Weekly Wrap-Up 10/31

Good morning all.  Here we are on the last day of another month.  It is celebrated by many as Halloween.  Just think for us here is the U.S., Thanksgiving is 3 1/2 weeks away!  Christmas is less than 2 months and then we will be starting another new year.  Seems just like yesterday I was saying this in 2020!!

Well, fall has finally hit out area.  We have had a lot of rain this week and now the cooler (colder) temps are coming.  Looks like we will have nights in the 30's this coming week.  I think we can say bye-bye to any flowers we have left.

Yesterday twice I looked out back and there was 'big bird' (hawk) sitting on the fence.  The second time, Blackie saw it and was not happy.  He ran over to the fence and scared it off.  He never bothers the regular birds, but he doesn't like the hawk.  I went out the first time and shooed it off - and if there was one little bird there were 100's of them that went flying out of the bushes!!!  They sure were hiding for their little lives!

Blackie has finally gotten back into sleeping in the greenhouse again - thank goodness.  I was worried about that because of colder weather coming.  He decided it was the place to be, when the rains started and has slept in there since.  He has his special spot!!!!

I just think picture is so cute. (not my pic).

I watched the Charlie Brown special - The Great Pumpkin that I recorded this week.  I love those little shows - such innocence.  It made me smile for sure.

My quiet week:
  • Made a batch of waffles for eating and freezer
  • Received a complimentary Reader's Digest this week.  It was kind of fun to read - haven't seen on in years
  • Paid everything I had that was due for Nov. - balanced everything
  • Refilled my big glass jars with pasta and rice
  • Got taken out to lunch one day by my sister
  • Got to talk with several family members I haven't talked with for a while
  • Got to share home grown tomatoes with a couple other people.  Those green ones are all starting to ripen and they are still pretty darn tasty
  • Cut my hair and did a root touch-up
  • I did go out and buy gas for Blazer.  I had a .30 discount that needed to be used before month end.  I still had a 1/2 tank - but I am all set now.
  •  I did run into to Kroger for additional cat food only.  That area is still lacking a bit.  Everything else looked pretty good.  I did notice that soda pop had limits!  It didn't matter whether it was a 2 liter bottles or cans -and the shelves were full.  (hmmm) - same with water (there was lots).  Nothing else had limits.
  • Made a pot of chili - that can be eaten in many ways in the coming days.  I added chopped peppers (freezer), diced tomatoes, onions and shredded zucchini (freezer) to it.  I think the peppers and the zucchini has given it a sweeter taste.  Can't even see the zucchini.
  • Just doing all the normal stuff we all do.
Meals this past week:
Waffles
Leftover mashed potatoes and kraut with added smoked sausage
Mex./taco rice bowl
Huge tenderloin and chips (lunch out)
Oven fries, wings and sliced tomatoes
Beef/bean/rice burritos (used leftover taco meat & rice) topped with diced tomatoes
Chili with crackers and butter

How was your week?  Any deals or finds?  Is anyone doing any crafting for the holidays?
Look forward to hearing from you all.

I hope the coming week is kind to you all and that you are all safe and healthy.  May you all find what it is your family needs and that you find some deals.
Blessings from my humble little home to yours.

Let your light shine before men, that they may see your good and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.
Matthew 5:16

  1. Glad to hear that Blackie is back to his normal habits. Good on him for chasing away the hawk. I realize they have to eat too, but I'm always sad when a little bird is taken by one of these birds.

    Have a good week ahead!

    1. I know - they are really majestic looking birds - but I don't want them in my yard!

  2. Happy Halloween! And blessings in advance for November. May it be kind to us all. Our weather waffles from warm to cold, often on the same day. No great bargains other than buying a case of Krusteaz cookie mix (12 count) for about $2 per box, which should get us through the holidays, including baked gifts. --Elise

    1. Thank you! Our weather has been changing up a lot too. Some days you wonder if it is spring, summer or fall!!!
That is a great price - those are good.
      Have a good week.

  3. Good week but didn't do a lot of thrifty things.
Mended a few items and knit on some Christmas presents.

That and hospitality has kept me busy.

    Bless you,

  4. I too am glad Blackie is feeling like his old self again. We’ve had rain here this week too. We stayed home from yard sales because of it and I enjoyed the break. Your tomatoes are beautiful! Great minds think alike, we made chili here this week too.

I hope you have another good week, Cheryl.

  5. We had a lot of rain this past week as well but I am glad since everything was quite dry. Hundreds of acres are being cleared behind our property and it has stirred up so much dust and everything was just coated with it. Thankfully we have an acre and a half of woods as a buffer.

We have been looking for a replacement for our gas grill but they have been so expensive this year so when I saw a deal on Woot! I went for it. We saved $340. The plan is to keep it in the box until the current one completely dies and then put it together.

