Momma said......

Yes she did.  Momma said there would be days like this!  What a couple of days I spent at the first of this week!!!!!  I am laughing now.  Shoot, I just keep thinking how much worse it could have been!!!!!

I had 2 eye appointments scheduled this week.  Specialist and regular eye doc.  I decided Monday morning to get a couple errands ran before going to that 1:45 appt. at the specialist.
Well, I go out and car fires up and off I go.  I get a whiff of gasoline.  Keep going thinking it was the car shop on the corner.  Nope the smell does not dissipate.  I go to the bank - remember I have been trying to go there for a couple weeks!  I park where there are no stains on the pavement - get out and see gas dripping near the back end!!!  Well crap.
I go in and do my business (come out and it had stopped).  Decide to go the feed store just down the street.
Get there and dripping again. Well crap again!
I figured it was only leaking when vehicle was on - not when off.

I called my neighbor to see if he could take me to the doctor once I get home (fingers crossed).  He is out of town.  Call my brother, figuring he was probably busy - but he was available.  He only lives about 10 minutes away.
So off I go to get home.  Praying every inch I drove, that I could get home safely.  Just thinking, please don't let someone throw a cigarette out their window or something.
I MADE IT!  Thank you Jesus.

Made it to the specialist and brother got a nap!!!!!  He slept in the car, while I was in there!  LOL
Good news - I was released as I have done perfectly with all after surgery stuff.  YAY

By now, the neighbor is back and he sees the problem and it is beyond what he can do as it needs to be on a lift to get to - plus all is rusty under there.

He said he would take me to the appt. the Tuesday to the regular eye doc.  This is located in WM center.
We go and I get tested.  More good news - my distance vision is 20/20!!!!!!!!  I have never had that since I was a small child!  I did order progressive lenses (bifocals) for moderate close up and very close reading.  All good.

He says do some Christmas shopping if you want.  Well I did find 2 gifts and I did splurge and buy myself 2 'gifts'.  I never buy myself anything.  I got a heavy flannel shirt - have always wanted one and have never had one.  I also got a new G. Foreman grill - smaller with removeable grates for easy cleaning.  I had an original and it was so hard to clean.  I like the drill flavor now and then and have no grill.
Anyway, I just can't shop with someone else.  I like to wonder and look and decide when I see what speaks to me.

Get home, make an appointment with the mechanic and call AAA to tow my car.  I call AAA and explain the problem.  They say I have to call 911 (fire) and get clearance to move vehicle to make sure it is safe to transport.  HUH?  Never heard this before.  Well, I did and they come flying down the road, sirens blaring!!!!!  GEESH.  I explain what was going on - and he said "we can't do anything".  It isn't leaking at the moment and there is no fire.  I profusely apologize for bothering them.
Call AAA back and explain it all again (different person) - he said that having to call fire was crazy - it wasn't leaking and tow drivers know how to handle that kind of stuff!   He got me laughing and said - good job getting it home safely.
FINALLY tow driver shows up - knows just how to handle the problem - no big deal!!!!!!
So my vehicle is at the shop.  Hope they fix anything that looks suspicious - as the thing is 20 years old.
OH MY!!!!!

I post this to show - I have good people in my life.  I think we all do - if we just look around and pay attention (you don't always know them).  AND things could have been so much worse!!!!!!!  I am safe - the vehicle is safe - it is getting fixed - oh, and the squirrels have corn!!!!!!!

There is this little voice in my head - that says "you needed to get off the road".  "You could have involved in something worse".   "What if it had been frigid out?" (It was in 50's and 60's).
Anything could have changed and who knows.
I do believe things happen when they do and as they do for a reason.

So when those really bad days happen - just remember - it could be worse!  You made it through.
And then sit back and LAUGH!  Sometimes we just have to laugh and go on.
We are protected - I truly believe.

SO, today I am home and doing home stuff!  Maybe tomorrow and maybe Thursday - who knows.  I just know I am safe and have a warm home and plenty to keep me busy!  The rest can wait.

Don't take stuff too seriously - just go with the flow.  **IT happens sometimes.
Que sera sera!!!!!

Have a blessed day and remember to LAUGH a little!

  1. Glad it all worked out in the end. I always remind myself and my husband when things go wrong that it could ALWAYS be worse. You just have to roll with it.

  2. I went to IKEA yesterday, took me an hour on the (just one) bus to get there, coming home it took 4.25 hours and required 2 buses, 2 trams and a hefty walk! I can tell you, I was glad to get home.
There certainly are days like that, glad yours turned out ok in the end.
I bought a sandwich toaster/waffle maker/ grill with removable plates only last week. I have been pleasantly surprised by how little electricity it uses, less than the toaster. The removable plates were the clincher, it just makes it so much easier to clean.

    1. OH my gosh!! What a mess getting home you had! I sure hope you didn't have your hands full of packages too. I bet couch looked good.
That was my whole reason for buying - the removeable plates!

  3. That was quite the adventure, Cheryl. So glad it worked out okay in the end. And I'm thrilled with the results of your eye surgery!

Yes, people often come into our lives at just the perfect moment. Sometimes briefly. Always to be appreciated. For those (yesterday) who mentioned working for USPS, I've a long standing habit of leaving baked treats in the mailbox periodically, just to let the postal workers know we appreciate them. Especially this time of year.

