Hello and happy last Sunday of April. I hope this finds you all well and safe. Another week that has flown by, heading into a new month.
It is a chilly morning, as was yesterday morning. Lots of ups and downs. I still haven't planted anything but will do so after at least Mother's Day.
Last Sunday, Easter, I did not see the Easter bunny - but I did see the "Easter hog" - yes, it was my first sighting of the groundhog across the alley!
My frugal week:
- I cooked a whole pork loin on Easter (from freezer) - cut it into 3 pieces before placing in crockpot. I have 2 sections frozen now for easy meals later on
- Cut my hair and colored (at home)
- I did turn on the heat one cycle this AM - but have used none all the rest of the week, nor AC
- Cut the grass and trimmed
- Flipped the cushions on the glider out front (reversible) for a different look
- Did go out to shop for a 4-year-old! I have a gr.gr. niece having a birthday party this coming week -- so needed some fun stuff (Ollies). I did purchase a new door mat for the porch for myself - bright and cheery for 4.99 as well!
- Topped off the gas tank for month, when out - saved .10 gal. on purchase
- Eating from home, except for one day. Using what I have and eating leftovers in new ways
- Did go out Friday to have lunch with grade school friends. Went to the House of Tokyo - it was good and a different experience
- Bought NO groceries again this week
- Been moving lots of yard decor/yard art to different places - kind of redecorating w/o spending any money! Also put out some of the gifts I got at Christmas for the yard.
- Cleared out between garage and fence - old siding and bad lumber had been stacked for a while - all cleared out now
- Trimmed the back shrubs
- Took apart the air purifier/ionizer and cleaned it all
- Aired the house a lot
- Used air fryer and crockpot and not oven this week
- Cleaning, and doing all the normal stuff
Meals this past week:
Pork loin, potatoes and carrots
Pozole
BBQ pork sandwich, fries and side salad
Chicken fingers and salad
Tostadas
Out to eat
Sloppy Joe and salad
Thursday, we had random downpour in the late afternoon and hail. That was surprising. Nothing big but is sure was noisy. Friday, we had a lot of rain as well. Looks to be more rain before April ends - it sure has been a wet month. April showers bring May flowers! Everything is so pretty around here.
How was your week? Have you found any good deals this week?
Getting ready for planting/garden season?
Look forward to hearing what you are all up to!
I pray this coming week is beautiful for each of you and that you all stay safe and well and productive.
Blessings to you and yours from me at my humble little home.

Not that I complain of want; for I have learned, in whatever state I am, to be content. I know how to be abased, and I know how to abound; in any and all circumstances I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and want. I can do all things in him who strengthens me.
Philippians 4:11-13
Dear Lord, our souls are thankful for another week on this earth. Guide us each and every one to be thankful for everything we receive - whether big or small. Guide to use what we have wisely and to help others to know how to use their time, money and goods as well. Let our hearts be full of appreciation and love, and not of loathing or anger or resentment. Prayers for a beautiful week for all. AMEN
Beautiful prayer this morning. "I can do all things in him who strengthens me." This is something I say to myself all the time.
ReplyDeleteThank you. I do too. I really don't know what I would do or where I would be without God. Don't want to find out either.
DeleteHave a blessed we my sweet friend.
Yes, great prayer. I managed to get a paperwork job done that's been on my list since before the hurricane! I've been intimidated by it but now it's done. Whew. :)
ReplyDeleteNo meals out this week. Made bread once. Finished up some things in the fridge that really needed eating. Bought 3 little 6-paks of annuals, grabbing them when they were available. Waiting has not worked well for me - stuff gets gone and then I'm left with having to go all over town to find what I want. Did take a risk and planted (in big pots) a few annuals. If necessary I'll either cover them well or bring them indoors. Poison ivy was coming up near the path so I got that with RoundUp.
This next week will be busy - a birthday party and 2 singing events plus maybe 2 days at my little part-time job. That's gonna make me sleep well for sure. :) I've not yet taken apart my winter bedding, the nights are chill and I want my blankets. Next month that will change.
Have a lovely week, all!
MaryB
Thank you.
DeletePaperwork is a pain. I may need to get some annuals as well - I just putting it off. I have done the same, and ended up with not having what I really wanted.
Sounds like a really busy week. Have fun!
I did take off the blanket this week. I have actually slept better since then. I just don't like being too hot.
Have a super week!
