What Do You Want to See/Learn/Teach/Discuss?

OK, here we are a new month.  It is the beginning of fall here in the states.  The seasons are changing and we are gearing up for cooler weather and the holidays.

What do you want to read about this month?  Do you have any requests?  I sometimes feel like I repeat things, but then we get new readers so I think that is OK.  We all need reminders from time to time as well.

I have some ideas for the month -
Homemade holiday gifts (easy and fun)
One pot dinners
Homemade cleaning and beauty products
Fun gift wrapping
Fall recipes
More hints and tips
How I keep my food budget low (pictures of my easy meals)
Maybe the story of my 7X great grands (the Amish)

So give me your ideas.  I want to blog about what people want to read about.  I want people to learn and enjoy.  I want to learn from you as well.
I don't want to get stale with posts.  Give me your ideas or requests!!!!!!
Thanks

  1. It probably varies from place to place, but in our area, charity drop-off trucks (usually in store parking lots) disappeared during covid. Places like Goodwill stopped accepting anything other than cash donations in some places. Garage and yard sales also ceased. Well, we all have an abundance of "stuff" that probably doesn't belong in landfills. What about exploring Reuse, Repurpose, or Rehoming some of what has accumulated? Household stuff. Kitchen stuff. Clothing. Maybe even a blog or two on creatively repurposed leftover food using up the items at the back of the cabinet or pantry? Just a thought.

  2. P.S. All of your ideas sound good, Cheryl! Would love to hear about your family history.

  3. EM Griffith has some good ideas. Also, how about some new ideas for holiday activities for adults who have no families. It can be very hard for three months to hear everyone talking about families for people who have no children or grandchildren.

And you forgot to tell us about your ancestor who was captured by Indians.

    1. Yes, the Amish ancestors/native American story was the one I was thinking of.
Good idea. Being alone can really be hard. If no family is around 0- that would be harder. I will come up with some ideas for "self" entertaining and hopefully all the readers will as well!

  4. Fall's abundance and how to cure certain products and store those that can last without canning or freezing (squash, potatoes, onions, garlic, etc.). Recipes for the fall and fall harvest. Seasonal decor ideas to change things up.

For sure more recipes coming and I will most surely do Amish stuff.
Not sure where one in CA would go to visit Amish. Hmmm - will research that. I am familiar with areas around the mid-west and East - will look into it!
      Thanks!

    3. on facebook look at Simple Life in New Wilmington, Pa She conducts tours of Amish farms and tells of their lives. She's very interesting. I was born and raised in that area of Pa. It is beautiful there in the fall when leaves are changing.

  12. I have to chime in with everyone else...so look forward to every post and learn so much from you. I second the commenters ideas. I love your food ideas. What about some crock pot recipes and soup recipes? I also would enjoy just stories of your growing up and how you managed your own hone through the years. Crafting, repurposing, and natural homemade products sound really good also. No matter what you post, I know I'm gonna really enjoy!

    2. I read this blog first every day. Even when you don't post, I check in just for the comments.
I'd like to see stories about your ancestors. I've mentioned I have the genealogy 'gene'.
Seasonal maintenance reminders and tips (home, auto, garden, etc.)
Seasonal decorating (not just holidays) For example, I loved seeing your redecorated bathroom project.
      Crock pot dishes
      Repurposing
Frugality in different living situations. For example, I like Margie in Toronto's comments because she lives in an apartment in a large city in a different country and brings a different perspective.
Reviews of frugality and sustainable living books (checked out from the library, of course!)
      Keep up the inspirational posts

    3. How neat to hear Frances. I am glad you start the day here.
I figured you would like those stories of old - we both kind of have that same gene!
Great ideas added to my list.
I agree it is fun seeing how others do things. We all live in so many spots around the world - so it is very interesting.
Boy my list is getting longer!

  13. Meals for just one or two or how to cut down recipes so they work for one or two. I just have myself and my kiddos for the next month while my husband is out of town, and I know I find it hard to make smaller portions.

    1. I can help with smaller portions. I have had to get used to that. I hope I can help with recipes - I am kind of a fly by the seat of my pants gal!

  16. Hi Cheryl, I haven't commented in quite some time but I read your post every day and like Frances I read for the comments even if you haven't posted. I, too, learn something every time even at 86! I live solo with my fur baby, Maggie (my cat). I do my own cooking, shopping, laundry etc however I have help with housecleaning every two weeks. I LOVE my crockpot!! I cook once and eat three x during the week and freeze one single serve for another time. Like Margie I live in a city apartment (independent senior living) so have minimal space with a tiny freezer above the fridge. I just learned about Shoebox Suppers from the pantry posted on Annabel's Blog where the author gathers all the ingredients for a meal from the pantry and puts them together in a shoebox with a copy of the recipe for nights when we're too tired to think let alone put dinner on the table. Saves a tired cook from calling for expensive food delivery and remain frugal!. Another woman puts her Suppers together in a ziplock bag to pull from the pantry. I'm going to do that for dry ingredients and I thought I'd do it for the freezer dinner, too. Other than that new (to me) idea I learn from you and also your other Commenters. Stay safe everyone and we need to just keep on keeping on! Shirley K. near Seattle WA

    1. Hello Shirley. It sounds like you are doing great! I love that you are here and enjoying the blog. I like that idea on getting things together for a meal. It would simplify things.
It sounds like you and Maggie have a nice life together.
My Daddy used to ask me every day "what did you learn today?" - now I could tell him so many things!!!!!
      Have a great day!

  20. I read your blog and comments every day, too---I learn so much from the comments as well. I am 75 and learning something new daily!

I love when you show pix of your home and pantry and yard. I feel like I am visiting a good friend. There are many homes in my neighborhood, where I have lived for 36 years, that I have never seen the inside of. And very few have been in my home. Sadly, we are a neighborhood where everyone keeps to themselves. We do wave and say hello and chat on the street...it's actually kind of sad.

Maybe you have done a post like this already, but I would like to hear what others have for traditions for holidays.

    Have a great day...Jane

I like seeing people's homes as well - I guess I never thought about it like a visit. I have only been in a couple homes of my neighbors as well.
Oh, the Christmas traditions idea is a great one. We will have to work on that!
      Thank you
