Weekly Wrap-Up 1/3

Good morning to all and well wishes in this brand new year!  2021!!!!!
This sure is hard to believe that we are here in the now and it is 2021!  I remember being in grade school in math class and being asked to figure how old we would be in 2000.  The answer I wrote was "dead"!!!!  LOL.  Being 10 - it sure didn't seem possible to be THAT old!  Look at us now.  Let's just say I am grateful and blessed!

We ended the year with some snow here - woke to snow on new years eve.  Not a lot - and goodness gracious - it was perfect snow in my eyes.  It was only on the grass!!!!!!   Woke up NY morning to ice and more ice.  Then as it warmed, it turned to rain and rained all day.  Last night was suppose to bring snow, but happily they were mistaken for my area.
This coming week should be pretty decent weather wise.  Each day is just one closer to spring!

I had family come in last Sunday and that was lovely.  It was great to spend time with them.  I got to see more family on NY day.  Still haven't seen them all - but slowly working on it.
I have received so many lovely things from nieces and nephews!  My goodness - one would think they loved their Auntie!!!!
I got bath items, kitchen items, a pretty sweater, a coupon book, family pictures, candles, many useful items.  I am so blessed with such a wonderful and loving family.

LOVE this t-shirt I got.  Boy is that a true saying!!!!!

My week:
  • Great family days!  Best part of the week
  • Using up leftovers and freezing those I got tired of
  • Recycled all tissue paper and pretty gift bags to use next year.
  • Cleaned the house, put away MOST Christmas decorations, and got all the laundry done - to start the year out clean and fresh.
  • Stayed away from stores and shopping - NO money spent (only left to go to brothers house NY day)
  • Kept the fronts to the cards received.  I will use these as 'list' cards.  It is always nice to have something pretty to make lists on.  I have tons of fronts from years past that are being used as gift tags.
The backs are plain - perfect for list making.  Pretty fronts for smiles!
  • Binge watched Twilight Zone marathon and recoded several I had never seen.  I watched one that was disturbing as it was so realistic.  Season 2 Episode 24 - Obsolete Man (if you can find online).  It was how government had determined so many obsolete - elderly, handicapped, religious, and those who disagreed with the govt.  Libraries didn't exist any longer and the govt. had determined there was NO God.  Anyone determined to be "obsolete" was publicly destroyed.  I know this sounds disturbing - but it also seems all too REAL today.  Sure gives one something to ponder.
  • Watched lots of You Tube videos - just keeping the week quiet and slow
  • Read some & took a couple naps!
Meals this past week:
Family get together and variety of goodies was provided - all from things I had on hand
Meatball/cheese sandwich and chips
Sloppy pasta and salad  (mac n cheese mixed with leftover sloppy Joe)
Long grain rice/mushroom soup (from freezer) and crackers and cheese
Chicken tamales over rice
NY dinner at brother/SIL home - corned beef/cabbage/black eyed peas - all for luck!  Lots of other goodies as well
Homemade Reuben sandwich  - (had everything on hand)
Super easy and filling dinner.  Tamales (canned) over rice.  Very tasty indeed.

I ended the year quietly and started the new year the same.  I still have a couple of 'holiday' gatherings to attend at some point in time - whenever they get scheduled.
I look forward to the new year and PRAY it is a good year for all.  I see great things happening in my mind and hope they come to be for all.
Did you have a quiet new year?  How is your weather?

Lets all get geared up for a fun and informative 2021 - teaching and learning.  I am anxious to see what everyone brings to the table!

Blessings from my humble little home to yours.

This verse of scripture - should be our quote for the new year.  I know it will be mine!!!!!  God has this - have faith.
Blessings to you all.

  2. Sounds like you have been having a great time with family. I am so glad! I had no idea you could buy tamales in a can. I have got to look for those the next time I go to the store.

    1. Yes, you can - and they are surprisingly tasty!! I have purchased in a jar before (years ago), but found these and gave them a try. I will buy again.
I have truly enjoyed seeing family - it has been so long.
      Have a good week.

  3. Oh I love those tamales too and the sauce is so good with the rice! I know that I have found them at the Dollar Tree in our area and I stock up on them when I see them. I am beyond thrilled that your nieces and nephews spoiled you...you deserve to be. :) Much love to you!

    1. The sauce is exceptional with rice. The tamales have kind of a creamy taste to me. Love them.

  4. Ended the year quietly and began the new year quietly. We're okay with that. Glad you got lots of nice gifts and love from your family. Our weather is dry. Would sure love a little bit of snow. Stay safe!

    1. Seems many ended and started quietly. Nothing wrong about that - just calming. I know a few people who love snow and never get it - I have spent my whole life around it and just don't care for it at this stage in life.
Take care and have a great week!

  5. We had a quiet NY too. I love it though as I am an introvert! lol. The weather here is chilly, cold to me, but I am sure you northerners would trade me anytime. Florida. We have had a little rain, but need more. We celebrated my daughters birthday last night with her hubby and 2 boys, me and my brother and then everyone went back home. It was real nice and fun!
This week I hope to get some sewing done! I have a huge pillow to do, a quilt to bind and some pillowcases to make. All pretty easy, just busy work.

  6. Ended the year quietly, recuperating from covid. Hubby and I both had it, but he is a few days ahead of me so has done so much to make me feel cared for! I’ve missed seeing family, but hope to do that in the new year. Our used rv is raring to go, lol. Glad you could have some family days!

    1. Glad you are both recuperating. Sorry to hear you went through it.

  7. You have lots of family and it appears that they were all good to you! Yeah, this weather is crazy and apparently a lot of places in the US have the same. Kent Rollins is a cowboy cook on YouTube. We really enjoy watching him although a lot of what he cooks we wouldn't (especially in those quantities). Check him out...he is entertaining.

  8. Glad to see there is someone else that doesn't just eat corned beef once a year! We buy all we can afford when it goes on sale after St. Patrick's day and use it all through the year. Wouldn't be able to afford it otherwise!

    1. I love corned beef. It has always been a family thing for NY day my whole life. Then on day 2 I have to have a Rueben sandwich!! I love Rueben's.
Yes getting it on sale is the way to go.

  9. Dh had NYE day off and he did end of year farm stuff, including buying a new-to-him hay rake. Paid off bills and all the things he does so we'll have all the tax deductions we need. We both had NYD off and I spent it in my jammies most of the day. I needed a quiet day. We did have a date that evening and went to the grocery store for produce.
Saturday we installed our new ceiling fan in the kitchen and I cleaned the house well. Sunday we were home and ds2 brought the Littles out after nap time. GS2 went out in the snow with Pappo but the girlies were smart and they staying inside with Grammie and we played with the play kitchen and food.
It's now a new workweek and I'll be taking down the tree and packing away the decorations for another year.

But go HERE and scroll down to see another use for cards...
