Talking Tuesday - This and That

Hello to all.  Happy Tuesday!  Hope you are all well.  It is a VERY foggy morning here.  Earlier it looked like you could cut the fog with a knife.  In the 40's for today - then we go back down for a couple days and then back up!  We are playing seesaw with the weather here!  That is fine with me, nothing bad yet!  Around 4AM today, I guess there was a meteor shower here and a sonic boom - missed them both!

I have had a couple fun filled days - now it is time to getting back to being serious about the holidays.  Nice to have fun.

Me and Santa at Santa Claus Land in the 50's.  He is still there, and it is called Holiday World now.

I mentioned last week I went to the feed store.  I walked around hoping to find something I wanted as a gift (a kit for a terrarium).  Nothing there.  BUT as I am walking around I see what is called "PRIMITIVE PLANT HOLDER" - it was a macrame plant hanger!!!!!  Primitive???
I laughed out loud, and the gal working there, walked up and saw what I was looking at - and 'yeah, can you believe that?'.  I guess macrame is a fun thing again - but oh my goodness, the word primitive just set me to laughing.
How many macrame things I made back in the day.  I still have a plant hanger and a belt!  I guess that means we are primitive too!!!!!  LOL
*****

I just wanted to put this out there - it might help someone else.  I have over the years been gifted 2 Himalayan salt lamps.  Never used them much, but I have one sitting on my bedside table and figured why not actually use it.  I started using it a couple weeks ago and let me tell you I have been sleeping much better and more restful, and my restless leg has quieted a LOT.  I still have it now and then - but symptoms are less and last a much shorter time.
Now I know some may think that is crazy - but it has helped me.  Supposedly they ionize the air and that helps calm us.  It sure has worked for me.  Mine has a variable brightness; I keep it very low (a soft faint pink light).  I leave it on all night long.  I may try using it a bit brighter to see if that makes a difference.  I just didn't want a light that kept me awake.  It is a very pretty light.

So, you may want to give it a try.  They sure are pretty when lit. (not my pic).  This looks just like mine.

Well, I think I am going to go out and look for the last couple things I am having trouble finding.  JoAnn's may be a good place to go.  Two youngsters asked for very specific things - and of course no one close by has anything!  I will run down to Greenwood and look around - more variety there.

I hope you all have a great day.
Spread joy and smiles wherever you go and whatever you do.

  1. My outing today will be loss leaders at Fred Meyer: Zoi Yogurt $1.99 (UNHEARD OF!!!!) and large Avocados $0.99. Yay us! And any other markdown that appears before me ;-)

I will also stop at the liquor store for a special request Bourbon from hubster. (He is a 1-2x/w sipper and he likes to try a new one each time).

Happy Tuesday everyone! Bless us every one :-)

    1. Good prices - hope you find lots of bargains. May they jump right in your basket.
I have friends who love bourbon and have so many types.
      Have a good shop!

  2. Good morning, Have fun shopping! I have 2 of those salt lamps also. Never turn them on much. But since you said they help you sleep I may just try one in the bedroom. I have some of those "Primitive" plant holders too!

    1. Good morning! I never used them except on occasion before. I just turned it on one night before bed on low, and fell asleep and never turned it off - well I slept the best I had in ages. Then I am like - Hmmmmm - maybe! Kept doing it, and it sure has helped me. They are so pretty.
Oh my goodness, I am still laughing at primitive.
      Have a good day.

  3. Your comment about the primitive macrame cracked me up. My mom made an elaborate plant hanger. Do you notice that things always come back? "There is nothing new under the sun."

Will have to check out the Himalayan salt lamps. I'm not crazy about extra light in the bedroom but it might help.

Don't think I've been in the Joann's in Greenwood on 31. There's every kind of store you would want in that area.

Santa Claus Land was much better before it grew and got commercial. People can't leave anything alone. Same way with the Dells in Wisconsin.

We have a Gray Brothers Bakery in Avon. Don't know what possessed them to open a bakery up here but according to the NextDoor app, they are doing a brisk business. The last time we ate there, several years ago, the food was not as good as in the past.

    1. About every 30 years things come back in fashion. Keep something long enough, and boom you are in style!
It is such a soft light pink light - it really doesn't bother me.
Well I went to Joann's on 31 - lots of empty shelves but EVERYTHING was on sale!!!! I did get the 2 things I wanted!
Yes, the old place was so neat. Now it is all fancied up.

