Weekly Wrap Up 4/13

Happy Sunday to all.  Happy Palm Sunday!  I hope this finds everyone well, safe and blessed.
It is a decent morning here.  In the 40's and a bit overcast.  Still kind of bright and it isn't raining!  It looks like this coming week will be very near seasonal temps for this time of the year.  That is good.
It is just getting so pretty out.  The grass is vivid green, all the trees are budding and leafing and the flowering trees are magnificent.
The birdies are singing this morning, Licorice has been fed, and the squirrels are scampering all around.  I always have finches, all year long, but the first "bright yellow" gold finches have shown up in the past couple days.  Oh goodness, they are pretty.  Bitsy is curled up next to me and being a cutey!  It is a great morning.

Just a lot of this and that this week!
  • Worked on getting the basement floor all dry - that took a couple days.  So happy to have a dehumidifier, shop vac and a fan - they helped a lot
  • Picked up lots of sticks after the storms
  • Had landscape timbers (8' - 4x4) actually float many feet from all the water in the yard out back!  Got those back where they should be.  They have never floated like that in all these years.  We had a lot of rain to say the least.
  • Spent a half day with sis.  That was fun
  • Dug out the front street storm drain (2 doors down).  It was packed with dirt, leaves and sweetgum balls and almost couldn't see it.  No wonder we had so much flooding on my street.  I dug it out and removed all the gunk.  It is free and clear now!
  • Got to air the house some on a few days
  • Recorded some very old classics to watch at a later date (from 40's)
  • Mowed front to back and trimmed everything
  • Did laundry and used dehumidifier water in the laundry
  • Cooking meals at home and using up leftovers in new ways
  • I did go to the store Friday to get a few fresh goods.  I found a bunch of really good clearance items and will share those on Tuesday.  Want to post about ways to still get deals!  Also got 4X points on Friday to help with gas later on.
  • Just doing all the normal things
Meals this past week:
Made a chili/cheese spread/dip and had with crusty bread - fresh veggies
Deconstructed cabbage roll skillet (used leftover fried cabbage)
Chili/cheese fries and a side salad - (leftover spread)
Chicken breast, fried corn and asparagus
Chicken/mushroom spaghetti, fresh veggies (leftover chicken)
Cheeseburger and fruit
Spicey rice, sausage, cherry toms

There you have it - just a lot of odds and ends.  How was your week?  Has everyone gotten things taken care of after all the storms?   We still have 18 counties under declared emergency!  There is still just so much flooding in the southern part of the state, as it is in many places.
What have you all been up to this week?  Any good deals?  I hope it is getting warmer for those in the great up north.

I hope you all have a lovely and safe and healthy week.  May your week be filled with blessings of all sorts.  Enjoy as the weather warms and sun and fresh air abound.
Blessings to you and yours from me at my humble little home.

Create in me a clean heart, O God, and put a new and right spirit within me.
Psalms 51:10

Dear Lord, again we send up thanks for all the many, many blessings that we have received.  May we all try to live our best life and be kind and good to others.  May our words and deeds be kind to all.  Help us to improve ourselves each and every day and to improve our attitudes and reactions to others and to things we cannot control.  May we all exemplify the life Christ lived.  In His name we pray, AMEN

  1. Good morning, Cheryl. I enjoy the weekly wrap-up; a little time of reflection. So often we reply, "Not much," when asked what we've been up to. In fact, the week is made up of many little things that contribute to a life well-lived. It was a social week here - supper & cards (canasta) at a friend's; another friend joined me for an afternoon of cards (.11c rummy) & snacks; a cousin joined me for lunch on Friday. I feel more inclined to be social with the majority of mom's estate work in the books. Walked 7.5mi this past week. Still need a toque & light gloves; temp this morning is -2C. Pussy willows are out & there's a slight tinge of green on the hills behind the house. Finally painted the basement stairwell. It's the prep work that takes so much time & effort. I can't paint without taping; I don't trust myself. In the kitchen: perishke, mediterranean tuna noodle casserole, chicken noodle soup, baked beans, tortellini soup, chicken salad, naan bread pizza, chocolate chip cookies. Have a good week.

