Happy Sunday everyone! Hope you are well and safe. Well - fall seems to have finally arrived in my area! We had rain and more rain this week - and then a cold front BLEW through (it was windy). Yesterday and today having highs in the 60;s WITH SUN!!!!!! YAY for sun!
This morning it was 40* outside - our coldest temp in months and months! 66* in the house. I just put on layers - no heat yet for me. Layers, socks and slippers!!! That did it!
They say this has been the wettest and the warmest October in over a century for our area! WOW!
Those volunteer tomatoes (cherry) are setting fruit! LOL - Who knows what may happen. I suppose it will get cold before they ripen. I have a clematis re-growing and blooming AGAIN this week. No real color yet here - a lot of leaves fell with the rain and wind - but no significant color yet other than green.
Blackie is doing much better. Pretty much back to his old self. He is eating good again. We are done with taking pain meds (stopped after Tues.). He still isn't doing a lot of dry food unless I moisten it - but he is really eating well. He is now sleeping the the insulated dog (cat) house. For some reason he hasn't warmed back up to the greenhouse to sleep. At least he is going in there to eat now! I figure something really startled or scared him in there when he felt bad. Time will tell.
My week:
- Started week by cleaning up and out the greenhouse - all swept and all situated for kitties - sprayed natural flea spray
- Changed out the comforter on bed - and recently added a throw for extra warmth
- By chance and LUCK last Saturday I found out the charger for my old cell phone ALSO works on my new phone. When I went to vet I realized my phone was about dead - and tried the old charger that was in the car. BOOM it worked! That is great, as I only got one with this phone - not 2
- Kitchen faucet became super loose for some reason - got under sink and fixed that
- Rescued the end of another candle (that I loved) to use in my melt pots
- I used leftovers in many ways this week. No waste
- Stayed home this entire week - no spending
- Picked 18 lbs. of green tomatoes (only half of plants so far). Wrapped in paper in basement. May think about making relish - not sure. More to pick
- Used portable dehumidifier water in laundry
- NO heat or AC this week
- Made a yummy milkshake with fruit on hand. Used banana, grapes, OJ, ice and milk. Super tasty and a nice treat
- Put together new bottles of dish soap (with vinegar added) and shampoo (just watered down)
- Used some of my rain water on house plants
- Washed mirrors and inside of windows
- Just doing all the same stuff we all do.
Meals this past week:
Chicken strips, potato salad and sliced tomatoes
Taco salad
Broccoli cheese soup (from freezer) and grilled cheese
Chili Mac - used some of leftover taco/bean mixture with added crushed tomatoes over pasta
Open face taco/bean meat sandwich topped with tomato and cheesy potatoes
Cheese potatoes, small fried green tomato (YUM) and smoked sausage
Beef/bean/potato skillet (used all leftovers together) in tortilla wraps
(Froze leftover beef/bean/pot mix)
SNACKS - fruit, juice, cinnamon toast, fruity shake, homemade salsa and a few chips
How was your week? Is it feeling like fall yet? Are gardens done or still producing? Any great deals this week? Inquiring minds want to know!!!!!!
I hope you all have a fantastic week and stay healthy and safe and frugal.
Blessings from my humble little home to yours.
Keep your tongue from evil, and your lips from speaking deceit. Depart from evil, and do good; seek peace, and pursue it.
Psalms 34: 13-14
Not two minutes ago, I remarked I was cold. So, the heat goes on for just a few minutes. Are the tomatoes in the greenhouse? You are going to have fresh tomatoes at Christmas!
ReplyDeleteThat is funny - I will get there too.
DeleteNo the tomatoes are still outside. I have had tomatoes for the holidays before - so maybe!
Trying again. Silly phone.
ReplyDelete39 all the way down here in SC this morning. Brrr....
It was chilly for sure. Doesn't look like 30's in my area for this week at least!
DeleteThe leaves are dropping daily here and we've had frost every night for the last three or four days. I appreciate the furnace kicking in a couple of times in the morning to take the chill off, but have been able to open the sunroom in the afternoon - it brings the warmth into the house.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear that Blackie is feeling better and has chosen a place to sleep.
Take care, stay well.
I think once frost hits here - the leaves will change. It won't be long.
Deletewe will see how it goes on furnace - never know! Sun sure helps warm things up.
Thanks! He is getting back to normal.
Have a good one.
Here near CA's central coast, fall is bipolar. We have had a few nights of frost warnings, though. Glad to hear Blackie is on the mend. I'm wearing my "Cat Lady" tee today ($4.99 at TJ Maxx).
