Weekly Wrap Up 12/22

Happy Sunday to all.  We are now officially in winter!  Soon the daylight hours will start to show improvement!  I am so ready for more daylight.  Christmas is 3 days away!  On another note:  spring is 90 days away!  LOL!
I imagine many of you might be celebrating today!  I know events stretch out for a lot of people over a week or so.  I have Wednesday with my brother's family.  Next Sunday will be a get together at my house for the kids (2 nephews and 1 niece & families).  Last weekend was siblings Christmas.  So yes, it can stretch out over time.
I can only imagine how excited all the little's are!  I remember the anticipation - it was thrilling & almost unbearable!
It is chilly this morning - but dry.  We will not be having a white Christmas in my area - it will be a soggy Christmas instead.  Temps are to gradually go up all week, until it is close to 60*F by the end of the week.
My frugal week:
  • Monday and Tuesday I actually got to air the house a little
  • Finished the last-minute Christmas I wanted to get
  • Got the great deal of .39/can veggies I told about earlier in the week
  • I got my end of the month gas fill-up while out, as I plan to be home pretty much for the next week or so.  Saved .40/gallon with points
  • I clipped Blackies nails and have given him a couple good brushings (his fur is so thick)
  • I went out and cleaned the storm sewer drain (opening) one day - a neighbor had raked all his leaves towards it a couple weeks ago (ggrrrrr) - so I went out with a pole and cleaned it out so there is good flow now for rainwater
  • Paid all the bills
  • Finished all the wrapping & bagging
  • Lots of laundry
  • Made and canned 6 jars of grape jelly (from my frozen grapes)
  • Worked on combining a lot of partial or near empty seasoning jars - ie: garlic powder went in garlic salt container, mixed seasonings combined, etc.
  • Made a batch of hard-boiled eggs for snacks
  • Eating from home and using leftovers.  I was soooo hungry when I was out shopping but resisted and came home and ate!
  • Working on house cleaning
Meals this past week:
Leftover roast and veggies (sent home from sis's)
Leftover baked spaghetti & side salad
Chicken tender sandwich & fresh veggies
Cheeseburger, fries and veggies
French bread pizza (from freezer) & salad
Mushroom ravioli and spaghetti sauce (both from freezer) & garlic toast
Breakfast - bacon, scrambled eggs and toast (w/dab of jelly leftover from canning)

So there is my week.  Pretty quiet - I still have baking to do this week.  I want it all fresh for next Sunday and I do believe I have everything I need for my menu that day.  Yeah, I am just going to say I DO - no need to buy anything else.  I have plenty here.
I would like to say thank you for Christmas cards from some of you!

How was your week?  Are you ready?  Meals planned and goodies bought?  I know not everyone celebrates, and to you, I hope you had a nice quiet and calm week.

I will probably make some short posts this week, on normal days.  I know everyone is busy - so if you do not have time to stop by - I say MERRY CHRISTMAS to you and yours.
I hope you all have a SAFE and wonderful week ahead.

Blessing to you and yours from me at my humble little home.

  1. My son's working today, but both daughters are coming and likely staying most of the week. The youngest roommate goes home for nearly two weeks so she gets lonely and next week can work remotely. I stocked up in their favorites for meals, plus my extended family get together meals. No bought treats, but have the last of the baking today. I had wanted to make more jelly but never got around to it
Cherries will stay froze a bit longer.

    1. Hi Sam. I am so glad your daughters will be staying with you for the week. It will be good for you to have the kiddos all home. I am glad that the one can work remotely.
I bet they will love having mom's cooking all week. That is something we do not forget about our mom's - our favorite meals and their homemade goodies.
I will make more jelly as well, after the new year - this will all be gifted in baskets.
I sure hope you and your children have a wonderful time together. Have fun with the extended family as well.
      Make the most of it!
      Have a beautiful week.

  2. Merry Christmas to you too, Cheryl. I hope you enjoy all your celebrations this week and next. I did the same as you this week, was hungry while out, but came home and made food here. Definitely saves money!

    1. Thank you Belinda. I know you are getting yourself ready for surgery - so enjoy your week and holiday. It sure saves money - I kept thinking about stopping and just passed each place until I was home! LOL
I hope you both have a super week.

  3. We are abundantly blessed! Especially blessed to have the Messiah who shed His blood for us.

You have had a busy week! It's kind of aggravating to have an extra cleanup because someone else didn't think about what they did. The neighbor to the south mowed up his leaves, except in the ditch. Gary finally went over and mowed them up because they would have blown into our yard anyway.

I'm impressed that Blackie let you trim his nails. Good kitty!

The sun is just beautiful this morning. According to the calendar it is winter, but we have some warm temps coming up. I like that is only 90 days to spring. It will be here before you know it.

Your meals all sounded good. I am making salmon patties today with asparagus (which needs to be used) and peas. Should have enough patties left for another meal.

Happy Christmas, Happy Hanukkah! Soon it will be Happy New Year. Time just flies by.

    1. Yes mam, we are abundantly blessed!
It is aggravating. The people next door walk past trash each day and don't pick it up (in their yard) and eventually it gets blown into someone else's yard. I just think how lazy do you have to be!!!
Those 90 days will be gone in a blink!
Mmmmm asparagus sounds good. Yep, NYD will be here in a minute.
Have a great week of preparing and celebrating.

  4. Today I packed up all the presents to take to my son's on Christmas Day. Found a box just the right size for everything! Of course on The Day I get to make my dish-to-pass and I'll also bring along some containers in case there are leftovers to bring home.

Also setting up things for dear daughter who will meet me there on Christmas Day and then come home with me. If the weather is nice, we'll go sing carols in the evening.

Otherwise, socially, my week looks calm, and I'm grateful for that. It's been a bit of a whirlwind lately.

I envy your being able to clip Blackie's claws. I could clip my Blackie's claws, but Ally will take my hands off if I try that with her! I think generally one must start that when cats are young, and never ever clip too close or that's the end of it. Better get Bits trained now!

    Merry Christmas you all!

    1. Have a safe trip to your son's house. Hope you get to bring home some leftovers! I would love to go caroling, I remember doing that when younger. Such fun. I am so happy your daughter will be coming back with you - you will have a wonderful time!
Blackie is very calm for the most part. He grumbles, but I just kind of hold him tight and get it done. Bits won't let me close to his! Nope. Blackie calmed so very much since coming in. All he does is literally eat, sleep and potty! Mainly sleep!
Merry Christmas if you don't make it back on here this week.
      Have a lovely week.

    1. Woohoo 2 weeks off! That is wonderful. Good for you on getting it done and just chilling and enjoying the rest of the time. Once next Sundays activities are done - I plan on chilling for a week or so before doing much else.
Thank you - I always look forward to be with the family. The younger ones are a ball to be around - they keep me feeling young!
      Have a super blessed week.

  7. Merry Christmas Cheryl!
We're as done as we're going to be for Christmas. My grandson and I have been watching his favorite Christmas movies (Home Alone). The stocking is hung, the baking is done, and we're ready for Santa to make his appearance.
Enjoy the time with your family!