More signs of spring with the vehicles vacuumed after the winter & summer tires put on the car. May long w/e is the usual time for planting in this region. Greenhouses are busy both Mother's Day & May long w/e although I'm reluctant to plant any bedding plants before the first week in June because of frost risk. Another busy week with a birthday lunch for my sister, yet another funeral, and another birthday celebration with the "klatch" followed by cards. I was happy to have some quieter days at home. Vertigo one day made for a very quiet day. Only got in 6 miles of walking this past week. Started the yard clean-up. Cleaning up around the wood pile is often first on the list. In the kitchen: macaroni salad; roasted smoky with sauteed peppers, onions, cheese; monster cookies. A ham is roasting in the oven this morning. Have a good week, Cheryl.
ReplyDeleteYAY - glad spring is sprung in your area. We have had frost and snow late in May before - daddy always said the ground is warm enough till the end of May - so I usually wait.
DeleteSounds like you need some quieter days. Verigo is the worst! Take care. Yard work sure never ends.
All your food sounds very good.
Have a lovely week.
Excellent devotional! That Scripture in Philippians is one of my favorites. Be content! And grateful!
ReplyDeleteIt's fun to shop for the littles. She will be excited with what you bought her.
Another busy week for you. Cleaning out debris is always satisfying. It is good to be able to air the house out. No humidity yet so it is very pleasant.
We meet an older gentleman at the barber shop, and he and the Farmer became friends. George was 88 with serious health problems and went home to be with the Father. We went to the visitation yesterday to pay our respects to his widow. Between the two of them they had seven adult children, assorted grands, great-grands, and great-great- grands with one on the way. Someone in the family had put together a wonderful slide show of pictures.
Going out to do some more weeding. I wish I had your energy and ambition!
Thank you. Something we should all be every day! We are so blessed, and really should be joyful.
DeleteCleaning up things is VERY satisfying. I like to just walk out and look at the clean area! The weather is perfect.
Sounds like a man with a life well lived. What a wonderful thing. I am sure the family appreciated your visit and know he was cared for.
Good day for working outdoors. Have a good day and a super week!
Sounds like some good spring cleaning outside at your home this week. I love getting rid of old clutter like that. That space between the garage and fence must look terrific.
ReplyDeleteIt’s chilly here this morning at 55 degrees. It has rained all week here and washed out the driveway in one area. Our good neighbor is going to help us fix it. Good neighbors can’t be beat.
I love when things look clean and I have put off a lot of stuff.
DeleteI just love there is nothing there!!
That was about the temp here this morning. Very chilly.
So sorry about the drive - yikes. You are right good neighbors are a blessing.
Have a great week.
It's so lovely to be able to get outdoors. I got the shed cleaned out yesterday and counted the bags of soil (three) for filling planters in the next few weeks. My daughter emptied them last fall - not sure why as I tend to use the same soil for several years, just add some water soluble fertilizer and mix it all up in the spring. Anyway, I'll need another two-three bags as we plan to put out more plants this year. I've got a dozen tomatoes started, peppers, and herbs. We'll try planting potatoes in bags too. I'll plant peas and carrots from seed before I leave for the city in mid-May.
ReplyDeleteNext up is clearing out the raised flower bed of the plants that I want to get rid of and remove many of the rocks. There's work to be done in the garage too, to remove some cabinets as it limits space in the small building for my daughter to park in the winter.
Lots to do, and the weather is cooperating! 18C/65F this afternoon with even warmer temps expected next week.
So happy the weather is finally cooperating for you. I will have to get more soil as well, I think I just have one big bag left.
DeleteIt sure does accumulate - all that work. So many things to refresh and improve come spring. Glad you got plants started.
Don't over do it. Have a lovely week.
Busy week here also, cleaned the garage, 2 freezers and burned the winters brush and most of the limbs that had fallen. I had to burn in order to have room for the piles from recent winds.
ReplyDeleteMy onions and potatoes are up and poking thru the dirt.
Went to a county gardening show and got some rhubarb starts.
Have counted pots and hanging pots and will be picking up annuals in a week or so.
Yard mowed for the first time and cleaning out perennial beds.
Next week I hope to get the camper cleaned inside and out. I have put it off long enough.
JC
There is always something to do, isn't there? Sounds like you accomplished an awful lot. Each thing just makes it all look so much better. It makes us feel better about it as well.
DeleteI have to do my count on pots and planters too.
The camper is a big job. Especially cleaning the outside. I remember those days!
Have a wonderful week.
It's been so nice to get the windows open this week and dry multiple loads of washing outside on the line.
ReplyDeleteNo big jobs tackled, but lots of little ones. That's always really satisfying.
Yes indeed it is. Little projects add up and they just make you feel better. Most of mine were little things, but they made me happy!
DeleteI get it. That fresh air is just glorious!
Have a lovely week!