ReplyDeleteIt's been a quiet week of a lot of staying home. Hubby and I did get our flu shots and picked up a big bag of Halloween candy on sale + coupon. Neighbors are putting up decorations, so we hope there'll be a lot of kids this year. Also got a great price on Hallmark Christmas cards; not as good as post holiday pricing, but not bad and I liked the verse. --Elise
That is pretty wild that you get such a variety. Oh, "cat lady" shirt - I need one! LOL
DeleteI think I will skip Halloween again this year. Just not much activity in our neighborhood any more - no littles to speak of - just a couple neighbors. I will get their kids something. It got scary when I became alone - so I just stopped.
I was thinking about addressing my cards the other day - to be ahead of the game!
Much to be said for quiet weeks!
Sounds like a good week for you, Cheryl. I’m glad Blackie is feeling better and eating again. It’s cold here this morning too, so I am sitting here with a blanket, which feels good. Your meals sound good to me. Using up leftovers is the name of the game. Lol
ReplyDeleteThanks. He is back out doing his walk-abouts at night! My neighbor has a camera out back for his yard and he sees him walking down his back walk each night now! Crazy boy.
DeleteYou and I cook a lot alike. I sure hate waste. I will eat it or freeze it - just not waste it!
I have a lot of green tomatoes as well. Thought about trying this recipe.

That is not a bad idea. I thought about slicing and freezing some. I used to can them for frying - not sure if I feel like doing that or not.
DeleteTHANKS
It is nice to hear that Blackie is eating well once again. I think you are right and something scared him in the greenhouse.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Yeah - he is finally going in to eat - but not sleep. I guess time will tell.
DeleteBlessings.
We had a sudden change in temps! It was 42 one morning but we have yet to turn on the heat. This afternoon turned off to be pretty nice.
ReplyDeleteProbably should put the storm windows down. Did get the summer clothes put away for both of us and the fall/winter things out.
So glad Blackie is eating well. Something sure spooked him in the greenhouse. Too bad they can't tell us what is going on.
Made hamburger soup for the Sabbath and we will probably be eating it again tomorrow. Made a double batch and should have stuck to my original recipe. No room in the freezer for leftovers, so eat up it is.
Excellent Scripture and timely. All Scripture is good but sometimes some of it just speaks to a current situation.
We sure id have a change. Same here - just adding clothes! Glad I don't have to worry about storm windows - that would be tough alone.
DeleteI wish they could talk to us too!
Your soup sounds so good. It sure is that time of the year. Leftovers taste better as you go!
Thank you!
Autumn arrived here, too. Last night's low was 44. High winds on Saturday took out my 12-ft tall Mexican sunflower plant. I picked over 450 green cherry tomatoes and removed the plants before the cold front arrived.
ReplyDeleteGot half of the windows washed. Sure makes a big difference!
Last week's produce giveaway included a nice loaf of whole wheat bread, 8 brown eggs, and an organic skinless boneless chicken breast! Also got a nice slicing tomato that is just begging for a hamburger to go with it! The food is from Trader Joe's, which seems to be an upscale, organic foods store.
Busy week scheduled. I have a routine Dr. appt. tomorrow. The car is going in to Honda to try to fix the malfunctioning back-up camera on Wed. The library book sale starts Thursday. I may decide to stay home from the book sale. Husband fell twice over the weekend, and we had a very hard time getting him back on his feet. I'm trying to convince him to start using a walker.
Glad Blackie is better. Charlie spends nearly all of her day sleeping in the sun. We figure she is about 18 years old.
After a 3-week break, I have started making Project Linus quilts again. Also been reading a lot of history and working on my Irish genealogy.
Hope everyone has a safe and frugal week.
What a busy week! We had those winds come through as well, and that is what brought the cooler temps. We get low 40's at night.
DeleteSounds like a nice freebie produce give away! Good items for sure.
I sure hope you can convince hubby to use a walker or a cane at least. They really do help. Glen used a cane then went to a walker for quite a while - all in his 50's. He didn't like it - but safety was first.
Charlie is getting up there. I would sleep too. I think most of my outdoor kitties sleep most of the day and roam at night!
Sounds like another busy week for you. Hope all goes well.
Love hearing about your weeks!
Husband has been using a quad-cane but is too unstable now. He fell again today, the third time in four days. I ordered from Amazon a basic walker (no wheels) with two levels of hand grips to help him get up from his chair. I think this series of falls has convinced him that he needs one. Hope it works for him.
DeleteOh hon, I hate that. Glad he has agreed to use a walker. It really will help with getting up.
DeleteHoping he stays safe!!!!!
