Good morning all. I hope this finds everyone well. First, thank you for all the prayers for my gr. nephew. He is doing well, and finally home. Still not out of the woods completely, but if he follows the directions of doctors all should be good. Again, thank you.
It is a beautiful morning here. Very damp with a lot of dew. Sun is shining and it will be warming up today - so all is good. This week looks to be in the 70's most of the week. Everything is green and pretty.
Easter turned out dry here - it was cloudy a lot, but it stayed dry. Saturday was a total wash-out.
It should be something we think about every day. There are just so many little things that we can do daily, that helps in so many ways. This is our home - we need to take care of it as well as we can.
- DON'T use chemicals outside! Please DON'T. They are damaging to birds and animals and they kill our bees. We NEED those bees - they are needed for so many things to pollinate
- Plant flowers for the bees
- Keep a plant or two in the house - Plants help the air stay clean - very important
- Be kind to nature. Yes, some things are invasive - but it is all important for a reason. Each thing on this earth is put here to take care of something else
- Cut out chemicals in the HOUSE as well. You don't need to be breathing in all that stuff. Stop the chemical cleaners - try to make your own from natural things. Be careful what you buy, clothes, furniture, rugs, etc. - many contain very dangerous chemicals. I am sure you have all smelled that smell on new items - that isn't good - it is chemicals
- Stop using plastic as much as possible. Use glass for storage. Take your own grocery bags to stores
- Walk around and pick up any trash that you see in your neighborhood (or wherever you may be) - if we all do a little it will help so much
- REDUCE, RECYCLE, REUSE!!!!!!!!!!!!! The best 3 R's ever
- Conserve water. Turn it off, fix those leaks. Save rainwater if possible, for plants
- Choose sustainable options of things. Natural things that when used, can be regenerated by the earth.
- Many plants, leaves, 'weeds' and flowers are edible or usable in many ways. Jellies can be made from lots of flowers and what may be considered weeds (dandelions, violets, clover). Tinctures and salves can be made. Teas. Many leaves and flowers can even be eaten in salads or cooked
- Walk more if possible - at least take less trips in your vehicles.
- PLANT - weather it is trees, flowers, or veggies. Grow things - it all helps the air and the soil and our bodies
- Forage - this kind of goes with above - things that are edible. You can often find berries, grapes, nuts, mushrooms, etc. growing out in nature and they can add to your pantry. KNOW what you are getting - do the research. You don't want things that can harm you
- Turn things OFF - lights, heat, water, etc. If you aren't using it - turn it off
- Don't WASTE - try to use 100% of what you bring in your house in some way
- Eat as natural as you can. Less junk and processed food - means less health issues and it means less packaging and less spending of $. If we all stopped that stuff - it really could make a difference. If it doesn't sale - less will be made
There are so many little things that we can do on a daily basis to not only help the earth, but to help our bodies and to help our pocketbooks! Just try to be a little more conscientious of things.
Get outside and just chill a little. Enjoy all the beauty and the nature and sounds. I know many of us get outside to work - but we also need to relax outside too. ENJOY what we have.
Take care of things and they will help take care of you.
Have a beautiful day!
We should celebrate Earth Day everyday. Thanks for all of the tips and reminders. I get outside every day regardless of the weather but this time of year, I spend even more time outside reading. It's one of my favorite things to do.
ReplyDeleteHave a great day!
Yes indeed we should. Everyday is an important day. You sound like me - 365 days a year I am outside at least an hour a day - no matter the weather. That sunlight and fresh air mean everything to me.
DeleteThanks!
I did not know those little Maple whirly things were edible! That is so cool. :) If I see some big ones I'll collect a few and try them. The ones I have are *tiny* and it would be annoying to break open a pod for something only a bit bigger than a sesame seed! :D
ReplyDeleteYes, combine your car trips, park at the far end of the parking lot and walk. Exercise is good and it keeps you on your feet.
Cool damp with showers today. Hope it continues, we need rain a lot, but not all at once.
MaryB
I have seen the squirrels eat them for ages, and did some research and yes, they are edible. I tried a couple yesterday, and they are mild tasting. I guess they get stronger the bigger/older they are. Eat just the seed!
DeleteI agree - group those trips together. No need to use those cars so often. Mine sits 4 or 5 days a week on average. I do that too - park further away and that is exercise. I know everyone can't do that - but it is good if you can.
Hope you get the rain you need.