Hi Cheryl,
ReplyDeleteI always read your weekly accomplishments and get impressed. Everything adds up quickly to a long list. I can’t remember the blogger who would price out the value of all she did and count the value, maybe Annabel at Bluebirds? It was a great idea. At minimum I could start a list like you do. Here in Arizona it has been lovely, the snowbirds are flapping their way back to colder climates so the roads are getting empty ;). Temps are wonderful! I went to a four day Holy Week retreat at my church with a friend, and it was remarkable. Now back to real life…ironing…swiffering ;). Thank you for the prayer, it was lovely. Have a good week. hilogene in Az.
Thanks. Small things add up. Yeah, that used to be Vickie on Annabel's posts. I can't even imagine how to do that - just too much involved. More than I care to think!!! LOL
DeleteI have to write things down during the week or I would never remember stuff.
So glad you are enjoying good temps, as that won't be the case in a while! Oh, how nice, that sounds like a wonderful experience.
Love when you stop by. Good to hear from you. Enjoy you week!
Lots of lovely accomplishments this week Cheryl. I did get my living room and dining room spring cleaned and at some point tomorrow I will head downstairs and get the room that oldest uses when he is home done. I have also added to the donation boxes and those will be heading out the door this week as well.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Sounds busy at your house! All those items will sure bless others. That is great!
DeleteHave a wonderful week.
Lovely Bible verses and prayer. It is supposed to be 90 tomorrow in South Central Alabama. I am south of Anne in the kitchen and PP. I planted tomatoes, mustard greens, spinach about April 8th. I am supposed to have my tooth out tomorrow which broke over Easter. Soup and ice cream will be on the menu. Cindy in the South
ReplyDeleteThank you. That is hot! I don't look forward to 90's. How nice that you can plant so early. You will have harvest way ahead of the rest of us. Sorry about the tooth, enjoy those soft foods, especially ice cream!
DeleteHave a great week.
A respectable week! Tommy mowed our lawn with the new mower. I had wanted him to do the neighbor's yard, but he forgot. So, I will do that tomorrow. The new mower is battery powered, so it will be much easier to use. So I am sort of looking forward to testing it out. I hope to be as accomplished with my week too.
ReplyDeleteThanks. I looked at the battery operated, but just didn't figure it would last long enough for the whole yard. Have fun with it.
DeleteHope you get a lot done.
Have a good week.
Our temperature was in the 80's for most of the week so I turned the AC on I think Wednesday. Then a cool front came in for Saturday and Sunday with highs in the 60's which was nice. It has been a very wet Fall/Winter and now Spring here. The FFA had their annual plant sale. I bought a number of herbs and a few flowers. Their prices are great plus their grown by the high school students which is great.
ReplyDeleteHave a great week Cheryl.
I had a couple warm nights - but refrained from using the AC so far. Sounds like our weekend here.
DeleteHow nice to find a good outlet to get plants, and the money is supporting a good cause. Love that the younger generation is learning these things.
Have a super week
Cheryl you are such a blessing to me, I just want you to know that.
ReplyDeleteKim, that is just so sweet. Thank you so much. I love you all so much.
DeleteHave a wonderful week dear.
Shopping for kids is always fun! It is really warming up here. We are in the 80's in the afternoons. I'll miss those breezy, cool days! It's been so nice sitting outside on the patio.
ReplyDeleteIt was fun - there is so much to choose from!
DeleteI think 70's is about right. But grateful for 80's too - better than winter. Enjoy.
Have a great week.
My organic farm plant sale is Friday. (yes, I buy to support them rather than start all my own). I need to inventory the canning rack and freezer today and determine what I need to plant for next winter's consumption. My best savings come from my garden and I love the work of nurturing, harvest and preserving. (it will be 40 Thurs morning so I'll do it when it's the coolest temp this week).
ReplyDeleteAND our weekly CSA pickup starts 5/7 so freshies are coming 😊
I'm always grabbing those markdowns. Only once have I seen an outdate-and we all know yogurt is good for weeks after!
Happy Tuesday ya'll 😊
I would buy from the plant sale too - I am sure it is a good cause too. I buy plants, since I don't need tons - it is just easier to buy. I get it.
DeleteYay on the CSA - that will be wonderful for you - I know you enjoy it.
I love markdowns - I rarely pay full price.
Have a great week!
Your meals sound delicious too, and I’m especially intrigued by the pork loin, potatoes, and carrots—what a comforting combo. It’s great to see how you're taking time to enjoy the little things, like lunches with friends and the beauty of the rain-soaked landscape.
ReplyDeleteWishing you a smooth transition into May and a fruitful planting season ahead. Don’t forget to swing by my latest post,
