Easter and the Weekend

Hello all.  Hope this is finding you all well.  Here we are approaching the end to another week.  My goodness the time is just flying by.  May starts in 2 weeks!
It is a very nice morning here.  The birds are chirping and singing.  Everything is thriving and growing and greening.  Just about every tree has little leaves now or at least buds.  So much color - it always amazes me how many shades of green there is in this world!
I have my 'old lady farm jeans' on already - to work outside today!  You know those loose fitting old grungy jeans? LOL!   Tomorrow is supposed to get to 80*F as a weather front moves in.  Looks like a lot of rain and wind again (and some storms) for the weekend.  Prayers for everyone's safety.
Tomorrow is Good Friday.  I hope everyone takes some time to reflect on the love and sacrifice that was given to us many, many decades ago.  What love, to be willing to sacrifice your only Son for others, and to be willing to be sacrificed.  I cannot imagine - but I am sure grateful.
Sunday is Easter, and I hope most realize this isn't all about the gifts, candy and the bunny.  It is a glorious day of LIFE ever after!
Easter was the last holiday that Glen and I got to observe together on this earth - how fitting.  A few days later he started his life in heaven with our Lord.  LIFE ever after!  That gives me hope and contentment and faith in daily life.

Along the lines of our frugal living, please know you don't have to go out and spend a fortune to celebrate this day.  Homemade treats and even gifts can be made.  Your meal can be anything you like and have on hand.  It doesn't have to be a ham and all the fixin's - it can be anything.  If you like spaghetti - fix it.  It you want fish, roast, lasagna, grilled burgers or even pizza - fix it.
It is about being with your loved ones and reflecting on the love and life you have been given.

If you are not of a religious nature, take time to reflect on all the beauty that surrounds us each and every day.  All the wonders of nature, that we get to enjoy.  On just waking up each morning and getting to go out and do what you want or need.  Appreciate the beauty of the world.  Spend a day reflecting on positive and not negative.  Go forth and add a little beauty to the world.

Here is a list of many stores that have committed to closing on Easter Sunday, so employees have time to be with family.  I well imagine that there will be many others.  I hope so.
No matter what I may not have or may have forgotten, going out to shop on a holiday is not something I have ever done.  I believe holidays should be spent with family, and when I go into a shop, it tells that retailer it is OK to be open.
I applaud those that close.

I wish you all a wonderful weekend.  I hope you get to be with someone you love, and that you get time to reflect on all the gifts we are given in this big old world.
If you are getting nice weather, get out and enjoy it a bit.

Have a beautiful weekend.
Life is glorious!

  1. Happy Easter! A Happy Day, the Day of Days!

My humming birds *are* here. Last evening when I brought in the feeder (to protect it from bears) I looked back and my hummer was sitting on the clothesline giving me the side eye for taking away the sugar syrup! :) I just said, "Tomorrow, you cute little critter!".

It's in the 30s this morning but fair and will warm up. Yesterday afternoon I worked outdoors pulling up runaway ivy and picking up sticks. Found 2 baby dogwood seedlings. Now I need to find a good place to move them next time we have good rain.

Nice to know some stores will close on the holy day. It may be inconvenient but we can cope.

    1. I love that your hummers are back. It is funny how they know just where to go to get feed. Oh, bears? Yikes.
Good day for getting some work done outdoors, indeed.
Yes, I think we can all survive not having stores open for one day! that should be the least of our worries.

  2. It is important for people to hear that celebrating Holidays does not have to be expensive or over the top like US commercialism tries to make it. It's not that difficult to make things special without over doing it.
I am SO glad that more and more stores are starting to close for holidays like they should. Remember back when many stores weren't even open on Sundays? That's the way it should be.
I hope you enjoy the rest of the week and Easter.

    1. I think it is important too - everything has gotten so commercial. Simple things and deeds can be very special.
I sure do remember. Nothing - I mean nothing was open on Sunday. No one thought anything about it either! I agree, there are many things that I think should go back to the old ways.
      Thank you! You too.

  3. Any days to reflect in nature are good ones. I'll be sure to get an extra walk, rain or shine.

  4. Cheryl I feel the same about shopping on a holiday. I remember as a very small child everything was closed on a Holiday or on a Sunday. Even gas stations! Sundays were for visiting family, and when gas was cheap, Sunday drives.
Spring is here and things are greening and growing. Rain and wind expected for the weekend, I will be outside while I can.

    1. Those were the good old days to me. I remember those drives for a picnic or fishing or whatever. Those were fun. Gosh, I remember when I got my first car, I think gas was around .30/gal. or less!
Same here, going to enjoy the dry time!

  5. Good Friday would have a very special meaning for you. You have beautiful memories of Glen.

It is a very nice day so I will go out and finished weeding the red raspberries and trimming off the dead branches. Lots of new plants so there should be a good harvest. The Farmer's blackberries are coming along nicely, too. Cabbages are in the planters and covered with fine netting to keep the worms out. The tomatoes and peppers he started are growing, just a while to go before they can be set outside.

