Hippity Hop - Easter Will Soon be Here

Good morning all.  I sure hope all are safe and well.  The storms have moved Eastward, causing havoc all along the way.  Prayers for everyone in their line.  If you haven't already - please check in and let us know how you are faring!!!!!
It is cold this morning - go figure.  It is in the upper 20's!  It was 80 a few days ago.  Spring weather never ceases to amaze me.  The sun is shining, so that makes things feel better (if in mind only) to start the day.

Easter is less than 2 weeks away!  Hard to believe.  Many have family get-togethers and meals for the family, many celebrate the bunny events for the younger ones in the family, and then others strictly celebrate the reverence of the day.
Whatever way you plan to spend the day - here are a few ideas that maybe you can use.
A fun and natural way to color hard boiled eggs.  Using what you have on hand and no artificial dyes.  I think it is fun to mix and match.  Coloring is also a good way to store hardboiled eggs in the frig - just to know the difference between fresh and cooked!
Easter Smore packets!  Yeah, Peeps are not the best thing to eat, but the kiddos will surely think this is cute and fun.  Little baggies all ready to make the goodies. These can be used on Easter or kept for a later date!
Making special treats for the family to enjoy, is always fun.  You can decorate cakes, cookies, cupcakes, fruit - you name it.  It doesn't have to cost anything - you can make you own goodies and create fancy toppings.  Just a fun way to increase the fun for Easter or any occasion.

Fruit pizza is always a yummy dessert, and it is pretty too.  I have done this and used a giant sugar cookie (you can make whatever kind you like).  Top with a little cream cheese with a bit of sugar added - then fruit of any type.  Yummy and always a hit.

Maybe make a centerpiece from your yard!  Cut newly budding greenery, or flowering bushes or trees and make a lovely display for the table.

I know eggs are expensive - but I hope those that want, can color a few.  There are also plastic eggs that can be filled with treats and tiny offerings or even change.  You can usually get bags full of plastic ones at the thrift stores.  You can also make Jello eggs.
You can really get creative and color/paint rocks.  Rocks are fun to paint with pictures or sayings.  They look cute in flowerpots, gardens or even on windowsills!  Just something free and fun for the whole family to make.
There are many free printables on the computer to print out for the kiddos to color.

Use baskets, totes, boxes (decorated) that you have to make Easter baskets.  I had the same one (w/Mom) from the time I was little into adulthood!!!  I looked forward to it.
Buy little gems at the dollar stores - hair accessories, crayons, little cars/trucks, socks, balls, maybe a frisbee, nail polish, puzzles, etc. to fill the basket.

Get creative on your meal and use what you have.  Go through that freezer and the pantry and make a delish meal.  Seriously, there are no rules that say you have to have this or that.  Do what you want.  Make the foods that your family likes - whatever it is.  You can make a very special meal with what you have and maybe add a fun dessert.
Enjoy the family and celebrate the true reason for the day.

Just remember you don't have to fall into the 'holiday' traps of spending tons of money.  It can be fun and special for nothing.

Do you have any fun and frugal ideas for celebrating, especially for the kiddos?

Have a wonderful day to you all.

  1. Given the high price of eggs, I read that some folks are raiding Robin's nests for this year's Easter eggs and just leaving one or two for the bird parents to raise.

    1. Well, you can go for!
I will buy a dozen eggs and enjoy them just as always.

  2. We celebrate all of the holidays but we've stopped celebrating the 'american' way. IMO holidays like Christmas and Easter and others have become way too commercialized for my taste. All of the buying gets in the way of truly celebrating the meaning of the holiday.
I love all of your low cost ideas to show people it really isn't (or shouldn't be) about the stuff or the money.

    1. Love that. It all has become very commercialized. That is the reason I try to make things or gift items of food etc. I think it is good that people teach the younger ones this as well. They need to know the real reasons for special days!
Thanks - it really doesn't need to be about money.

  3. The storms have been vicious this spring. Some people have lost everything, including members of their families. Tragic.

We observe Passover and the matzah we made is delicious. I put some Eisele's honey on mine this morning and it was like dessert. A locally harvested honey is better for the body. Hunter's Honey Farm has good products too.

    Enjoy this sunshine!

    1. Yes mam, the storms have been something, and not in a good way.
I bet that was delish. I always try to buy local honey - has so many good things in it. Helps with allergies as well, as it contains local pollens. The sun is so pretty!

  4. We are having a gathering of family with 6 children included.I made mini cupcakes (2 bite brownie size) and will ice them just before the gathering. I then supply 6 toppings in a cupcake type pan. Kids can dunk the iced cupcakes into the toppings of their choice: coloured sprinkles, Skor bar crumbs, etc. not a big amount of sweet (other deserts include fruit) but interactive for the young ones. No germ sharing but probably lots of floor cleaning 😉.

    1. Love that idea. That is the perfect size, and they get to customize! That is just fun.
I'd do a little floor cleaning for that idea. Hope you have a lovely day of it.

    1. Hi Mandy - glad to see you post. I have worried about you and the weather.
I have great memories as well. It was always a fun time and new pretty duds that mom would sew up! Fruit pizza is so good, anytime of the year!

  6. A few years ago we made some nice Easter decorations by blowing eggs and then painting them in pastel colours. A hanging loop can be added to display them. Stored in an old egg box they will last for years. Hang them on an Easter tree made by painting small branches white and arranging them in a vase.

Another cheap and cheerful decoration can be made by cutting a simple upright bunny shape, around 6 inches high, out of white card - just one larger circle, a smaller circle above it and a pair of bunny ears on top. Make a pompom out of whatever coloured wool you have to hand, cut a hole in the card where the bunny's tail should go - not too big, perhaps a third the size of the pompom - and push the pompom half way through the hole to hold it in place. Add a hanging loop and hang from cabinet knobs around the house. Great fun!

    1. What a sweet idea. I remember blowing eggs when I was younger - that was fun. Love the little tree idea.
Love these ideas. Simple and free fun that will last for many years. Cute decorations at the store cost a chunk of chnage. Cute!!!

  7. My daughter uses the plastic eggs every year (same ones!). She puts a couple of candies in each and then Eli goes on an Easter egg hunt. We're hoping the weather will warm up enough that we can do it out in the yard this year. :)
I refuse to buy chocolate - he gets enough of that - so I do purchase something he can use. This year it is a helmet he can wear while using his scooter. He outgrew his old one.

    1. The plastic eggs are fun - you can put so many things inside. I used to get excited when one or two had a dime or a quarter in it. back then that was big money!
I like the idea of getting something he can use. The helmet will be great.

  8. I love the idea of peep s'mores packages. I used to make my own chocolate creme eggs but since the boys have gotten older, the only celebration we do is a big meal.

    God bless.

      A meal together sounds perfect.

  9. When we had chickens we had brown eggs, and they color up so interestingly. I'd never seen brown eggs colored before and loved them. I'm saving that Egg Coloring Chart for DDiL to try with the littles. Maybe she'll be interested as they're trying to avoid all artificial colors this year for all their foods.

Brr, it got chilly again! Sweatshirts and sweat pants for sure. :)

    1. I don't think I have seen brown eggs colored myself. Interesting - never thought about that.
I hope she has fun with it.
Yes mam, chilly is a nice word for it!!!!

  10. Boy! Time is flying! I just looked at the calendar to see when Easter is, and it’s almost here. We don’t spend anything extra on Easter, as our kids are grown. But we have the 10 year old granddaughter that still expects the Easter bunny to come. Her parents still have that fun!

I don't spend anything either. I know the family with little ones do have fun with it.