    1. It is ALL the things - little and big. You are right, we often say - not much - when in fact there was a lot.
You are such a social butterfly! I love that you get out with others so much. It is so pretty to see the horizons changing color and getting green with new life.
I have painting I need to do - but it IS such a job.
      Your food all sounds wonderful.
      Have a lovely week.

  2. Excellent devotional! We certainly have an abundance of blessings. I didn't realize that were that many counties still having weather related issues. They could use some blessings.

Yay, you got your basement dry! I don't know if the neighbor's basement flooded again with this last heavy rain. Basements are wonderful so long as they stay dry. That would be a heavy rain to move those timbers. Of course, the clogged drain would play a large part in the flooding. Nowhere for the rain to go.

Today is a very nice spring day. It would be a good day to work outside for a while. Sweet Bitsy, curled up next to his mommy.

That's great that you can spend time with your sister. Good for both of you. I sure miss my brothers, who have been gone many years.

    1. Yes, I just saw that on the news yesterday that the Gov. has said 18 counties still under emergency. So sad for all involved.
The rain was crazy here - but it sure as heck could have been worse.
It is going to be a lovely day. Listening to the birds right now.
It was a lovely visit. I am so happy we still have each other. I have lost 2 over the years, so yes that is sad.
      Have a beautiful week.

  3. I got a haircut this week. I have a lot of hair and when it gets too long it really weighs me down. It feels so much better now.
I made time in the garden to plant some veggie seeds and my neighbour kindly gave me some carrot seedlings, so they got put in too. Fingers are now crossed for a good growing season.
We had some lovely days this week and it was great to throw open the windows and air the house out. I even had t-shirts on for a few days.
I hope you have a good week.

    1. Yay - a haircut is always nice. Glad you got some relief!
Wow, planting already. Good for you. It is still pretty early for me - but I am anxious. I hope everything grows well, and nice on the seedlings.
Fresh air is just wonderful and a great and free way to air out the house.
      Have a super week ahead.

  4. It was cold this morning, frost everywhere. Brr. Today will warm up and tomorrow will be fine. Spring, gotta love it!

My azaleas are in full bloom and I need to set up the hummingbird feeders as this is when those little darlings show up. Also the red honeysuckle has started, and they love that stuff. I've planted annual vinca seeds, parsley seeds, and shasta daisy seeds. Hope they make it.

DS gave me Romaine lettuce, onions, sweet potatoes, and cabbage - the school had thrust a bag full of that into his car when he went to pick up the littles. School is afraid children will go hungry on spring break next week. There was *way too much* for DS to use for his family so I've been eating cabbage and cooking up the tough outer leaves of the Romaine as greens. Very good. That cabbage was big as a watermelon and I had to use a hacksaw to cut it!

Much sympathy and understanding for your down-state neighbors under Storm Emergency. Been there, done that, hope they were prepared, hope they will be ok soon.

Great devotional today, just right. :) How can it be Palm Sunday already??? Where did the year go? Whoooosh!

    1. We had frost yesterday - a lot of it. This morning was nice here.
I guess it is about time for hummies to show up. Mine usually come mid-May or first of June. I sure love those little flying jewels.
You are planting too! Nice that some of you gals are getting a start on the gardens. Sweet on the free groceries. It is nice that they help the kids out in some way. A lot probably would not get decent meals. That is a big cabbage!
Thanks, not sure how you prepare for some things. Having your home under many feet of water is totally unexpected. You know all the trials and problems of storms.
Thank you. The verse seemed fitting. I know this year is flying by for sure.
      Have a blessed week.

  5. Goodness, you certainly had a lot of rain. Those timbers are heavy!
It's still too early to do much outdoors work here, but I did get a bit done in the shed yesterday. It was just over 50F and a lovely day.