    1. Elise...that is do special you do that for the postal workers. A thank you even if just verbal...and that is sufficient...makes you feel appreciated! So many professions do things for us in our lives and saying thank you makes the day for the person doing the work. Thank you for being so kind! I come from a postal family...father, husband, brother and myself. We all appreciate or appreciated all the kindnesses we received!

    2. It was an adventure - more than I even listed!!! A few turns and twists in there! LOL
We had the same postman for years before he retired. He also delivered my workplace. He was always given a nice GC and hand warmers - he was a great guy. I am still friends with him.
We should be kind to all those who have service jobs - they do so much for us all.

    3. Linda, as I've told our most recent mail carrier, "Sometimes you just need some cookies. Or a muffin or two."

  4. Oh my goodness, gasoline dripping out of the tank! Why on earth did the AAA rep think you needed the fire department? Hope it is nothing major.

Woohoo on your eye exam! Cataract surgery makes such a huge difference and is not to be feared.

Gonna be cold today. However I will take the sunshine!

    1. Donna, it's frigid here, too. I'm so glad we have sun. That will help warm it up a little.

    2. Yes, it dripped while on. Don't ask me - the fireman said in all his years he had never heard of someone having to call for that! I guess they figure if dripping while being towed it would be a hazard.
Yep, glad that all went down earlier and not today! Baby it is cold outside.

I even talked a lady out being so scared on Monday. She was like me at first - terrified - and was waiting to go downtown for surgery. We talked and she said she felt so much better! Paying it forward.

  6. Cheryl, what a couple days you've had! Glad it all ended safely for you!! Hoping your vehicle's repair is simple and inexpensive.
You are right...we all have people...angels...in our lives. Some we know, some just pass through. So glad they were there for you.
You are such a ray of sunshine for us all...even in life's difficulties. Thanks very much!

    1. It was something! I hope they fix it quickly - but whatever it takes is OK. I won't complain. I am just thankful it all worked out.
Angels - yes - they are everywhere.
      Aaah thank you.

  7. You certainly have a far better attitude than I would have!! I would've had a major meltdown lol! I used up all my hope and patience on my family and was left with some kind of twisted PTSD. I don't say that jokingly, I'm serious. I totally and completely melted down at my last call for jury duty in L.A. I got called far from home- if you don't know, L.A. County is way too big. It took me 2 nightmarish hours to get there and the morning spiraled from there. I'll spare you the story, but in the end, I was in the courtroom, I couldn't stop shaking, and when the judge called my name, I literally burst into uncontrollable sobs.
She excused me but I had to wait about 2 hours before I felt safe to drive home. It was so embarrassing. Then I had an even worse 3 hr. drive home! Gah, what a bad day!

Cheryl, I hope your car is fixable and back in your hands soon. I'm pretty sure you had an angel on your shoulder directing traffic!! I admit that I laughed when I read about the fire truck with sirens!! I have never heard of that before!!! 🚒 🚒.

    1. Oh my goodness. That sounds awful. I gotcalled to report once - I didn't want to do it. So, I just answered the questions they asked - the way they wouldn't like to hear - BOOM - your excused!!!!!!! LOL
Glen got chosen for a murder trial once way back in the day.

Oh it is fixable - just may cost a little. Leaking fuel line and whatever else needs updated! Yeah, I wasn't laughing when I heard the sirens coming - oh my. I was kind of embarrassed. But they were very nice!

    2. Oh, I wouldn't mind serving here at all. Even though our county seat is 20 miles of nothing from us, at least it's not 10 million cars of crazy and irate! And the court employees aren't mean!
We've both been called here, but never had to go in. I'm not sure I'd be a good juror. I'm too cynical and untrusting. I wouldn't want me lolol.

    3. Cheryl, I did have an odd experience at that L.A. jury duty. It wasn't long after 9/11 and security to get in the courthouse was tight. Really tight. I had some stitching with me and brought only a pair of preschool scissors. If you've ever seen them, you know they're just one level above gnawing something!! Well, they set off the beeper and they made me toss them. They were unsympathetic to my stitching project.
While I'm putting my coat back on, the lady behind me goes through and her bag comes out the x-ray in front of me. Sticking out are two giant wooden knitting needles. Like a foot long! I said, "Wait a minute! How come Buffy the Vampire Slayer isn't having to throw out her wooden stakes?!" The guard guy snaps at me, "They're not on the list!". Then the guy behind her had to toss his nail clippers! That did not improve my foul mood lol!

    4. Yeah, I remember going in a govt. building after that and was told nothing and I mean NOTHING metal other than keys - no nail files, clippers, small tape measures, nothing. That is surprising that the knitting needles got through.

One day - it will happen!

  10. Something very similar happened to me this last early summer. Something about a pump in the gas tank and then they found it was rusted around the gas tank. They were able to patch it back together and told me IF I would have had to have a new gas tank it was $1200 just for the part. my vehicle is 21 years old I really did want to sink that much money into it. I hope your repair is easy and reasonable in cost. Staying home is so much cheaper LOL

    1. Well, I have regularly fixed things that have gone wrong - basically just maintenance. It sure is better than the price of a new one! You are right - for me staying home is cheaper, as I do not shop on line! LOL
