Weekly Wrap Up 3/10

Happy Sunday to all.  I hope this finds you all well and safe.  Hope you all did well with the time change!  UGH!  I actually went to sleep a little earlier last night, hoping to hedge the drain of today.  Seems crazy, but that hour just changes things!  It got light later this morning, so delayed my going out to feed the critters.  I scared a stray kitty that was sleeping under the side steps!  My kitties weren't sure what to do this morning - I got up same time per clock - not them!  I guess we will all get used to it.

We have had nice weather, we had lots of rain, and we are now having chilly weather.  Looks to get nice again this week - but they are predicting a colder end to the month (last couple weeks).  Oh fun!
This started a couple days ago.  The forsythia have started to flower.  The daffodils are going good.  Lots of yellow and green out there.

I had a sick squirrel for a couple days this week.  It got in the feeding jar and just wouldn't leave.  Not sure if it was hurt or sick, but even walking up to the jar and tapping on it did nothing.  THAT is unusual.  I threw a few peanuts in there and a piece or two of sweet granola bar and finally it left - guess it regained a little energy.  I cleaned the jar well for the other squirrels, in case it was sick.

My cow birds are now back.  I keep seeing more and more different types of birds showing up.  It is getting to that time!  Lots and lots of robins are back now.

My week:
  • Spent some time restocking a lot of my pantry jars and moving some around.  Put back things not used often and put out things used more.  Just a lot handier.
  • Did some raking, weed pulling and light yard work
  • Got to air the house and have heat off for several days
  • Made a small batch of oatmeal cookies
  • I did run to Kroger and got some fresh veggies and fruit (strawberries & asparagus on sale!)
  • Using all leftovers and bits from the frig
  • Did more paper declutter.  It takes a long time, as I have to go through things and make sure I don't throw out something important.  I did find some stuff mixed in with general items, that needed to be kept.
  • I went to the paper shred event - I had 3 good size boxes.  I got there just as it opened, expecting a big line.  I was 3rd in line!  Next one is first of June - will have more for that one
  • Picked a bouquet of daffies!
  • Eating at home and using what I have
  • Lots of little stuff - moving plants around, moving baskets and small things around, just doing some re-arranging.  Put together new bottles of dish soap and shampoo.  Just lots of odds and ends
Meals this past week:
Beans/rice/sausage/cheese casserole
Enchiladas (used some of above rice & beans)
Fried cabbage and little smokies, smashed fried potato
Frittata and steamed asparagus
Chicken bites, cheesy potatoes (freezer) and salad
Seasoned rice w/asparagus added, topped with pulled pork (freezer) & sour cream
Rice w/asparagus (leftover) and fish sandwich

How was your week?  Did you get any deals?  Spring cleaning?  Still getting snow?  I know a lot of you gals north are getting slammed with snow.  I saw OK and TX had some bad storms - hope all are doing ok.
I always look forward to hearing from each of you.

Prayers for all that are ill or have family that are ill and going through so much.
Blessings to you and yours from my humble little home.

    1. WOW - didn't find nothing like that! I did find paperwork for a few things that are important and people I need to have info on. Glen was pretty good about filing stuff where it needed to be - but once in a while...oops!
What a find your friend had!!
      Have a great week.

  2. It's been a week. Five min after arriving home from the 4-hr drive from my son's on Monday the call came - there's a bed in LTC for mom with a move-in date of Wed or Thurs. The hardest part was telling mom that she was going to long term care. Maybe we can be thankful for her dementia because after the initial protest there was little change in her. The biggest challenge is the R-hand turn from her bed to the bathroom. She's been turning L for 5 yrs. She has a delightful roommate who is lucid & able to call for help on mom's behalf. Just like the transition of labor, this transition is hard. All things are difficult before they are easy; difficulties are meant to arouse, not discourage.

    1. Yes mam, that is a busy and exhausting week - both physically and mentally. I am glad she has settled after the initial shock. How wonderful that she has such a sweet roommate - that was meant to be. Old habits are hard to rid - hope she gets the right turn quickly.
Your last sentence says so much!!! Indeed.
      Have a blessed week.

  3. Good week! Got back to the gym 3x, walked several days, caught up bookkeeping which has been neglected since November (yes really). Cooking from the freezer as much as possible, restocked organic gr beef from a local farmer, ordered my Wild Sockeye salmon from a local family that goes to Alaska fishing 4m/year with their 3 kiddos ;-) read read read, finished a quilt and started another......

It was a fabulous week and I look forward to another !!!!

Happy Sunday everyone. No sunshine here today but we will get a glorious 54F. And I shall walk a good long stretch!

    1. Sounds like a fantastic week to me. It is nice to get caught up on things we have neglected. YAY on the beef and the salmon. What an adventure that must be for those kiddos.
You got it going on girl. Hope this next week is just as great.
      Have a good one.

  4. Sigh. Daylight Savings. Ugh. Sure wish we'd settle on one thing instead of all this change change change. How can we be 1/3 of the way through March already???
Supposed to be windy here for a couple days. Sure could hear it during the night, whooo whooo whooo. :( But the sun is shining and it's not cold, just chilly, and I can deal with that. :) Maybe this afternoon a good walk if I bundle up enough.
Made a big pot of lentil soup yesterday and have enough for the rest of the coming week. :)
My big deal this last week was mailing my taxes and am still dancing around about that. :) Always want them to get in and checks get cleared before Tax Day.