I saw that on the news - couldn't believe they opened one so far from the restaurant! I still will favor Long's Bakery. I don't remember the only time I ate there - years and years ago.

  4. I love my salt lamp and have had it for years. I let it run 24x7. I don't know if it helps but I do sleep well almost every night. Have a great week.

    1. I may start using it 24/7. It doesn't burn that much power.
I might use the other one in the L.R as well.
      Thanks - you too

  5. I have a cheap salt lamp in PA but it wasn't on a base so the humidity of Summer had it melting at the bottom and it fused to the half wall were it sat! lol I liked it but had to throw it away at that point. I should look into getting a new one but on a base. ;-)

    1. I have one with a wood base - but I still have it sitting on a ceramic saucer. Yep, they need to not be touching, nor get wet.
I am sure glad I finally tried it!

  6. I have often looked at those lamps and wondered if they worked, I think they look pretty when turned on.
I hope you find what you are looking for. I am resting this week, having trouble with my right hand swelling up for no reason. I'll have to be extra busy, next week. Take care, Louise

    1. They are very pretty. It has sure worked for me. So glad I actually tried it.
      I found it! Thank goodness.
I sure hope you get some relief with your hand. I bet that hurts. We do what we can do - that has to be enough. Take care.

  7. Cracking up about the macrame being "primitive"! Haha! My mama used to do macrame when I was a little girl. So funny to see that coming back around again! I'm glad the salt lamp seems to be helping you sleep better. I might have to look into that myself!

    1. I know right? I still chuckle every time I think of it. Everything comes back at some point.
It really has helped me. Read about them - they are pretty neat.

    2. I can appreciate macrame coming into fashion again, but Miniskirts? HotPants? Nope, I'm out of that picture! :D

I have 5 plants hanging in macrame cord now. No fancy knotwork, just cords holding the pots.

    3. Well, I have seen gals in very shorty shorts and I always see short skirts. Of course there is also tie dye and peace signs! We have been there and done that!!! Not for me - but those youngins can pull it off. LOL

  8. I saw a salt lamp at a neighbour's house, who said that she thinks it has real health benefits. I don't know about that, but I do know that they are really pretty.

    1. I know there are people who don't think it is anything. But is has sure changed my sleep patterns. Pink salt is good to use in your food too, it has lots of natural minerals - I have used it in the kitchen for years.
      Yes, they are pretty.

  9. My restless legs are bad at night, so I'm willing to try almost anything! (Except drugs!) I wouldn't know where to buy a salt lamp. Walmart? They do look pretty!

    1. Yes WM, or just about any store like that. I see them just about everywhere. They aren't real pricey either. The one in my bedroom plugs in the wall, I have another one that has a computer plug-in thing.
It has calmed my restless leg a lot. It still acts up a little, but not as bad and not as long.
I also don't eat after 6PM - anything. Sometimes a small glass of milk helps as well! Good luck!

  11. Ha! I got a macrame plant holder made by a friend for a wedding gift (48 years ago tomorrow). It was so lovely, white with light beige colored beads and I used it for years. A gift that I still remember all of these years later. Diane

  12. Hi Cheryl, I'm glad you posted about the salt lamp. My daughter gave me a nice one several years ago and I never used it but I'm going to get it out and give it a try! Have a great week!

    1. I hope you get good benefits from it. They really do help air quality. I just have read so many good things about them. Same here, had mine for a long time and didn't use - glad I started using it. Hope you like it!

  13. My understanding is the use of primitive refers to the method in which something is made, rather than referencing a preceding time. My brother uses the term rustic rather than primitive. My sister was big into macrame, I never did much of it, but I do recall having a hanging planter holder or two.
Glad the salt lamp is beneficial to you. Good luck with your hunt for the items.

    1. Well, I never thought of it that way. I always just thought 'time period'. I like the word rustic - I have been known to use that one too.
Thanks. I had a good shopping trip.

LOL - some days I feel that way. I get a bunch done - and think who was that? I should do it more often.
I am ready to start all fresh and new after the holidays myself. Trying to come up with a good plan for me and items for the blog. I look forward to 2025!