I added six pounds of Butterball ground turkey to my freezer for $1.40 a pound with sale and iBotta. It is vacuum sealed and will be used half and half with ground beef in future meals. I was shocked to see ground sirloin for $6.78 a pound this week. Might as well buy a steak! I put two meals of soup in the freezer for later and used up some out of date cans of beans that needed to go. I made a pan of peanut butter bars and frosted them with chocolate frosting from the freezer.

We had a creepy week with our front motion lights coming on repeatedly during the night. They shine in our bedroom window so Hubby kept hopping up at night and looking out the window to check for a prowler only to see nothing. Last night we finally just turned off the switch so we could get some sleep. In the wee hours of the morning I realized that there were probably some leaves stuck in a spider web out front and sure enough that was it. So glad that is over!

Eat a big ole tomato sandwich for me! Yum!

    1. Glad the rain helped with all the dust. What a good deal on the ground turkey. I like it mixed half and half.
Good job on getting soup in the freezer and using up those needed to be used items.
Oh how creepy. At least you figured it out - no spirits at your house!!!! LOL
Mmmm that does sound good - may have one this week!
      Have a great week.

  6. No deals or finds this week, just rain! But, it quit on Saturday, so it was dry for the kids to get out in their costumes. Your tomatoes look delicious.

  7. Happy belated Halloween! It was a busy and productive week here, as well. I cleaned out my pantry and reorganized everything, putting like items together, instead of wherever they fit. While at it, I did an inventory on what was running low and what I'd need to add for the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. When I went for my flu shot at Meijer on Saturday afternoon, I did a big grocery shop, as well. Man, those shelves were getting scarce, particularly in paper goods, some canned goods, and crackers. Pastas were thin, but I didn't add any to my cart, as I'm pretty good to go there. I still have 3 green tomatoes on the last of the plants, and am hoping that they'll at least start to turn. Patio furniture and garden pots have been stowed, with the exception of the two with remaining tomatoes. Todays plan includes tidying up the kitchen after pantry clean-out left a mess, paying some bills (due today, which will mean paying in-person at Macy's; I'll leave my card at home), and picking up a quilt I took to the cleaners. And, lastly, I'll say goodbye to my neighbors who completed their move over the weekend. Their closing is on Tuesday and I have no information on the new owners. She said she'll be over today to do one last walkthrough to make sure nothing got left behind and to run the vacuum. Wishing you a wonderful week!

    1. It is a messy job reorganizing the pantry. I always make a mess. Good to have it done. Glad you didn't need any of the lesser items at the store m(those pantries ay off).
I picked my tomatoes all green and then place in newspaper and they have ripened nicely.
Sorry you are losing a neighbor. That is always hard - and not knowing what you will get!!! The kids next door just got approved for a home loan and are actively looking for a home - I will sure hate to lose them. I think the anticipation of new neighbors is stressful.
      Have a great week!

  8. Good to hear Blackie is back to normal! We worry about our furbabies.

Your tomatoes look so good! We have a few cherry/grape tomatoes left. The Urban Farmer picked the rest of the pepper and a mess of beans. We have two potato plants up from where we harvested and left a couple of potato scraps. In the same bed which was full of cilantro a few years ago there is a beautiful cilantro plant.

Miss Lana was talking about her motion light coming on because of a leaf caught in a spider web. Doesn't take much to turn the motion lights on. If I leave anything on the clothesline, the back motion light turns on and off all night.

This is definitely chili weather. We had chili for the Sabbath and enough left for another meal. The youngest daughter went with us to the new Costco in Avon yesterday. Costco's roasted chickens are so good and I can't buy a chicken for that price and cook it. We got one for Erin along with a pan of their scalloped potatoes and she said both were very good. The shelves at the store were very full, lots of nice produce and meat. Our Meijer store seems to be keeping up with shoppers' needs. Same way with Fresh Thyme. We are abundantly blessed. Wasn't there a ministry years ago called Abundant Life?

Good Scripture selection! Enjoy your day. Ole Jim says it's gonna get cold. I put the electric blanket on the bed and we finally broke down and turned on the furnace.

    1. Nice to always be getting some odds and ends out of the garden still. Most will be done this week. Yep - cold it will be, especially at night.
Nice that you got to go to the new Costco and glad to hear the stores are doing well with stock in your area too.
      We are truly blessed.
I do believe that was the name of it - they did a cheap food drive every month or so. Big boxes of goodies to who ever wanted it. I remember going a time or two. You ordered a box and then went in and paid and picked up. It was like half price or less.
      Have a great week.

  9. Glad Blackie is back to sleeping in the green house. I am crocheting a poncho for a Christmas gift, and crocheting on an afghan just for fun. Fixed some Chili on Saturday as it was damp and overcast here. (Central Fl.) I do hope that November is filled with blessings for everyone. Have a great week.
