HUMP DAY

Hi all.  I'M DONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   Yes, I am officially done shopping, and if I'm not - I AM!
I did a marathon shopping spree today, and I say marathon, because nothing was making me happy.  I had to go several places to find what I wanted, and then I settled a couple times.
I am so over shopping for ANYTHING!
I am pooped!
My goal in January is to not buy anything other than maybe milk.  We'll see.

I had a question on the 'fancy' trail mix.  That's just what I call it.  I usually just mix together M & M's. salted peanuts and raisins or craisins.   This time I did that AND also added whole almonds (from clearance), small pretzels (cheap), and chocolate drizzled popcorn (.99/bag - used 2).
You get a hand full of yummy every time!  Everyone liked it, and said it was good and different.
Just made it a little different this year - and it also stretched it out a little further.

SPRINGERLE COOKIES
Flour, 4 cups
Baking powder, 2 tsp.
Eggs, well beaten, 4
Sugar 2 cups
Boiling water, 2 tsp.
Anise seed, 2 Tbsp.

Sift flour and add baking powder.  To well beaten eggs, gradually add the sugar, beating till thick
Pour boiling water over anise seed and add to egg mixture.
Stir in flour.  CHILL

Roll out on a lightly floured board to 1/4" thickness.  Roll with a spring form roller or press with a springerle cookie board.  **If you do not have one of these simply cut into 1 1/2" x 2" blocks.
Place on ungreased cookie sheet and let air dry for 6 - 8 hours at room temperature.
Bake in a 375* oven for 11 - 14 minutes.  (No grease needed when baking either).

That's it - very easy!

Wishing you all a great evening!

    1. You're welcome. At least you don't have to BUY anything - just making. I have more cookies to make - but that's easy. I stay in my house with no need to spend $$!!!!!

  4. I love NOT shopping! Can't believe the time I USED to spend in the stores, back before the internet and amazing Amazon.com. TGMan checked the freezer and I do have butter. And he checked the Family Money Jar, and we do have some cash for groceries until Dec. 30th payday. This once a month payday is sure challenging!

  6. It starts with a 4 x 4 inch plywood piece on which a straw sized dowel rod about 6 inches high is placed.

Cut out sugar cookies in graduated star sizes, the largest not bigger than 4 x 4 inches. Next layer of 'branches' is a slightly smaller star, next is smaller and finish with two of the littlest stars. Poke a hole in the middle of each star, hole is bigger than the dowel diameter. Bake and decorate.

Some decorators use royal icing, some sprinkles, some both, let your imagination go wild as you decorate each branch/layer of the tree.

Stack the layers with gum drop separators/ if the little gum drops use three around the dowel, if the big ones you might be able to put the dowel through it. Sometimes I have used gummy lifesavers, two per layer.

The star on top, sandwich on each side of the dowel standing up, not horizontal layer. Use royal icing to glue it to the dowel and each other.
