can’t buy lunch meat that cheaply. I didn’t know they made plug in water bowls for cats. That is a brilliant idea!
ReplyDeleteJust like the prices back in the olden days!!!
DeleteYes, I have 3 electric water bowls for the cats and an electric birdbath. Got to make sure the babies have water. I think I got them all at Menard's over the years.
Have a good week
Setting the clocks back didn't bother us here; we all actually felt well-rested, which is a rarity for us! It probably helped that we had really gorgeous weather this weekend.
ReplyDeleteIt's been a productive week so far for me. Let's hope that holds out the rest of the week. :)
I am glad you didn't feel the time change in a negative way. It would be cool for me, if I didn't have pets who also have their own internal clocks! I guess if they could tell time - it would be better. LOL
DeleteSo happy you are having a good week. I got a lot done myself today! It was sunny and warmer!
Hope your good week continues!
I have more or less been doing what I usually do from week to week. Though this week I got to process pumpkin in the oven. Will never go back to the way I used to do so.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Oh how cool. Glad you found a new skill and that you love it so much. YAY
DeleteHave a great week.
Girl I am always amazed at what you get done in a week!
ReplyDeleteI'm feeling more myself now. I see the surgeon in a couple weeks to be released. I've been knitting knitting knitting socks for Christmas gifts.
Blessings,
Laura of Harvest Lane Cottage
Thanks. II don't thin I do that much considering it is over a whole week.
DeleteYou stay very busy and I bet you are making some great gifts.
Blessings abound - so happy this ordeal is about behind you.
