The Day is Close at Hand!!

Happy Thursday to all.  Hope you are all well.  I know some of you gals up North are getting some nasty weather.  Stay safe and stay in!
Thirties here this AM and cloudy. Already been out to feed all the critters and kitty.  My boys are curled up sleeping after having their breakfast.  I feel like I could do the same!
Thought I would show the bigger wreath indoors that I put a few lights in.  My niece in-law made that for me and the stand it is on was made by my nephew.  I added a small strand of lights (20) and it gives such a nice glow to the room in the evenings.  20 lights add more light than one might think in a dark room.
Click on the picture to enlarge to get a better view of the wreath.

I can't believe how many delivery trucks there are daily in my neighborhood!  Multiply that by ALL the neighborhoods - goodness.  There are UPS, FedEx, Amazon, Prime, USPS all everyday - and many of those are on my street multiple times!  You would think in this day of computers and electronics; they would have a better system of routing packages.  I would think it would save time and money to have deliveries on each street made once (maybe twice) a day - I mean they track that stuff.  I know I see UPS at least 6 times each day on my little street!!  Nuts.

Speaking of delivery - I got one I wasn't expecting yesterday.
This lovely tin of old-time candies came from my wonderful friend Laurie yesterday!  I so love all the old-fashioned candies.  I have already been in it this morning!

I am counting the days until Saturday and the winter solstice - because then the days go back to getting a little longer!  I so need more daylight.

I am home until Christmas Day, I do believe.  No plans to go out.  I know many have family coming in, celebrations may begin this weekend.  Baking to do, gifts to wrap (or maybe buy).  I imagine everyone will be busy with something.
I will be keeping busy with this and that - and hopefully enjoying a Christmas show or two.  I like having holiday music playing as well.

Please all stay safe and warm.  May those traveling have safe travels.
I will be back with a Sunday post as usual.
Have a great day and enjoy all the festivities leading up to Christmas, whatever they may be.

  1. That wreath is gorgeous! Fairy Lights really add so much soft light. My tiny tree has a gentle glow that warms the atmosphere of the whole room.

That's quite a selection of hard candy! Glad it went to you and not to me, as I'm not a hard candy person. Chocolate here. ;)

My daughter is coming home for Christmas, and that's a big deal as the airfair is close to $1000 (round trip) and a complete surprise!

We're looking at an Atlantic Clipper storm for this weekend - snow and cold. All those poor hurricane victims in tents.... Oh No! Prayers needed there for sure, for magic housing to appear.

    1. Thank you - she did an amazing job. I love the twinkle lights.
I like chocolate - but love hard candy.
I am so happy your daughter is coming home for the holidays. That is great.
I have seen many travel trailers going that way - I sure hope there are tons of them! They need the warmth and protection. Stay safe and warm.

  2. Good morning! I love having Christmas music playing too. Your wreath is really really beautiful. You're very blessed. I'm so glad you love your candies.:) I know what you mean about those delivery drivers, poor guys going up and down the streets all day.
We have a Christmas luncheon and white elephant exchange today at Butch's Vet Center. It's always a fun time. Saturday we are suppose to go to Family Christmas party. But we will see because Butch has had a cold and I feel a bit puny myself.
I have been rushing around trying to get everything done I just want a long winter's nap!

    1. Christmas music is just fun and it takes me back to days I miss.
I am blessed - so many good people in my life. Oh, love the candy!!!! I will have to hide on the 29th, as I will have a house full - (if there is any left!!).
Have fun at the luncheon. I bet that will be nice. I sure hope you are both feeling better so you can go to the family event. Fluids, and stay warm. Get extra sleep.
I think a long winter's nap is in store for many - I look forward to it. Have fun today!

  3. The wreath is lovely, and the addition of the lights is great!
We had more snow last night, but not until we got home from Eli's Christmas concert. He didn't go on stage but participated from his seat. We were so proud he made it through the entire event.

    1. Thank you. You have had a fair share of snow for sure. Ugh.
I bet the concert was sweet. I love when the littles do concerts. Glad you got home safely.

  4. The candies remind me of participating in the Christmas program at church when I was young. We received a little brown bag with this candy after the performance! Thanks for reviving that memory. Merry Christmas to you and all the readers.

    1. I love it when something triggers a memory for someone. What a neat little treat that was for you! It just takes me back to childhood. Mom always had the hard candies.
Thank you and Merry Christmas to you!

  5. Beautiful wreath and how lovely to have a stand to display it on. At hubby's vet center today one of the men gave me a piece of hard candy that evoked such memories from my childhood. It was a peppermint, red and white stripped, but it was the kind and it just melted in your mouth almost immediately. It was so good. Now that most everything is done I'm focusing on dinner. It will be low key with just the two of us and a dear friend who lost his wife a couple of years ago. In perusing the internet I saw a recipe for roasted sweet potatoes and bosc pears together. Sounded really good to me. I had a roast in the freezer so we will be having that along with a assortment of other veggies. I will also be so glad that days will be getting longer again. Cookie

I am so ready for more daylight.

  6. What a lovely wreath!!! And that old fashioned candy, I would be into it as well by now. I actually saw a box of ribbon candy and was oh so tempted to purchase it.
Our sons should arrive on Saturday, perhaps one might come tomorrow if the weather allows.

    God bless.

    1. Thank you. I know - love the older candies. I like the thicker ribbon candy and my late brother loved the thinner kind.
I sure hope they have safe travels and a wonderful visit.

  7. The wreath is beautiful! She is very talented. The stand for it is a good idea.

The hard candy was always so pretty with all the pretty colors and shapes. What a nice gift! One of my favorites was the Queen Anne Cherries. My mom made divinity. I never had any success with it. Black walnut fudge is good too.

    1. Thanks - they are both very talented.
Oh how I love divinity. Mom always made it too. I have been successful once or twice - other times not so much. That is one you have to hold your mouth just right!! LOL! Such a fond memory.

  8. Ooo, fun, vintage-style candies! Lovely wreath. We drove up to Kansas this morning to lay Christmas flowers on our family’s graves. Chilly 31*. This weekend is supposed to be the busiest traveling weekend.
We like to have Christmas music playing, too, Cheryl.
Have a nice weekend enjoying the Spirit of the Season🎄🤶✨🕊️

Chilly morning - but we do what we need to, don't we? It will be busy I am sure, and there are BIG ball games and such here in our state = which will bring more traffic.
Thank you - it is such a wonderful time of the year!