Enjoy your weekend! Looks like some rain coming, but at least it is not snow or ice.

It is just lovely, and tomorrow looks to be even better. You sure have a lot growing - good for you. It sure will be tasty later on.
Yes mam, no ice or snow!
      Thanks

  6. I have seen some Easter baskets that almost rival Santa Claus! Haha! Not sure when all that changed, but we always kept the Easter basket simple with our son. I do hope the weather doesn't get bad where you are and that you enjoy your day of yard work.

    1. I had the same basket all my life into adulthood! Mom and dad just put some new things in each year, and some candy. It sure wasn't overboard.
Today was good and tomorrow should be lovely - so lots will get done. Then Saturday will rain - so inside work.

  10. I am amazed that some of those stores are actually closing on Easter Sunday! Good for them.
Our Easter extravagant meal is going to be: Mac ‘ cheese with broccoli and cut up hot dogs and a tater tot casserole with green chiles we recently discovered a recipe for. Two of our favorite meals.
    Just the 2 of us.
That’s amazing Easter/Resurrection Day was your last holiday with Glen before he went Home🌿
    Blessings to you, Cheryl
P.s. I still wear my grungy, 20+year-old, baggy jeans when the situation calls for it😝. And, we’re in for some weather this weekend like you🙏🏻

    1. It is amazing, as many are big stores. I love it.
Good for you! Eat what you like! Both sound good to me. I love broc. in mac n cheese. Enjoy your meal.
I remember that last holiday in detail too. Some things we just never forget.
My grungy jeans are probably that old - but they sure are comfy.
      Stay dry.

  11. Yes! We can create happy times and lovely memories by keeping things simple, using what we have, not buying into consumerism and spending time with loved ones.

When my son was little, I helped him to weave a little cardboard basket with fabric strips. I still place his Easter eggs in this basket now he's grown up. It's become a little tradition that cost almost nothing at the time but is meaningful and a reminder of childhood.

That is so sweet. I love that you kept it, and still use it. I bet he expects it too! Such a sweet reminder of the past.
      Traditions are so nice.

  12. Happy Easter, Cheryl. I agree with those retailers who choose to close on this special day. I won’t be shopping as it is a day to spend with friends and family, eating whatever we have on hand.

I don't understand why any would be upset about stores closing - they just should plan ahead. I wouldn't go either. It is a time for reflection and family.

  13. Easter is the highpoint in my Catholic faith. Most think it would be Christmas, but it isn't. Our celebration starts tonight with the Mass of the Lords Last Supper, continues tomorrow with the Good Friday service and end with the Easter Vigil on Saturday night (usually goes until midnight). Easter Sunday Mass is a bit separate from the Tridium.
I have never shopped on a holiday so there will be no shopping here tomorrow, Saturday or Sunday. I wish more stores would close for the holiday.
    Enjoy your Easter Cheryl.

    God bless.

  15. That's fine if you have relatives and friends and/or on good terms. If that's the case it's nice to be able to go out and shop when things aren't crowded.

    1. Even if not with friends or family close, I would still want those that do to have the time to spend with theirs. I need nothing that badly. I prefer to go shop early mornings to avoid crowds.
Hope you have a nice and quiet weekend.

  16. I noticed that Schlotskey's (deli) had a sign in their window that said they would be closed Sunday and I was very impressed. Whenever we have had to eat out on Easter, I've taken a gift to the waiter and made sure to let them know how much we appreciated them being there on a holiday. But I agree...if you don't go on a holiday, hopefully the establishments will begin to notice and not open in the future. Have a beautiful weekend!

    1. Oh, I miss that restaurant! That was one we visited several years ago. They were so good. Good for them!
How nice, to let the staff know they are appreciated. Some may choose to work on a holiday to make extra dollars, but no one should be made to.
Maybe some are beginning to take notice.
      You as well!!!

  17. Happy Easter weekend! I hope you have a good one. I remember when I was a kid the neighborhood grocery store was always closed on Sunday. Since it's just Butch and I, we have no special dinner plans other than a cherry pie for dessert! Just need to figure out the main meal. It is nice to see that retail is recognising that their people should be able to celebrate the holiday.

    1. Thank you and you both as well. I remember nothing being open on Sundays or holidays when I was little. I kind of still think that is how it should be. Everybody deserves some family time.
It is nice to see the retailors finally understanding it.
      No big plans here either.

  18. Some lovely sentiments Cheryl. I hope that you have a lovely Easter. I went to our Good Friday service yesterday morning (over 200 attended) and then I went to vote as the advanced polls in our federal election opened yesterday. It was packed!
Most big stores will be closed tomorrow (some smaller local ones open but usually with reduced hours) - I will not be shopping - Church in the morning and then a nice lunch in the afternoon. It has finally got a bit milder here about 60F today bit a bit dull and rainy. I am just puttering today - doing some odd jobs around the apt. while the baseball game is on in the background. It's nice to have a quiet couple of days after a busy week (I work in my church office so Holy Week is extra busy). Have a lovely weekend everyone.