    1. Yes mam, we had more than a fair share of rain. And that was not as much as others got! It had floated the timbers about 5-6 foot away!
Glad it that warm for you. That is great. There sure is always something to do and clean!
      Have a great week.

  6. Sorry I missed that you had a flooded basement. Ugh. We had many of those when we lived in Illinois, 39 years ago. No basement in south Florida :) Glad you finally got it dry. Do you keep much down there?
I have been MIA---company non-stop for the last 6 weeks. Fun, but exhausting! And LOTS of cooking. And sand to clean up in cars and house (beach everyday!!)

    1. Oh, I have dealt with a wet basement floor a few times living here. This wasn't the worst one. There is a lot down there, but nothing really gets messed up. I have learned a lot of lessons over the years!
Sounds like a fun time for sure, but yes, that long would be tiring. Oh my - 'beach everyday' had me!!!!!! I loved going to the beach in Florida. Stayed there many times years and years ago.
      Have a super week.

  7. Cheryl it is wonderful to be able to open windows!
I was able to plant potatoes and onions, I thought about planting carrots, beets and parsnips today but it is windy....maybe later.
Very few bargains this week in the grocery stores. But my freezers are full and I have plenty.
Hard to believe today is Palm Sunday,

  8. That is incredible that you had landscape timbers move from all the rain. I have some and know they are very heavy. I’m glad that you got your basement dried out. I’m still traveling and did not go to a church service today but listened to wonderful bells for at least 15 minutes (maybe for Palm Sunday) outside a church and it was so lovely.

  9. It's 72 and sunny here today. The last two or three days have been gorgeous. The rain last weekend was crazy. We got a total of 9 inches here.
It sounds like you had a very productive week.

    1. 72 sounds heavenly. Looks like our week will be in the 60's - that's ok too! That sure is a lot of rain. It is amazing how so much fell in such a short time.
Thanks. It went pretty well. Have a lovely week!

  10. It is 66 and sunny here in Battle Ground WA. This week we have mulched the front yard and cleaned all wood blinds in the house. All the seeds we started in the greenhouse look great and we will be planting them in the garden by the end of the week. Thank you for your blog, I look forward to your postings. Have a blessed week.

  11. We are getting rain today and I love it..... Cleaning things and getting rid of the mold from the winter. I think Harvey and I will be purchasing seeds for the garden very soon and I have decided to use the money I have saved from my allowance to purchase planters and many of our plants this year.
I can not believe that those landscape timbers floated those things are heavy. So much rain necessary to do that. I am glad you got the basement dried.

    God bless.

    1. YAY, it is always nice to get things all cleaned off after the winer. All the roads salts and deicer and all the dirt and crud. That also means it is warmer!
That will be nice on the planters and yep, it is tie to be getting those seeds. Almost time!
We had a ton of rain - but thankfully ours is gone now. So many still have flooding.
      Have a blessed week.

      Thanks. Have a lovely week.

  13. Wow, you had a lot of rain to do all of that! That was so sweet of you to clean out the storm drain.. Neighborhoods are made better by people like you. :)

Your meals sound delicious. I'm looking forward to your Tuesday post. :)

    1. We did have more than enough rain. I just cannot imagine those that are still flooded - poor things.
Well it sure needed to be done, and a male neighbor younger than me was out in his front yard, the whole time I was working on it! Never asked if I needed help. Geesh.
      Thanks.
      Have a special week!

  14. So responsible of you (and smart) to unclog the drain in the street. My last house had a chronically wet basement, and it is such a pain. The house I am in now has great drainage, and that is such a nice thing. I hope you manage to keep it dry!

    1. The city doesn't have the manpower to do drains, and it seems that no one else around cares. It was packed with crud. People just don't think sometimes. All good now.
For the most part I stay dry now, this was a real freak rain.
      Have a good week.