So happy to hear that your great-nephew is doing much better! That could have been disastrous.
ReplyDeleteInteresting about the whirlies off the maple trees. If left alone, you would have a forest of maple trees!
We are to care for this earthly home that the Father created. You list so many ways that we can do that. Think about how strong the chemicals smells are on the cleaning/laundry row in the grocery. If I have to go walk that way, I take a deep breath and rush through. Some (many) of the manufacturing companies are guilty of polluting the air and water.
Beautiful day! Laundry and some will be pegged on the line. Enjoy your day! Bits will love the sunshine puddles on the floor.
Thanks - yes doc said had the bleed kept up - it could has caused a major stroke and the fractures and breaks just a bit off could have caused paralysis. God's hands!
DeleteThose things grow in every crack available!
It is amazing all the things we all use that are just so dangerous really. Chemicals are in so much of what we use and eat.
It is gorgeous! He has been at the front door most of the morning looking outside!
I am so sorry about your Nephew and so glad he is on the mend.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much. Prayers are the answer - I firmly believe.
DeleteNowadays the recycling is endless. Our garbage service does not take glass, scrap metal, and styrofoam. So, I have to find locations that accept these items. It sure takes a lot of time, but I keep doing it. I also garden like you, but that is lessening as I age. UGH! So glad to hear about your great nephew. Have a nice week. Linda T
ReplyDeleteOur garbage service takes everything still - not that it is a good thing. Some things need to be recycled. It is a job. Many locations that we had to do recycling have gone away. Not sure why.
DeleteGardening isn't easy - but I sure do like the benefits!
Thank you!
Very happy to hear the news about your great nephew. I'm sure it is a relief for the entire family.
ReplyDeleteMother Nature had a different idea for us this Earth Day. It's snowing (again) and heavily. We're expecting up to eight inches before this storm blows through. Our little town has postponed the Earth Day clean-up for sometime in the future.
Thank you so much. Much relief.
DeleteOh no, that is awful. I thought you were done with snow. 8" is a lot - that really stinks. I sure hope it melts quickly.
That is a shame for all of you!
Cheryl, So glad to hear the good news about your g-nephew. We had a pretty quiet Easter. Lasagne for dinner. We have been out working in the yard pulling weeds. My nails sure show it. And the cat is keeping us company while we work.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much.
DeleteLasagna sounds good. I had a quiet one as well. Just the way I like it.
Yep, that yard work isn't good on the nails - poor things. Seems I am constantly cleaning mine and filing them! Sure is a lot to do in the yards. I love that the kitty helps!!!!
So many cleaning and hygiene products are unnecessary.
ReplyDeleteSoap and water is often sufficient. And even then a lot of times I only use water.
So I rarely buy cleaning products (beyond soap, dishwashing liquid & similar basics). My husband loves getting that cleaning stuff though. So he'll made a special trip to the store for it. It makes him feel like whatever he's cleaning is *really* clean. I have to let the room air out before I can go in. The smell makes me gag. Fortunately he doesn't do it too often.
You are so right. I don't buy cleaning stuff anymore except laundry and dish soap. I either use soap and water or something else homemade.
DeleteI agree with you in the smell! It is gag worthy on most things. I think many people are like that - the ads say it works - therefore it must be the best. Manufacturers sure have people figured out. Glad it isn't often that he does that.
Good news about your nephew.
ReplyDeleteI agree, if we all did the small things the Earth would be a better place. My family are shocked at how little washing liquid I use in my machine. usually just a dribble, but the clothes come out perfectly clean.
Thank you!
DeleteYes, just lots of little things times millions of people = big difference.
I use just a splash myself - nowhere near what it says. Too much is not even good for clothes - it stays in them. Usually our clothes aren't really that dirty - so a bit and water is good.
That is great news about your nephew!
ReplyDeleteI had no idea those helicopters were edible. You learn something new every day.
Thank you.
DeleteI know right? Fun facts to know and tell. I guess we never know when that may come in handy!
I am so glad your nephew is home and doing well. I need to learn to recycle jars more. I know they would come in handy to store items in. We only have one earth and we all need to look after it much better than we are.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Thank you.
DeleteI try to keep as many jars as possible. They are great for storing items and I use them for my dry homemade soup mixes too.
Yes mam, we all need to do better.
So true. Many things we can do to not hurt Mama Earth.
ReplyDeleteThat is right - we sure need Mama Earth!
Delete:-)