    1. I hear ya! I wish we would decide on one way for the time. This is always such a ugh for everyone! It is sunny here and a bit breezy, but decent.
      The soup sounds yummy!
I still have to get my taxes finished. Not too worried, as I have had good returns the last few years.
      Have a great week.

  5. Timely scripture from Ephesians!

You have had a busy week. Sure was nice to turn off the furnace and let some fresh air in.

Your forsythia looks so pretty! They are a sure sign of spring. We have daffodils, crocus and hyacinths blooming and I noticed the climbing rose outside the window by my desk is leafing out. Sure hope no cold temps sneak in and bite everything coming up.

    Enjoy this beautiful day!

    1. Yes, the world needs someone worrying about it!
It sure was nice to turn off the heat.
I love spring flowers. The daffies were a bit droopy after the cold overnight - but they perked up.
I am afraid we are in for another freeze at SOME point. Sooner or later.
      Have a lovely week.

  6. That is so sweet of you to clean the jar in case the squirrel was sick. I've never seen that either, where you'd tp on the glass and nothing. Poor little fellow, I hope he is OK wherever he went.

Being third in line for the shredding was great! Woo Hoo!

Your memals sound delicious as usual. We've been cleaning here as you know getting a lot of garbage out of here, which I love. I'm not sure how long it will take us, but we will get there someday.

I hope you are having a good Lord's day, Cheryl and get used to the time change quicker rather than later.

    1. Poor little squirrel - I am not sure what was going on. I didn't want everyone infected if he was sickly.
Thanks, we eat a lot of the same kinds of things. I just like what I like.
You have a big job ahead of you. You have sure kept busy with it.
Thank you - it is a beautiful day out.
      Have a great week.

  7. Forsythia is always lovely to see. The first wild flowers here are trailing arbutus; they have a lovely scent. But they are not blooming yet.
Today the wind is whipping down the lake. It is nice to just feed the stove and be lazy.
I started to make the chocolate hummus but after combining the peanut butter and chick peas with some extra oil, I found it was very tasty just like that and I will eat it with a spoon when I feel peckish.
Nice to get rid of all that paper; you can access what you really need so easily now.
I went to bed an hour early last night and it seems to have made the time change easy.

    1. Trailing arbutus! We used to have them here, but the county road crew came and scraped and widened the road and the arbutus were gone. :( I've looked and looked but never found any more. They seemed quite partial to that particular area, the shade/sun, the drainage, everything must have suited them.

If I'd had any idea what was going to be done to the roadside, I'd have tried to rescue them, even if that failed (which it often does, I hear).

    2. Yes, always nice to see the first flowers of spring. They just bring a lot of smiles.
Well, there you go - good to know it is tasty without the chocolate as well. I really like hummus - so versatile.
Yes, paperwork seems to accumulate so quickly and over the years - well, let's just say there was a lot.
I went to bed early last night too - I am not feeling bad today.
      Have a lovely week.

  8. Hi Cheryl, lovely closing prayer, thank you. Last week went by quickly, got everything done that was required and even a few more things. Just received my Medicare supplement bill (AARP) for the next year, up 17%. Yikes! I assume everyone will see similar changes, I can’t imagine Arizona is that odd. Alas, the increase in costs just for basics is really stunning. Happy almost Spring! Hilogene in Az

    1. Thank you. Glad you are getting all the things done, and soon can just sit back and enjoy your new home. Wow, that is a big increase. I don't go through them, but wouldn't be surprised to see mine go up. I will find out in a few months!
You have a wonderful spring day.
      Have a great week.

  9. I love that prayer. It covers everything for everyone. I saved it to my photos and will look at it often, lest I forget any person or need. When I pray, I will pray for you as well since you gave it to me. 😉Thank you. Linda T

  11. Love your forsythia! DH planted 2 small bushes last year that are blooming bravely. Our pink magnolia tree has gorgeous buds popping out. And the Bradford pear trees are in gorgeous white blooms all over the place. With the cattle and the flowering bushes and trees, the pastures look like old world paintings.🖼️
An hour north of us (in Kansas) had tornado warnings—thankfully none touched down. Today is sunny and mid-60s.
Fires were bad in the Texas and Oklahoma panhandles. I’m praying they have been put out🙏🏻
Lord bless that little squirrel you fed and the stray kitty.
We get to pick up farm fresh chicken eggs on Sundays from a lady and her husband who live a few miles away.
We’ll, God bless you and all your critters💕

    1. They are just a little brightness in an otherwise gloomy world when they bloom. We have some magnolias around here and once in a while they get to bloom without there being a freeze. They are so beautiful. I bet the scene is really something to see. I would love to have a country view this time of the year.
Glad you are safe. I sure hope the fires have been put out.
      Nice on the fresh eggs!
The kitty hangs around here (and every where else). The lady across the street feeds him. He seems to like the greenhouse (I don't blame him) and just feels safe here. She feeds several over there.
The little squirrel was just so sad. I hope he got energy to move on and feel better. I just love all the babies that show up around here. I couldn't hurt anything. Now I may trap and move some critters (the destructive ones), but sure couldn't hurt one.
Thank you. Have a blessed week.

  12. I have a stack of papers that need to be shredded. Will probably do that next month. It has been sunny, but according to the weather pundits more snow or freezing rain is headed our way over the next few weeks.
    God bless.
